Perhaps the reason that we apparently bid so little is the fact that we were getting no additional extras with Villa (sponsorships etc). I believe that the club saw him as a puller for interest in the club from overseas & was therefore worth a punt for a 31 year old who has recently recovered from a very serious injury.

Take those away and any deal doesn't look quite as tasty from a club point of view. If we had to choose between a deal for Villa or a deal for the 2 Croatians, I'd take the Croatians any day of the week. Let's make our own world recognised superstars than buying some piece of sirloin that's been sitting in the cabinet for the last month! Fresh meat will be more mouthwatering and far, far tastier! If this thread were 100 pages by the end of yesterday he would have been a spurs player today. :-D

I heard Villa was in London this morning just about to sign the contract, then he saw our new kit and said "fuck that, I'm off".

After all the disappointment over the years, we must or bloody well should have at least 2 or 3 backup plans up front. Bony would be a cracking signing IMO, just haven't seen any sort of link to him. Even in the unlikely event Adebayor comes good again we still do not have enough quality to get us into that top 4. We absolutely must bring a forward in.

were we ever really, really in the race? neither nor clubs, nor player, nor players agent confirmed anything ever..

Although the AM transfer fee seems low. Villa supposedly had a clause in his contract at Barca which meant his wages in the final year of his contract would almost double. I doubt that Villa would have been prepared to give this up so I would guess that AM have agreed to pick up this additional cost (approx €7m) in addition to the transfer fee. The whole package is therefore potentially higher than advertised..

Very disappointed though :bigtears:

Right, get his ugly face off the transfer rumours banner. I loved him until about 40 minutes ago...

The transfer fee is becoming more and more ridicoulos:

Barcelona gets 2.1m€ now
If Villa stays 2 years: another 2m€
If Villa stays 3 years: another 1m€

+50% sell on money

What the hell?..

Disappointed but we just move on. I'm going to assume Baldini knows of a few amazing strikers and will bring a couple in for us.

I'm going to assume its barca playing games with Levy.

I refuse to give in, especially when he has made it clear he wants to be a spurs player

ROBinBKK had heard the exact opposite though. That he is not keen because we don't have CL footy to offer.

Looks like he made the choice to stay in Spain, that's probably it tbh - wouldn't look too much more into it than that.
