Can't shake the suspicion we might be in for Loic Remy/Patrick Emery Aubmeyang to reinforce our striking options, as well as a wide player like Willian to challenge Lennon and Bale for their posiitons...and also a RB. We stopped collecting them for fun?
We're more in need of an AM than anything else right now though. Preferably one that can cover one or both of the wings.

Can see why we were in for Willian, my vote goes for Felipe Anderson as he's cheap(ish) and could be a real star.

Very good player, won't get much playing time at City though.

I agree. I don't know if Willian is reasonable anymore. It really just depends if those rumors of Man City/Chelsea being interested are true. However, like you mentioned, Felipe Anderson is a very good young player who would be a fraction of the price. Another name is Adam Maher from AZ Alkmaar that could be another potentially good fit as his is young, can play on the wings, as a central midfielder, or as an attacking midfielder.

i've watched both willian and eriksen probably 6/7 times now. willian has been very impressive, he's quick, the ball seems to stick to his feet, moves around the front 3 positions fluidly and the one thing that surprised me about him is that he works pretty hard off the ball, usually with these "types" of players they'll lose it and stroll back but hard work off the ball sems to have been drilled into him and the rest of the shakhtar players. the 4 goals he has in the cl this season have all been taken very well.

eriksen on the otherhand was practically invisible for denmark at the euros, for ajax he's been a little livelier but i haven't seen much evidence for the hype he's been getting over the past couple of years, it is a very small sample size though so i could well have just caught him on off days. he reminds me a little of sigurdsson.

I believe a three man offense of Bale-Ade-Willian could really wreck havoc on teams. Very unpredictable and fluid with the players swapping places. Could be an extremely frustrating front three for the defenders. With another good passer in midfield together with Dembele and Sandro we'd be very scary.

This is exactly what my posts have alluded to - however one poster seems to think signing this level of player won't happen because we've only spent on one occasion in January. o_O

Bale - Ade - Willian

Dembele - Parker - Isco/Moutinho

That's a well balanced and excellent team.

Would be nice if we could afford him in Jan, even if it means pushing the boat out a bit. I don't think he'll be interested in Chelsea and even City may be a step further than he wants right now. He clearly is keen to hook up with AVB and vice versa and that might just sway his opinion, especially if we can keep our current league position for a few more weeks.

He is probably right. The problem is that Shaktar don't need the money. So they can set his fee at anything they like. They've also qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League so won't want to lose one of there key players.

:)

I love Sandro - I really do, but I think people underestimate Parker. He keeps the ball better and is an excellent tackler as well.

I've noticed when we're under pressure Sandro has the habit of giving the ball away too easily. I think Scotty wouldn't and therefore relieve some pressure.

But having Sandro as a backup/rotation option is the best person I can imagine having.

Debate worthy in itself really.

Granted, if the selling club don't want to sell that is a different matter, but we would spend if the circumstances were right. The previous post proposed that we simply wouldn't spend because of our tendency not to in previous Jan windows - which is what I disagree with.

Not sure i could ever agree with that really. Sandro has on occasion given the ball away this season, however given some our poor performances i don't think we can be harsh on him for it. In addition he has been our stand out player in several games and offers far more than Parker, who whilst also an excellent player, is untested in an AVB style formation and also has been out for so long that i don't think we can put him in for an auto-start without seeing him play first.

I would happily go with Sandro first choice and Parker second.

Are people expecting us to spend in January? Its fair to say that last January we were in with a shot of the title, laugh at me you may, but we had broken clear along with the 2 Manc clubs and to be honest the powers that be didnt act in the transfer market for whatever reason - apart from an 11th hour double panic buy of Saha and Nelson, im not getting my hopes up on anyone of note coming in this January.

Last Jan there was uncertainty around Redknapp though. You can look at the first two windows that both Redknapp and Ramos had and see that we spent in both.

Plus with the Modric money still mostly there, i would hope for at least half of it to be available in Jan for a transfer + any sales we make.

Fair comment, forgot about the Modders funds.

I'm sure this has been explained many times but Demba Ba will never happen due to his dodgy knee. His career could end at any minute. We won't be able to get insurance on him so I doubt Levy will even consider the deal.

And really not what we need considering the formation preferred by AVB.
