Sandro isn't the baffling decision, he's clearly not fit enough to play 3 games in 6 days.

No, the baffling decisions are, in order:

Our continued insistence to play Defoe, despite the fact that Soldado is better in every single way.

Us not playing our record signing despite the fact that he's the best attacking player we have.

Us continuing to play Paulinho when he's clearly knackered.

Us sticking with a formation that's not worked at all this season with seemingly no changes.

Us playing a right sided left back when on the bench we HAVE a left sided left back.

Us playing Lennon for 3 times in 6 days.

Defoe played well. Should have scored, but that was his best performance of the season.

Lamela's not played because Lennon's on form and Chadli offers much more defensive protection. Can you imagine Lamela keeping the ball alive for our equaliser?

I've been critical of Paulinho before, but no one else attacks the six yard box from midfield like he does, as was demonstrated by his goal today. He can have a rest now as we can turn out pretty much any team on Thursday.

It worked today.

Naughton was excellent, his best game for Spurs.

Lennon can have a rest now as we can turn out pretty much any team on Thursday.

How it looks now is we wont beat Arse or City, and id be amazed if Chelsea really fuck up. Does that leave us at 4th is best option between us, Man utd, Liverpool and Everton?

Fourth is open but I still think Liverpool or everton will get it I'm still convinced we will blow up at some stage.

For about 10 minutes atfer we scored the 2nd, we played with real swagger-it was great to watch; back heals at pace etc.

I would imagine that, in training, we play with this fluidity. Just seeing it for a part of the match today makes me believe that there is a lot more to come, and I'm sure that worries a few of the other managers in the league!

Yeah, but how many other league games this season have we even looked like we could score three or four? It would have been nice to score a couple more, but it's a step in the right direction against an improving team.
never said i was disappointed with the way we played, the team played well, everyone had a good game. just lacking the desire. we can't take our foot off the gas and expect to coast to victory.

anyway 3points, enough said.... lets look forward to our next match and hope we send in the kids.

What's worrying me right now is that some of you still believe that we can finish above Arsenal this season. Please, get real. We're battling Man.Utd. and Liverpool this season for top4.

I don't think we will win the league, but Arsenal could crumble.

Remember all that mind the gap talk we've had for ages.

All it takes is a bad run for any team to lose a lead of 7 points-especially if we find a winning formula. That is football.

Arsenal are far from championes yet.

I think we showed desire to score a third, it just didn't come. Once you get into the last ten minutes away from home you can't keep committing as many players forward as you can after an hour. But overall the performance today bodes well for the Liverpool game as they won't all decamp to their own penalty area for 90 minutes.

Good all round performance with Dembele, Lennon and Walker outstanding. Holtby possibly played his best game for us since joining. Has to be said that if we could find an Aguero or Suarez we would be fucking awesome. There has to be one out their somewhere that we could tempt to come play for us.

Anyway seven points from nine and six away from home set's us up nicely for the Bin Dippers. I hear that Gerrard is out, so that's one less of the "Golden Age" to worry about.

3 points of second with Liverpool to play - beat them and we'll be behind them on goal difference alone

Massive game - so up for that one next week

Really enjoyed Holtby's perfomance today. His pressing was dogged and insane:ninja:

When he was taken off we let Sunderland through the middle quite often; which is a testament to Holtby's work rate.

Although he will never be on their level, he his off the ball work up front is on par with Aguero and Suarez for sure.

Defoe has 1 league goal in his approx. the last 1200 league minutes played. He has missed countless quality chances in that time-span in 2013. It's a huge financial risk for the club to keep Soldado on the bench for Defoe given his goal-scoring drought and the money we've spent on Soldado does matter, as we operate on a relatively tight budget, and in my opinion, Soldado is the superior player.

As poor as we often are at supply (and we are) i would never, ever pick Defoe over Soldado. We had some quality crosses and through-balls put in today for one of the few times this season and bugger all on the end of them. The miss by Defoe (from the six yard box i think) tells us all we need to know, and i just hope that Nielsen wasn't watching from his TV room over in Toronto.

With Lennon back to form and Chadli, Lamela, or Townsend available to play on the left it makes no sense to persist with this defunct experiment that is Defoe.

BBC stat. .. 22 shots...5 on target... that is insanely bad. But sums up our keep shooting tactic instead of carve out real opps

i dont think its as bad as it looks

5 on target, two off the post and a fair amount just past posts/crossbar. its not shots 20 yards over or heading to the corner flag.

Its better than hitting all the shots into the keepers arm.

strange that i am the only one disappointed that the team didn't look hungry enough to kill the game off. teams like liverpool, arsenal, man city, when on top, they keep their level up and finish the game. we didn't do it, and it HAS came back to bite us in the past.

we lived dangerously, and its something we need to change if u want 4th.
I was never his fan but a team managed by Harry would have done just that. I have seen it too many times since AVB that he seems contented with the 1-0 and 2-1 wins.

We carved out plenty of 'real' opportunities. Plenty. :)

We murdered them. It was a 2-1 massacre. The fact that there are people negatively dissecting this to the nth degree baffles me. We've gone from mass manic depression to complaining that we didn't dominate for 90 minutes and kill the game off. Two away wins, both times coming back from a goal down and this time with flashes of absolute domination. At times we passed them to death. At times we absolutely dominated and embarrassed them. Poyet's team aren't the mugs they were at the start of the season with Di Canio in charge and this was a very very good result.

If nothing else perhaps we can take this a sign that we're at least heading in the right direction. A bit of improvement here and there is needed but it's all looking a lot rosier now than it has done for a few weeks.

I knew he came off, but great news if he's done his hammy. I was at this game last year, and bar the first 20 minutes were we went 2 nil up he controlled the game for them for the remainder.

Is it confirmed he's definitely out?
I was in the Kop at Anfield in the game which turned our season last year. Still having nightmares about it !! We are due some luck against them gits !!
