The core of the team is still there though and realistically we're looking at 3 or 4 changes to our first team. A new striker, Paulinho in centre mid, a new left back and if Lennon isn't deemed good enough for the other wide forward spot a player to start there. Most of the bench will still be the same too, so I can't see it being that much disharmony to the team.

As for squad depth - we only lacked that in wide options, but with Bale, Lennon, Townsend returning and a new wide forward we should be sorted (also Siggy and, at a stretch Holtby, can play there to some extent). Left back was also a big question mark but Rose is returning so hopefully he'll be involved as well as another left back coming in. I felt we weren't lacking in squad depth in the centre of midfield, but more a lack of quality as Huddlestone and Parker aren't up to the task, IMO.

er...........what about strikers??

I'm not sold completely on Bernard but a creative midfielder should certainly be a priority. We missed that so badly last season.
I am. Get me Bernard.

He is creative and young - see the difference he made coming on in the semi against Italy. He is over priced and seems to favour Porto - but if we have a core of Brazilian players, we may seem more attractive and hopefully Agent Sandro can put in a word for us!

As far as creative midfielders, with Sandro/Paulinho/Dembele and then Bale/Villa/a.n.other (Lennon/Ade/Soldado) I'm not sure where one would fit in! We have Holtby/Siggy who can do a job and also Falque and Carroll who both should progress further this season... Not looking too shabby, come to think of it.

All those players out does make the squad look thin.

And it will look a whole lot thinner if Hudd's one of the ones to leave.

Anyone remember the bloke in the Park Lane who used to toss chocolate digestives behind the goal to tempt Hudd to shoot a few seasons ago?

People wanting a new cm but tbh imo that's not priority. I think Holtby has creative ability and so too Tommy Carroll who should be given a chance next year- he's clearly a talent and we shouldn't waste him otherwise he'll just fade like Livermore. Add to those we have Dembele, Sandro, Paulinho, Sig, Demps (if needs be), and atm we still have SP, Hudd and Livermore. Get Paulinho settled, get rid of some crap, bring in Villa ASAP, work out whether or not Rose is suitable for first chice LB or not and if not bring in another, get the Croats in before Chelsea do us, preferably another striker and then we can focus on positions we might want to add in if we still have time and funds. Some say a creative CM, some say another CB and others want a better GK. TBH I'd be more than happy with Villa,Paulinho,Two Croats, New LB/Rose stepping up and Soldado (if the link is true) but we all have different opinions. Just remember, it's only early days- we missed out on CL last year, don't have someone like Modric to sell and are in progress of a massive stadium and just broke our transfer record so don't be too greedy! To be fair, if his IQ was as high as his BMI, he'd be able to teach Stephen Hawking a thing or two

Thanks and best wishes

A&C's cock

Even if it's not, Steven Hawking would probably be interested in studying Hudd's gravitational field. ;)

A little worrying that Swansea stoke villa and co are signing all these young stars from Europe for a couple of million. Wonder why we aren't

Because if we did so, many of us here will say that we're underwhelmed.

Will everyone please shut up with the Hudd jokes! They are hardly true and most of all they are hardly funny! Please stop clogging this thread with crap before A&C gets his dildo out on those who don't abide and locks the thread. Don't mean to moan but let's get back on topic! Thank you!

The 11 can't include youths out on loan etc, imo. We probably send out more than 11 of them on loan as it is, so the 11 must be senior players or young ones that are in the first team squad.

Gallas and Bentley as 2
The other nine will be a mix of players we set want to sell and ones that we will sell if we can get a good price on and buy someone better.

A pool of - Gallas, Bentley, Defoe, Dempsey, Parker, Huddlestone, Naughton, Livermore, Ekotto, and any two others seems like it adds up in terms of who we would be willing to move on for various reasons.

Doesn't mean we will of course.

But if they did all leave we would see Paulinho, Villa, another good striker, a LB, and a 1 or 2 other shrewd buys.

11 out.
5-6 in.
Rose, Townsend, Smith into the squad.

It could actually be feasible and would make our squad a further 2-3 players leaner but with increased quality and depth

Spud. You have a perfectly valid argument that people shouldn't call Tom fat. That's cool.

But you're method isn't helping you.

You can't imply that people are gay-bashers and racists as part of your argument. That is actually worse than somebody calling Huddlestone fat. And people will meet your aggression with equal measure and this will then become some form of a SC meme if you will, like Berol or Dave. People will take the Huddlestone is fat joke to another level. You hurt your chances with such statements and venom. So just edit it. Reel it in a bit and stay on point. With the right voice, you can win over most of the people here. But you can't win any argument with that much vinegar.

Do so and I'll delete my post. You have the winning argument at the end of the day.

When we are continue like this, are we able to field enough english players in the squad?

'English' or homegrown players remaining would be Dawson, Walker, Rose, Smith, Caulker, Carroll, Lennon, Bale, Townsend, Sigurdsson. That would be sufficient in a squad of 25 even if all five of Huddlestone, Parker, Naughton, Defoe and Livermore leave.

A&C is hardly going to do that when he's joining in the 'fun'

So the ITK suggests 11 out.
Gallas, Bentley and Bostock gone.
8 remaining. I can think of 12 at risk.
Gomes, Naughton/Smith, Ekotto?, Khumolo, Hudd, Parker, Livermore?, Mason, Dempsey, Falque?, Ade?, Defoe?

That would still leave us...
Lloris, Friedel, Archer
Walker, Naughton/Smith
Ekotto?, Rose.
Kaboul, Dawson.
Vertonghen, Caulker.
Sandro, Livermore?, Luongo.
Paulinho, Sigurdsson.
Dembele, Holtby, Carroll.
Bale, Lennon
Ade?, Defoe?
Villa, Townsend.

Then throw in the mooted 4-5 signings and we are laughing. A LB if Ekotto does go, potentially another CM if Livermore is loaned, maybe another winger, another striker.
Depends if the 4-5 signings includes the Croatian boys.
Theoretically a LB, Emre Can, Rebic and Soldado/Damaio?

Surely Halilovic is instead of Bernard?

There's no way we'd pay £10m+ for two very similar teenagers. I know Bernard is a year or two older/more established, but that's why he's £10m more.

Your critique of my methodology is doubtless well-meaning, but in making it you assume that I wish to be popular and in doing so must be circumspect in what I write. I couldn't actually give a fuck what those people think of me and have no wish to be nice to people who consider it to be 'cool' or funny to aim gratuitous insults at those who they judge to be in some way inferior to them.

If what I have written has upset some and goaded others into confirming themselves to be twats, then so be it. Sometimes my level of tolerance of ego-driven fools and their ignorant 'phobic' comments is exceeded.
