Bale new contract is meaningless. We already knew he was staying, so it's just an extra operating expense. And I think we all know that it won't stop him leaving next summer.

It's not bad news, but it's David Brent good news rather than actual good news.

Is the whole of the internet playing some ultra elaborate sick joke on me, or have we basically all but signed Jedvaj and Halilovic, had Paulinho confirmed, pretty much secured Villa and finalised new Bale contract in the past 24 hours ?

Under Levy's new modus operandi, I'm expecting a takeover bid accepted by 3am and the new stadium to be built and finished by the time I wake up tomorrow.

Not really. I'm sure there's a very good chance of him leaving next summer. In fact I'm certain of it. But I didn't think we had a hope in hell of keeping him after missing out on the top 4.

It's going to feel so good starting the season with the best player in the Premiership in our team, and one of the best in the world. How is that not good news?

Do you mind if I finish your half empty glass. I want to save my half full one for later. Ta.

I think it's some collective hallucination. The truth is that Ricky Villa's wife was on holiday in Croatia and just got a Brazilian. Unfortunately it's all been lost in translation.

Couldn't disagree more. Bale signing a new contract is a massive statement of intent.

There is a significant meaning in a new contract. It means he's not leaving this summer and we as fans don't need to worry, players coming in know he will be here for the year and the press actually have to give it up. Sure he may leave next summer, but I think many of us fear this summer, despite the things we hear.

Bale signing would just be another massive statement of intent for everyone involved with or potentially involved with the club.

It also protects our investment, protects any transfer fee & rewards a player for having about as good a season as anyone has had in a Spurs shirt for many, many years.

I genuinely think we've a chance of challenging all over next season & the better we do, the better our long term prospects for keeping Bale further and ultimately Villas Boas further, plus attracting the best players, the best young players, earning more income, growing as a club, succeeding in our targets, kicking ass etc etc.

Agree, even if it just gives the media a week off before they come up with stories like "oh btdub's, there's a clause that says if Spurs Don't make Bale bangers and mash before every game, then he can go to Atletico Mineiro for a bucket of chum in January"

So we should be able to breath until January.

It certainly could keep him around next summer IF we are in the CL and continuing to improve as a club. I've no illusions that Bale won't leave eventually, but I don't see him in a massive hurry to go if 1. he can compete at the top level and 2. he's getting paid what he deserves, and we've just guaranteed the latter. Even Madrid won't be offering him much more than 170k/wk.

If bale has signed that contract, i wouldnt be so sure about him leaving next season either!
Settled, good money... As long as team perform and we get top 4 he could well stay and Levy wont be in a rush to sell as new contract should mean more years to boot.

If we dont get top 4 then you would have to let him go jf he wanted, but i do see this as potentially very food news.
