It would be nice if the club just made it clear to all of us fans what kind of financial reality we are in. If we can't afford these players, why do we keep going in for them? The board said the new stadium wouldn't get in the way of player acquisition, but clearly it is. A&C's point that we had the money for Moutinho and now we don't is the one that kills me! It is the same with the late Leandro bid as well, if we were willing to spend the money in the summer, and even at the end of the window, why not try and do it earlier in January? I know we all talk about Levy time, but at what cost? Yesterday must have been a hoot to watch as an outsider, but as a Spurs fan it is eminently depressing. I know when I'm at the Lane next every single fan around me will complain about the lack of a new striker, and when we lose or draw games we should get wins in, that will be to blame. We've all seen it, we all know what the problems are, the manager does as well, so why are the board risking this? So frustrating.

for those saying Liverpool only got Sturridge are forgetting Coutiniho

I hope i am wrong but Liverpool are gathering momentum and are a serious threat for the top 4 IMHO

Holtby looks promising and we should all be positive about that, whilst just holding back on the champagne celebrations until he has more game time.

But the issue is sticking ball in net.

Defoe - 10 goals
Bale - 10 Goals
Adebayour - 2 goals
Dempsey - 5 Goals
Lennon - 3 Goals
Caulker - 2 Goals

Who are we trusting to get the goals... for me, it's currently Bale, but he can get shut down if a team concentrates on him (a la United) and Defoe has not scored in a while and when he does it is usually in gluts rather than consistently.

So... are we going for goals from the side? Then god forbid Bale gets injured... if the concept is to play through the striker, then we should have gotten another one in.

BUT... time will tell. i am all for not splashing cash on players we are lumbered with as deadwood a year later, so you can't always have it both ways.

What do you mean, 'hoodwinked'? Did I sleep through the bit where the Dear Leader made a public personal promise to sign a striker, whatever the cost?

You were obviously sleeping if you cant notice we need a striker im sure mr levy is happy today as he has saved us money but at what cost but still your happy thats the main thing

I'll give you Negredo and maybe Diame but I don't think Hooper Belhanda or even Sneijder (fitness reasons) would get more than 30 minutes for a month. Especially with the earning your spots with AVB. Holtby is likely to be thrown in there as a necessity then the others.

We are definitely more flexible with Holtby then any other option out there. We can slot him right into the 2 or 3 in the 4-2-3-1. Can play in the 3 in the 4-3-3. 4-4-2 can play and cover wing atleast as well as Siggy can.

And I just don't think there's anyway Bale is leaving. Madrid isn't paying 40m for a backup or a guy who can take minutes away from Ronaldo. The guy is in battle with Messi for Calendar Goals year in year out he won't ever rest unless he's injured. Bale's not consistent enough from the right to move there yet. Marcelo does a fine job at LB and Bale won't switch back to LB he already looks disinterested in defense half the time already. Don't think Barca is in for him and he's not moving to any other team unless it's City United Madrid or Barca.

Agree, especially with Ronaldo saying he will see out contract until 2015.
I wonder if the team see Holtby as a viable "alternative" to Moutinho, or if we might try again in the summer?! But I think Summer will likely be all about a striker and did we hear earlier in TW a new CB?!

Thank you Peter Odemwingie for the comedy act that provided some much-needed light relief on a very tense evening.

I feel LD was another Moutinho, nothing more than a PR stunt, same with Levy's wheel barrow of money and a bid for Aguero. I don't want Levy out but his transfer methods at times (I mean the big players and media spin) are completely ridiculous and we always seem to be left short. We won't kick on and really improve due to our financial limits and I won't be surprised if we don't make top 4. Holtby looks like a great signing though...going only by 20 mins :cat:

If it was a 'PR stunt' it wasn't a terribly successful one, was it?

It was the window where Levy raised the white flag

With someone to put the ball in the net we could have near enough been certain of 4th place, CL and £40m in the bank but now instead we have a mountain to climb to retain 4th, a miracle infact

Liverpool are scoring goals like they are going out of fashion
Arsenal likewise
Everton are continually snapping at our heels

We have to rely next 4 months on a cripple and a guy who has had questionable attitude all season, both of which are scoring at a rate of 1 goal per 30 shots, hopeless situation

We could have bought a 15-20m striker out of the CL revenue we would get for 4th, if by some chance we didn't get 4th we would have still had an asset with resale value

Levy had CL in his sights and lost his bottle when he could have taken us over the line now we are going to pay the price

I can't take all the negative vibes, it's not like we've sold superjan or bale or lloris - all our best players.

no doubt it will be the same in match threads for the whole month, whinge moan cry - so am off for a while. See you all in March chaps.

Really think a few people need to look at themselves and maybe even get medical help . Unbelievable stuff by some that was not even reasoned, thought through or with any type of foundation and insider knowledge. If some of those making these ITK comments would like to shed some light on the inner workings of the club then I'm sure the mods would love to hear from them ;) .

I am quite pissed off about the Jenas comments tbh - I hope the guy does well and resurrects his career at Loftus Road. I've never thought he didn't try his best for us. Don't like the Bentley stuff either - he is a Spurs player and I will support him whole heartedly if he pulls on a Spurs shirt again - I'd love it if he could turn around his career also, hopefully with us if he is allowed.

