I'm going for a drink, this has me shaking with rage!

Levy's intransigence is all over this one! The crown of astute businessman is well and truly slipping

Would we have matched that transfer figure? I'm sure we would.

So did Villa prefer to go and play for Atletico Madrid? Probably.

I imagine this would've been decided more on sell on value (or lack thereof), length of contract & wages - even if two out of them three worked out, we all know what Levy is like and it wouldn't shock me one bit if he balked at some demand or another and Atl. stepped straight in with a "we'll do that".

Fair play to them - sucks to be us, but it's a long way til the end of the window.

Also, consider JD is in a lot of the promo stuff, yet Manu isn't - according to the ITK we have so far, it should surely be the other way around?

What I was told: Barca wanted €12m from us. Just because they sold him to Atletico for less doesn't mean we could have bought him for that

The Atleti deal includes 50% of transfer rights staying with Barca, but you have to wonder what that actually equates to for a player like Villa. He's not going to get sold for £10m next season.

Perhaps Villa just wanted Champions League. To get over this, I will be re-reading those articles stating Villa was past it and agree rather than refuse to believe them.

FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of David Villa.
The deal is set to bring Barça a maximum of 5.1 million Euros, with 2.1 due this season, 2 more if Villa stays at Atletico next year and another million should he be at the Madrid club the season after. Barça also reserve the right to 50% of any sell on fee in the future.
Villa, who joined Barça in the summer of 2010, has played 119 times for the Club, scoring 48 goals: 33 in the Spanish League, 8 in the Champions League, 6 in the Spanish Cup and 1 in the Spanish Super Cup.
One of Villa’s first games with his new club could be against Barça in this season’s Spanish Super Cup between last season’s league and cup winners.

Must have someone lined up. Two seasons straight with two senior strikers would be ridiculous.

Oh well. Atletico Madrid offers CL and staying in Spain for Villa. Not really shocking when we got ITK stating Villa wasn't that interested due to lack of CL.
