My QPR pal got back to me after I started hassling him for info on any Parker deal, he got back to me with a bit of bonus info on Townsend.

-Fee agreed for Parker in theory but no terms agreed with the player yet, Parker's wage demands are too high and he wants a pay-off from us. All gone quiet over last couple of days (which would tie in with the confusion over the past couple of days with other teams supposedly in for him and no one really knowing where he is likely to go, I guess?).

-They also want Townsend but we are miles apart on a fee (we want £6.5m plus add-ons, they are offering fuck all - £3.5m plus add-ons...no chance!). He also said he doesn't think Townsend would be up for it but that's just his opinion. Again this has gone quiet since last week.

So, does that mean we're after Eriksson & Lamela? If that is the case I'd be over the moon with this. Buy a back-up striker and a LB I think we'll be ready to challenge even if it means no Bale. I do think if Lamela is coming then Bale is defo off and the acquisition of Lamela would mean we have remedied the loss of Bale exceptionally well.

Damn, I've wanted the Lamela thing to be true for so long, I'm actually kind of flabbergasted that it may actually be true.

I've posted that in the ITK R/O as well but the info is slightly wrong in there - we want £6.5m plus add-ons, I didn't read his text properly and thought we just wanted £6.5m total.

I find it really odd that we are targeting Lamela. He will cost at least £30million.

As others have said, if we sign him then it can only mean Bale is off.

Mine would have been "We are signing Erik Lamela", but I'd have claimed it was cryptic and everyone would still have spent hours trying to figure it out.

We've heard that we've made enquiries on Lamela from several sources now. Some have said we're only enquiring in case Bale does go, others have said we're serious even if we keep Bale.

If we sign Lamela, that would be about as clear a signal that Bale is leaving as if we saw Bale posed in a Real Madrid shirt with "Fuck off Tottenham" on the back.

As an equal number of others have said, that is not necessarily so.

Even so, as far as softening the blow is concerned, Lamela would be one huge fuck off sponge-padded bouncy castle.

Absolutely not.

What's the point of selling a homegrown youth talent who made the step up last year, showed he's good enough for the Premier League, is a Spurs fan, is absolutely desperate to play for the club, is English and can play in several positions, in order to get a very average foreign bloke who will cost more in wages and has no connection with the club or the fans, in order make a bit of money which will only end up marginally improving another position?

Why lose all those positives in the pursuit of a bit of cash? We're not talking a Bale £80m profit which could revolutionise the squad here.

Townsend represents the future of the club, along with Carroll. It's not Football Manager, it's not about saving a few million here to spend it there (those fucking In £78m - Out £56m lists people stick in their sigs every window), it's about building a squad and a club for the future, and if our own English youngsters, who have (most importantly) already shown they have the talent to make it for us, are good enough but get sold in order to make a quick buck, then we're doing something seriously wrong and no longer operating like a 'proper', responsible football club, IMOnion.

Also, this comes back to the Caulker thing. English players are overvalued. We will get lots of money for selling our talented young English players. But in order for that to work you have to replace them with equivalent or better, cheaper foreign players. I don't want to sell all our English players, though. I don't want us to become Arsenal and have games where we don't have a single English player in the squad - I have no respect for clubs like that. United have shown that with faith in their ability and good coaching, English players can be an important and successful part of a title-winning squad in this country. That's what I want.
