I started to get the feeling that we did lack something when jenas wasn't playing, until he did play, then last year when he wasn't playing I realised we don't need to have him playing in order to miss what I thought he provided when he actually didn't. :cautious:

We do lack something when Jenas isn't playing. Quite a lot actually...I'll start off with dread, fear, Tourettes, Facepalm, a butt of all jokes, a village idiot...

Please god I hope he gets nowhere near our first team this season.

We're going to differ here, a significant number of you thought HR was 'limited' etc. and he was holding us back with his tactical naivety/twitch/media soundbites./insert other common accusation here.

I think the only thing holding us back was the club's reluctance to rejuvenate the squad, by selling failed gambles and taking some new ones...and when you look at what we have done, it's been more about profit than improvement IMO.

Here we are some time later, Gio, Jenas, Bentley, Bassong all still here and the striker we've been wanting for a long time (it wasn't Ade by the way) is still not here.

Failure to prepare last season cost us, possibly cost us that mythical CL place as much as any of the usual results you're sure to mention, which meant we missed out on all that lovely money and another adventure. Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen to strengthen in January? Yeah ok.

Time will tell, but this is over familiar now. Would just Ade coming in make you all happy? Would DL still be the fucking Don if that's all we do?

Yeah, it was. Pretty much the number 1 line-leading striker we are capable of getting at the moment. I can't think of a better one that we could afford and would want to come to us. Can you?

Oh and as for missing out last season, whether that was Levy or Redknapp's fault etc. I'm pretty sure if we hadn't played 4-4-2 against the scum away and then again disastrously at home against Norwich (after which Redknapp said "some people think 4-4-2 suits us but I don't" - why the feck did you play it then?!) we'd have been in third place. Or maybe if he hadn't taken VDV off and put Parker on with 20 minutes to go away against a God-awful Villa side when we desperately needed a goal.

I for one was fed up of being told I'd never had it so good and I should shut my stupid supporter mouth and realise we're a rubbish little club really and how can you compete against Norwich and we dominated everyone and we're just unlucky and we didn't let a 13-point lead slip honest guv etc etc etc...

Well I think Verts is a world class CH, I think Ade is a world class Striker as for Sig im sure it is too early to call but to me from what I have seen I think he will be WC so 2 x WC and one future world class player that better for you?

He lacks the technical skills to play in a possession-based team and so will always be a weak link in the middle of the park.

It would be a sad day indeed if Jenas ever plays a competitive match for us again.

Your definition of world class obviously differs from my own.

CH? Cargo holder? Peoples republic of China (including Tibet)? Cloud Height? Or, my favourite, Chartered Herbalist?

I was happy with the USUAL SUSPECTS but the EXCEPT JENAS part has made me sad!!! How many lives does this guy have!! we must be all blind and missing something over these years? maybe he tempts all new managers into keeping him by giving them a go on his missus? this is indeed devilry of the highest order.

Or it could be that there is interest in all of the usual suspects except jenas!
I can't imagine AVB would be desperate to hang on to him - he didn't exactly set the world alight in the preseason friendlies...

I can't see how anyone can know whether Verts is worldclass yet, he hasn't kicked a ball in the Premier League, who knows how he will adjust.

Is whether you have kicked a ball in the Premier League the benchmark for World Class these days then?

hahahaha "INCREDIBLE WORLD CLASS SIGNING IMMINENT" ..... followed by 15 minutes about Chris Armstrong's herniated big toe operation, and then the one sentence Spurs have failed in a bid to sign Ronaldinho..... Them were the days!

That Lionel Messi is shit until he's played in the Premier League. Didn't you know that?
The elitist bullshit churned out by the british media and a lot of british fans to be fair about the premier league is laughable. The whole "not physical enough for the prem" line is just so fucking obtuse and arrogant it... Oh shit this isn't about ITK is it. Oops.

Yes 3 world class players in one window for very little money (in todays terms) would be excellent business.

Could it be even better? Yes of course. We could sign an extra striker, we could get rid of all the dead wood, effectively swap Modric for Moutinho.

but

All in all those 3 coming in whilst keeping all our other "great" players would make me real happy.

As much as Ade, Verts and Gylfi and top signings, you can't say any of them are world class.

Verts certainly has the potential to be, but until they've delivered season after season at the highest level then they can, in no way be described as 'world class' yet.
