This more than anything else is why I'm optimistic that we'll have a large net spend this window. If the club feels there's a realistic chance that they'll be getting in the 60-80m range for Bale when he is sold, then we can afford to splash the cash now. It's a risky move but I don't see any other way for us to keep pace with our top four rivals, who will all be spending big this summer.

You can't be a proper title contender until you have proper quality back-up for each position to compensate for injuries and ware and tear.

If we can look at our team at the end of the window and say, 'well if that key player gets injured then we have so and so to step in and properly fill the gap', then we can start to talk in those terms.

The key to a campaign run is solid back-up!

Chelsea, manure, shitty will have that which is why they'll be the main three in the mix again.

Can't see us getting Bernard - Too hyped and expensive... Chandli would fit with the current expenditure (50m gross on Paulino, Benteke etc.). If when Villa was on we were gonna do 17m plus on the young Croats it makes sense.

Please god Benteke aint Bent v1.02....

I will not for a second start expecting to win the league. But if we don't try whats the point. Why bother spending 40-50m on players? To challenge for 4th? That's them lots down the roads motivation.

This year is our best chance since 91. Lets go for it.

Benteke isn't going to be the man to make up the nineteen points that we finished behind Man Ure AFTER a record points haul season. He could be the man who helps to get us another nine or ten though. I'd expect at least fourth given the money that Levy is spending so far (assuming Benteke is nailed on) but anything better would be a huge, huge bonus to us.
