I thought some of the play in and around the midfield was pretty decent tonight, particularly Holtby and Carroll when he came on. The problem, as you say, is the wide atttackers. Siggy is too laboured and needs to be played centrally or from the bench. Dempsey is a nuisance who likes to win freekicks but just doesnt cut it in AVB's style of play.
I personally dont think we would have won it, and to get this far has still been valuable experience.

Adebayors runup was a joke, why was he running on the spot, not a natural striker more someone to play behind a target man, never in the box and woeful finisher at time.

I know Friedel can't be blamed per se but he made it easy for Basel. They knew that all they needed to do was get it on target and he wasn't getting near it. Look at the winning one. He just strolled up, waiting for Friedel to sell himself and then tapped it in the middle.

Spot on. We've been at our best this season when we've stretched teams, and with Bale playing in the middle we have one wide man in the squad.

Having an OAP between the sticks for these two important games was always a risk and unfortunately 2nd goal and his lack of mobility for penalties was a factor in us going out tonight.

I dont think goal bonuses apply for penalty shoot outs. So no harm done. Why not have a little smile, nothing extra would have come of scoring it.

The fact that they even came back into the game was down to that mucking about by Dembele after we scored the first.
Adebayor can't pass - even a 5 yard straight line pass- but TBH neither can the whole squad. The passing game Basel showed tonight should be made into a training DVD.
I haven't seen us win a penalty-shootout (tonight, PSV, Man Utd in the final of the LC). The second the ref blew his whistle deep down I knew it was over.
SOOOOOOO close, SOOOOOOOO effing disappointed. And you just know that Chelski are gonna win it.

So extremely disappointing. Did Ade manage to hold up the ball or win a 50/50 or a run even once? So tired of him, do not want to see him in a spurs shirt ever again, rather see whatever kid from the academy. And why on earth is Friedel playing, is this a clause in his contract? We have one of the best keepers in the world in Lloris and a tricky away game in the qf of a cup that supposedly our manager want to win so why the f..k is he playing a fossil instead of the one that would have saved at least one of their two goals and maybe even a penalty.

Fuck me. We were the poorer team over both legs. Penalties is a difficult situation. Don't blame Hudd or Ade for not scoring. Friedel could not do anything with their penalties. We played with 10 men for ages. Verts escapes criticism though I guess??? Good effort but we weren't good enough.
