Still think he's gonna be a great signing, and our top scorer this season.

he still looks sharp, and always know where the goal is. not worried.

He isn't like Aguero, Michu, or Negredo, insofar as he doesn't typically score goals from outside of 15 yards. At Valencia, they had loads of quality creative players like Banega feeding him with passes on the floor, which is something Townsend and Sigurdsson haven't done so far.

The simple fix is inserting Lamela on the right. He's the most talented player on the team, in my opinion, but he needs a chance to get a run of games with Soldado, which isn't happening right now given that Defoe is the striker for Cup games.

This, maybe playing them both against Anzhi

Got no worries. He's involved in goals even when he's not scoring. He'll come good but a lot of it is down to the team. I can't remember Soldado being put through today; there was no clear cut chance for him to miss apart from the one where he was offside.

This is what worries me, if you go watch extended highlights of matches Soldado played brilliantly for Valencia for; there were loads of through balls for him, slipped in... over the top etc.

He won't score out of nothing so.

I reckon we should play him against Anzhi who are now shit and he should grab a couple of goals to bring his confidence up and then maybe start JD or play Soldado again on sunday and hope that he will score.

But yes, even as an optimist, I am ever so slightly concerned

should play in the Europa on Thursday and start Defoe against west ham, it's fairly likely JD will score against the spam.
Some Europa action with Holtby and Lamela might do Soldado good

i wasn't for the move from the beginning, as you can see here:

i do hope he proves me wrong, it's not that i never rated soldado himself, i think he's a decent finisher but i did flag my concerns about how he'd fit/adapt to our team/league but was shot down with so many negative responses that i didn't bother any more. whether he'll start firing i don't know, but £26m was always too much for him imo.

My biggest problem with soldado was that he always seemed a 442 striker but recently he disproved that but at Valencia they didn't leave him so isolated

He was very poor today, still obviously willing to give him time but he needs to start stepping up and not just on the goal scoring front he won little in the air today and held the ball up poorly with the touch of a rapist when in possession.

We could have done with a more physical presence up there today but Adebayor is still stranded in Africa.

Agreed. So the question is whether our team is accommodating him at the moment as opposed to whether Soldado is good enough. He's definitely a good enough player, but we need to build the team around him it seems. He was the focal point at Valencia and it worked wonders but he's far from the first name on the team sheet here.

I have faith he'll be good, up to the manager to change the system slightly.

He clearly isn't getting the service.

Defoe may look busier because he drops deeper into the 18-30 yard area and fights people (sometimes his own) to get the ball and shoot from wherever it lies. Soldado seems to believe that being in the right place and being patient will yield goals. The trouble with that is we aren't giving him the service. He had nothing until Eriksen arrived. Now has, along with a marked improvement in Holtby's vision is leading to more of the 5-10 yard passes behind defenders. Dembele's pass to Defoe highlights this exactly. It's a slow process but eventually more chances will come and so will his goals.

Personally I think £30m for someone who can finally take a penalty is a bargain.

It's not a matter of confidence with Soldado. He needs to be playing with players who pick passes and play with their heads up. A starting line-up of Defoe, Townsend, and Sigurdsson leading the attack in the league is a recipe for disaster.

We'd be much better off starting Soldado with Lamela and Sigurdsson, with Eriksen behind them against West Ham.

How many clear cut chances did the team make for him? Give him a chance and 9 times out of 10 he will hit the target, his movement is top top class and is creating chances for other guys in the team even if he isn't getting the same kind of chances falling for him.

Not been getting the service, imo. Especially from out wide. We've gone from a team who virtually did nothing but put balls into the box to one which seems incapable of doing so with any regularity. That's down to our FBs imo. That's where the width should be coming from in this system.

I'll not sit here and say he's set the world on fire. Still, he's got a couple of assists now and hasn't prevented the team from playing well which, despite the usual run of scoring early on in the season, most of the current JD nut-huggers are far too quick to forget is most definitely not the case with JD 9 out of 10 games. Which is not a criticism of JD. He just isn't a player capable of playing the lone role up front against better teams. It's not his natural game.

Yeah. Lamela is going to be a big help in terms of getting Soldado involved.

Against lesser opposition we should try to do a chelsea and play creative players everywhere.

Dembele - Holtby - Paulinho

Lamela - Soldado - Eriksen

There you go, Soldado will have a field day.

He is, but it's a huge question of when AVB will give him in a run of games starting in the league. I mean, the fact he didn't even play today doesn't signal that he's going to be going into the first 11 any time soon. I'm concerned about it to be honest, as I'm worried he'll see how well Roma are doing, and be a bit dissatisfied being a bench-warmer for us, even if it's a temporary tactic by AVB like Lloris last season.

Good player in the wrong team. He scored most of his goals for Valencia from quick breaks with accurate incisive passing, we are a lot more progressive with our build up under AVB.
