If we can't afford another top quality forward, I would suggest buying a workaholic forward to stretch and harry defences and create more space for Bale. We know Bale can score 30 league goals next year, so we only need other forwards (in a 433) to chip in with 10 goals each. Someone like Shane Long, whilst not being a great goalscorer, has real pace, and works like a Trojan, in a way we could never see Defoe and Ade do. Whilst not being a super player, his attributes could bring the best out of others and give the team balance.

But what happens if Bale gets injured mate? I know exactly what you mean but surely we can't put all our eggs in one basket? I think we need more quality in advanced areas to support Bale, but also to take the load off as well. We need more attacking intent in addition to Bale as opposed to just providing the platform for Bale to do his business.

I'm as frustrated as the next man mate, but you want us to pay more for for strikers that "might" fit or are a patch up job, or wait for the deal to be right on all fronts? It seems to me that us breaking our transfer record this month, shows that we're going to invest a bit of cash in order to help take us to where we could be (CL places etc)...

So we didn't do it in Jan, or the Jan before that - but we have backed former managers with players - Harry spent bucketloads on bringing JD and RK back to the club amongst others. Granted using the word "presumably" is not the most secure in the following sentence, but I'll use it anyhow; presumably that cash could have been spent on other strikers. We also paid over and above on wages to secure Ade, whilst at the same time getting a £25m striker for a fifth of the cover charge.

Against the oil rich clubs, and those financed by their CL adventures (you know who I mean) we need to spend clever, not willy nilly.

If we didn't go all guns blazing for Villa, tho I think he was swayed by remaining in Spain more than anything else, or Benteke - it's because we have other options that are considered better than those players. Without a shadow of doubt. In my onion, o'course. (y)

Grey Fox is itk, he says there's a list. We have no reason to disbelieve.

We can't get him anyway. Swansea signed him...

The problem for me with that mate is we have no idea how Adebayor is going to perform this season. AVB is the only one who is in a position to gauge that - and even he might not be confident. I know he's looked good in training etc

You can bet your bottom buck if we go with what we have and are positive about Adebayor and he has a similar season to last this place will erupt.

I think we need another forward in, a quality one as well. Not easy granted, but its needed if we are serious about meaning business this season - and showing ambition to Bale. We've talked the talk, we've got to walk the walk.

Even if Adebayor was doing well this season and he got injured again, we can't rely on Defoe for a pro longed period. Have loved the little fella for years but we've evolved - as a team we are simply well ahead of what Defoe brings to the table.

Personally I think we need another quality forward in on top of Adebayor - as we can't rely on his consistency either, but he's a much better option that Defoe.

I agree I guess I'm just trying to put a better spin on it.

Still we would have the third 'youngster' who would obviously have to be up to PL standard... If we take a punt of that sort of player using Baldini's knowledge; we could be onto a real gem. We definitely need 2/3 more signings this window, to rest on one would be ludicrous.

Not saying Levy hasn't spent cash before, my point is this specific issue of strikers is ridiculous and we shouldn't be here. It's never had to be a blockbuster, we just need better than defoe and ade, just need strikers that are more effective than them.

IRT deals being 'right on all fronts'. That's just not realistic and rarely happens. Someone gets screwed usually, it's the nature of this sort of market, you just have to offset it in other places. Levy knows this and knows it well.

Seems a loyal sort? Mmm...think the fact he's never finished a season with one club and started the following season with the same club speaks volumes. This is a man who's determined to reach the top, hit his potential, then get out to pursue hobbies. Will he turn down barca? Doubtful. Will Levy turn down Barca? Likely. I for one prays he stays - his and Bales futures are inextricably linked so I'm praying they both stay and we add to the squad.

nearly made me hit the disagree button for the first time there, i think that point is totally unfair and unjust hes only had 3 years managing one of which porto come knocking so you wouldnt turn them down when your at academia or whatever they're called you dont turn them down. then he got chance to return to chelsea after winning the treble at porto then got sacked by them and now hes at us, dont think you can blame him hardly a mercenary

I just pictured an open top Bus Parade around the streets of Birmingham, with the Villa players holding Benteke aloft like a trophy.

There was a lot of talk that quite apart from the fact that AVB wanted a DoF in to help him in the general structure of the club, Levy would be taking a step away from many issues to do with the squads due to his wife's illness (she's in the States).

Another reason I find the personalised rage directed at Levy for not signing a striker we never actually said we wanted to be a bit OTT to say the least.

There was no official comment regarding the same but when have we ever? There was nothing regarding Lloris or Dempsey or anyone for that matter!!

Our striker situation has, for a fair old while been an utter shambles.

There is no disputing that.

However, we have to give Levy and Co until the end of the transfer window.

Then we can go nutts.

I reckon Benteke will have a really average season now and everyone will be proclaiming how we dodged a bullet. Ha!

Another thing that concerns me is the attitude of the supporters towards Defoe and Ade. Patience has gone completely, and I suspect vocal frustration will reach fever pitch next season.

People have had enough. The atmosphere was already hostile last season. What's it going to be like when Ade misses his twentieth sitter in a row?

First David Villa and then Aston Villa plunge the forum into a deep depression.

I'm now bracing myself for Ricky Villa to announce that he's secretly been a gooner all these years and then we can all sign the collective suicide pact.
