RE: these scouting reports. Not necessarily for players incoming is it? With the players mentioned, maybe to get an idea of them and their strengths and weeknesses so AVB can prepare against them properly? Shane Long for instance will work the channels all day, so for the CB's/FB's to be aware of long balls into the channels on the counter attack... Etc, etc...

With McCarthy/Shaw/McCartney/Ince etc if I was manager I'd have reports on as many up and coming players as possible, as well as the most regular appearing players of all our opponents.

Doubt it...one of AVBs coaching staff is our opposition scout.

It could be we scouted these players when our resources were much tighter but are now looking elsewhere as we have more cash available ? It is also possible that we scouted these players and then decided as a result of the scouts reports that they weren't good enough ?

If bale really was off I would not look like an idiot by keep saying he is not. As soon as I get a word bale is off, I will change my tune but I am convinced bale is here this season.

I find very interesting that everyone comments how we could sign this player and that player with the supposed 90 million. No we could not.

the deal would be ridiculous from madrid 20 million in the first season, 20 million second season etc. All in installements.

where as if we opened the market to bayern, psg, monaco, etc we could get a massive lump sum to do as we please with..

if your looking for a good paper independent and guardian are usually spot on for spurs.
Would we not do the same thing with signings though? We could structure signings in similar instalments knowing the incoming money from Madrid.

I would much rather keep Bale though. We need stability and the thought of Soldado and Bale together has me very excited about this season. I can see them scoring as many if not more than Berbatov and Keane together.

You didn't need an hindsight to see that that pitch was an injury waiting to happen. Kabul will not make the stat of the season, and Verts was injured in a friendly that should never have gone ahead. That isn't hindsight it's stating the bleeding obvious.

No good AVB bitching about the pitch after the game, he saw the state of it before and during the game and could have taken action then.

What action could he have taken?

Relaid the pitch?

Your criticism carries a lot more weight given what has happened after the point of selling - hence HINDSIGHT. Bad luck is all. AND as I keep fucking saying, and as he says himself he wanted to play football. He wasn't guaranteed that - and is at Cardiff. That's about the sum of it for me.

The way some of you are carrying on is like we've sold Ledley King. I liked him, but his place in the pecking order was right.

So AVB has come out and said that spurs sold Dempsey to finance transfer deals...this goes against previous info, can anyone substantiate these quotes or do we infact have this transfer kitty signed off by joe Lewis?
Not at all, you need to bear in mind that we are only allowed to increase the wage bill by £4mill overall. We need to shift some of the high earners off the bill, this is just as important as the transfer kitty.

I thought we were re-signing Stephen Carr as cover for Walker.

That reminds me of a story when Carr had just broken into the first team. Klinsmann offered to give him a lift to training one day. So the youngster wanted to make a good impression. He got his kit bag ready the night before. You name it he packed it. Klinsmann turns up with just his boots in a plastic carrier bag !!

I'll give you my two-bobs worth on this, and will willingly tale the flak that i know will come.

Does anyone on here seriously think that Fergie or The Special One would have risked playing their stating center half's on that fucking quagmire of a pitch in HK? You could have envisaged the possibility of any of our starters getting injured. In fact i am surprised no one else did. But for the lure of the green-back AVB should have taken a stance and kept our prized assets well clear of playing those games.

We now have the comedic situation where we have no sensible pairing in the middle of our defence to start the season. A fucking masterstroke of genius from whoever decided to sell Caulker (who could have gone in January anyway). The blame for this fiasco firmly rests at the door of AVB and Levy on this one.

Flame away my beauties.
It was a tricky situation though. The bottom line is the players need to get game time so as to get match fit. If our star players were not played in Hong Kong then they have even less games to get fit for the new season. We don't have many games as it is so I'm not sure we could afford to pull out of any friendlies because the pitch isn't up to scratch.

This time of the season is all about getting minutes under the belt in a proper match environment. I can't blame AVB for going ahead with his plans in Hong Kong. Had our key players been rested they might actually be at risk of injury when the season starts anyway because they didn't get enough pre-season games.

Can't really get my head around all the potential outgoings. AVB preferred MO is trying to build a squad that's close together and has a good mentality. Reports from last season spoke of a "band of brothers" mentality that also led to results as the season went on. The Spurs team of 12/13 had a great never-say-die-attitude, and made so many great comebacks.

I can't see why it would make sense to let 7-8 players go and potentially bring in something along those numbers. This isn't FIFA, group dynamics play a large part, and I'd think that the players first to get shifted this transer window would be the players that have seemingly had some issues with their overall mentality (BAE, Adebayor, Thudd) and bit parts like Livermore and Gomes.

Then I'd figure that AVB would want to add players that could add something to the groups mentality. Model professional Paulinho was signed early, something that supported my thoughts. David Villa, a proven winner and probably someone that would boost our winning mentality was strongly linked. That didn't work out, but Soldado is of the same ilk. It makes a load of sense to signed players like this, but to much shifting wont be a good thing.

Especially didn't like the Dempsey sale, he's not to smooth and no David Silva, but he puts in a shift, never gives up and has that great mentality that American athletes seem to have.

Can't be good for the group morale/mentality when so many of the players seemingly are available for transfer and doesn't know where they'll be playing when the season starts.
I would be surprised if we actually sell that many players as Dragon1 has suggested. I think it is more a case that we have about 7-8 players we are willing to sell, not that we will sell all of them. I expect we would sell probably half of those.

Saw a Eurosport news article that says Madrid will pay in 5 installments for Bale. Surely that must be wrong as it wouldn't leave us the cash to try to replace him?
Only problem with that, Eurosport does not own Bale. IF Bale goes it will be on our terms, not Real Madrid's -which be involve a very large payment up front.

Why hasn't Soldado been announced yet and should we be starting to worry about his medical?

Just when things couldn't get any worse....

Soldado has been announced...

Also think back to our latest transfers with Paulinho and Chadli, it took a few days after the medical etc before they confirmed that they passed the medical etc, Chadli even trained with the squad in Hong Kong for a few days before he got confirmed. If something bad was up we would know about it.

6 to 8 players out with the new season approaching fast first sound too good to me. especially where Ade is concerned, I can see it being another stopgap patchwork quilt jobby, like Dempsey, but I hope that doesn't happen.

The whole (underwhelming) scouting thing smacks of the Arry legacy. Very much his way of thinking. AVB was brought in with the DoF thing in mind... Now that's been out in place, they can crack on with agreed targets/agendas etc.

Don't read too much into it.

Still think we can afford to sign Bernard and not sell Bale. Especially with all the outgoings.

For what it's worth most of you will know I have a huge obsession with us getting Bernard.

It's the one thing I ask my source about and for what it's worth he's never once said we've ended our interest, hence why I've passed no real update.

Understanding is Porto were set for him and dad jumped the gun by announcing it in pressed but Porto baulked at having to meet the 25 million euros.

Shahktar are only ones to meet it but Bernard really doesn't fancy it.

Problem is think we'd go for him and would of got him but Shakhtar have scuppered this by meeting their valuation.

Interesting to see how it pans out

Can't we also meet the valuation, considering he doesn't want to go to Shakhtar?