Lastly thanks to Rob, A&C and all the others for keeping this running. Creaked a little, but like all good ones managed to sail on through the teeth of it all! Cheers! (y)

The frustrating thing is that when Defoe is on form and being fed the ball, he's on fire and finds the back of the net very easily. The team has to give him the opportunities he needs and we have to hope he finds some form again very soon. He has many flaws and can be selfish and stupid with his positioning (he's the offside king) but he is there to score goals and that's what we need from him.

I would have loved us to have bought a goalscoring machine but the reality is we have to make the best of what we have.

I believe "Hotboy" Holtby could prove to be a real asset and a great feeder of the ball for Defoe and Adebayor.

Another window goes and surprise suprise, the transfer record in still stands at £16.5m for Luka, now some 7 windows and more than 4 years later.

Has the manager really been backed in his first season? It doesn't really look like it, does it?

Spot on cos their ambitious I think they will take it as well good luck when you have people who get deals done.
But for us we just have to wait and see what the future brings maybe an oil baron will take us on then we will compete for now we just stick with what we have

Like a lot of people, my expectations for the rest of the season to a certain extent hinged on getting a fresh striker in over January. It didn't happen, so i'm hoping we can get 4th rather than thinking it was more than likely and that we could possibly even catch Chelsea. Good news with getting Jenas and Gomes a move, if the clubs they wen't to are paying toward wages then basically Holtbys wages and transfer fee/signing on fee are covered. So we actually did get him for free in the end to an extent.

The one thing that worries me is that we put too much hope in to Holtby to be our new Rafa VdV. He looks like a great player but he probably isn't the anwser yet, he's at a very different stage of his career that Rafa was when he joined. Brilliant if he hits the ground running and chips in with loads of assisits and goals, but let not put too much pressure on him because he was our only signing of the window. He's still a kid learning his trade in a new league.

We have a good team already. Hopefully Adebayor will come back with his shooting boots on.

Holtby is a very good addition.

And it's a miracle that Jenas has finally gone!

Shame about an additional striker, but it's good they didn't just throw money at a stop gap solution.

If holtby had 3 years on his contract then surely the German u21 captain would be worth about 15m. I know it's hypothetical but if this would be the case then everyone would be satisfied with the window.

We didn't get a striker but we obviously don't have the money to buy a striker that will improve our squad.

I don't think one person on sc has the slightest fucking clue about the finances at spurs but yet they kick the shit out of their living rooms because Daniel won't just hand 20m like he's buying a pint of milk. I really don't understand people questioning his ambition. The business model/transfer policy at spurs is brilliant, you only have to look at some of the players that we have witnessed at spurs over recent years due to the fact we bought them at the right time and right price. They help enhance the team and if they become stars like berba, modric and bale then we sell at a massive profit and reinvest whilst at the same time putting our club in the spotlight and enhancing our reputation and making future stars like holtby and sig etc want to join us. Before levy was in charge I can't remember any rival fan ever complementing my team yet now in a lot of fans minds we are an exciting club and this in my opinion is due to levys shrewdness in the transfer market.

Chin up we are doing well and we have Gareth motherfucking bale.

If Defoe recovers from his form/gets over his injury we'll be fine
If Adebayor comes back from ACoN injury free and motivated we'll be fine
If Bale stays fit we'll be fine
If Lennon stays fit we'll be fine
If Dembele stays fit we'll be fine
If Parker stays fit we'll be fine.

That's a lot of 'ifs'. All it takes is an injury to one of those players and we are suddenly not fine. It's asking a lot to go the remainder of the season without giving these players a rest. However we can't give them a rest because the backups are not good enough - Hud, Livermore, Obika et al. I'm sorry, but they are just not good enough. Personally I can't see us getting top 4. Our squad still lacks depth, and will be seriously exposed with an injury to one of those players above.

Most of our top 4 rivals do not have an abundance of talent in the backup positions but at least they have options. Not sure we do.

We have been hoodwinked yet again by our chairman same ploy 2 windows running, I feel very sorry for avb talked into a job and as yet not supported by his boss he must feel let down.

I hope he stays with us for next season but can understand if he chooses to walk away and find a club that spends money to support his ideas etc.

I trust mr levy is still up counting all the money saved I hope he is well, I would imagine that some on here will give me neg rep but today I dont care as so fucking pissed off I can see 4th spot going now a real opportunity missed

People who think that levy is mugging AVB off need to realise something....AVB is a very intelligent man, when he took the spurs job,he knew exactly what he was walking into,he knew we don't have the sort of money that chelshit and citeh do,and he knew that levy is not the sort of chairman to go and throw 20 million at a striker who's only ever played in south America.
It's not like the clubs around us have strengthened,a new left back is not gonna save the scums season, while we have picked up a QUALITY player in Lewis Holtby for next to nothing(relatively speaking)

What I do know is that pre Levy we were mediocre.....since he's been at the helm there has been a constant progression, year after year ,to the point where we are now competing to get in the CL year after year, which has been achieved by being bloody good at running a football club, both on and off the pitch.....but that's still not enough for some spoilt little shits, convinced that Levys currently swimming in pool of £50 notes that he saved by not buying moutinho,Leandro, etc last night.
So if last nights lack of activity has left you feeling pissed off, look at our league finishing positions 10 years prior to enic, and since......
