I'll give you my two-bobs worth on this, and will willingly tale the flak that i know will come.

Does anyone on here seriously think that Fergie or The Special One would have risked playing their stating center half's on that fucking quagmire of a pitch in HK? You could have envisaged the possibility of any of our starters getting injured. In fact i am surprised no one else did. But for the lure of the green-back AVB should have taken a stance and kept our prized assets well clear of playing those games.

We now have the comedic situation where we have no sensible pairing in the middle of our defence to start the season. A fucking masterstroke of genius from whoever decided to sell Caulker (who could have gone in January anyway). The blame for this fiasco firmly rests at the door of AVB and Levy on this one.

Flame away my beauties.

The way we played our best players in the useless Europa league, getting injured and losing fourth place, it's just a repeat of last seasons mistakes in my opinion.

Hindsight a wonderful thing right?

At the time of selling our FOURTH choice centre back wanted to play first team football - at a time when our 3 centre backs were either fit or a couple of weeks away from full fitness.

I think your making excuses in this situation. At the time we sold Caulker one of our centre backs had ligament damage ( 3 weeks could easily become longer ) and another has had an injury which seems to be potentially career threatening ( or at the very least a long term injury meaning he can't be relied on for the short term).

Whatever way you spin it letting Caulker go before we had a replacement signed is a fuck up.

We won't be signing Alderweild as JJ has said multiple times we think there are some big flaws with his technique, most notably his ability to shield a ball. They are fair comments about him. Vlad seems to be the CB we really want so lets hope we can get it done.

Have to say that he looked better when i have seen him play than the two who turned out against Monaco for us on Saturday. Given the state of of injury situation at the heart of our defence i'd sooner see an experienced drunken, Alderweild in a Spurs shirt unable to shield the ball than either of those on display yesterday.

You didn't need an hindsight to see that that pitch was an injury waiting to happen. Kabul will not make the stat of the season, and Verts was injured in a friendly that should never have gone ahead. That isn't hindsight it's stating the bleeding obvious.

No good AVB bitching about the pitch after the game, he saw the state of it before and during the game and could have taken action then.

We haven't got 8 million euros to spend on a 6 month stop gap though. We would be better off getting on the phone to Gallas and asking him if he fancied a contract until January.

Cock up yes. But I suspect that it was thought that the Romanian lad was in the bag as a replacement for Caulker.

Not sure that any of us really understand the position with Kaboul - if its as bad as you say, I think we would have bought an experienced CB already. Ditto Dawson.

If we have new concerns over Dawson and Kaboul with a possiblity of Vertonghen being out longer, I suspect CB's will be top of the list (assuming we limit our responses to RM as 'go away he's not for sale')

True, but that doesn't mean there aren't better targets out there. Fryers (hopefully) won't be anywhere near the first team in the near future and Livermore is of course a midfielder.

Catching up on this thread from last night, I think page 47 must be the best page in the history of SC.

Can't see us going in for Bernard unless we sell Bale tbh.

With all the turmoil going on at Newcastle we should go all out for Graham Carr

New strategy, Were going to buy all the opposition players that usually score against us.

Oh hey 7 year old me playing Championship Manager for the first time.

As for Federici: meh. Won't be first choice so I'm not really worried, would prefer him as 3rd choice to Gomes since I imagine Heurelho is on insane wages.

Kaboul hasn't played competitive football for a year and still hasn't featured in pre-season. If he gets fit for start of the season, according to rumours he might not, he's not just going to waltz into the back four after such a long lay off and perform like his old self. Verthongen was injured before we sold Caulker. Dawson at the time was our only fully fit CB. Other than that everything you said was true though...

I would've been slightly less pissed with the sale of Caulker had we already ensured a replacement, but that's not how our club operates it seems.

Can't really get my head around all the potential outgoings. AVB preferred MO is trying to build a squad that's close together and has a good mentality. Reports from last season spoke of a "band of brothers" mentality that also led to results as the season went on. The Spurs team of 12/13 had a great never-say-die-attitude, and made so many great comebacks.

I can't see why it would make sense to let 7-8 players go and potentially bring in something along those numbers. This isn't FIFA, group dynamics play a large part, and I'd think that the players first to get shifted this transer window would be the players that have seemingly had some issues with their overall mentality (BAE, Adebayor, Thudd) and bit parts like Livermore and Gomes.

Then I'd figure that AVB would want to add players that could add something to the groups mentality. Model professional Paulinho was signed early, something that supported my thoughts. David Villa, a proven winner and probably someone that would boost our winning mentality was strongly linked. That didn't work out, but Soldado is of the same ilk. It makes a load of sense to signed players like this, but to much shifting wont be a good thing.

Especially didn't like the Dempsey sale, he's not to smooth and no David Silva, but he puts in a shift, never gives up and has that great mentality that American athletes seem to have.

Can't be good for the group morale/mentality when so many of the players seemingly are available for transfer and doesn't know where they'll be playing when the season starts.

Yesterday I was saying that Lennon was the better all round player and was a better option.
However having seen his lack luster efforts against South China and Monaco, and Townsend's more aggressive attacking [and 2 great goals] I have to say I have had a change of heart.
Lennon can lose interest too easily.and Andros is much more of a direct goal threat.

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone :)

Hard to tell who is gay, the Julian Clary camp types are very rare

I know a guy who works the doors at clubs in Manchester, looks hard as nails, not someone to cross but been with a bloke for 7 years, macho as fuck

Will you be happy if we sign a decent CB in the next week?

A few decent finds at Newcastle and a celebrity son and people get a little carried away, care to tell me the names of many other scouts you know and where thy rate in your world scouting table?
