Oh fuck it. We have had a good run and it's come to
An end. But we will pick it up again. I think we will finish 4th.
It's not the end of the world tonight, and there were some
Positives.
A) Rose being sent off means some relief as that shit player misses some games
B) Dembele injured means Capoue can get a run out.
C) with Rose out and naughton obviously useless we may get a LB.
D) our injured players are almost back- kaboul vertongen paulinho are top quality.

We will get 4th !

You realise Rose was probably our best player tonight? Plus, Capoue is most likely off; Daniel wants the moolah.

Plus Kaboul will most likely snap his cruciate getting into the bath.

Just thought I'd cheer you up.

The lack of self-belief in the first 30 minutes was palpable; we had been showing signs of starting to believing that we could compete when Rose, who had actually been one of the few players who looked up for it from the start, got himself sent off.

City are the better team, but the gulf is not as wide as we made it look tonight. If we keep faith with them these players*, and I believe, this manager, will come good.

*okay, maybe not Sigurdsson...

Completely agree. The main difference is not the technical quality of the players but this:

When City have the ball, their players not in possession run into space to receive a pass.

When we have the ball, our players stand still.

What's pains me more than the result is that we will never get near the man city and Chelsea's who can buy who they want. We have to sell the best player of a generation to compete. Granted we bought poorly. But still we just don't have the buying power. This league will go the same way as they Spanish league

Did they also lose 6-0, 5-0 and drop points at home to West Brom & West Ham that season?

Let's be realistic, we're 5th largely because the teams around us have been inconsistent.
Not really. We're two points better off than we were at this stage last year. Liverpool and Everton have more points than at this stage last year too (liverpool have 12 more). So it's nothing to do with the others keeping us in the race.

The linesman was a total disgrace tonight.

At 1-0 down with 11 men I thought we could get something from the game, unfortunately I forgot how inept the linesman was

I'd say our goal difference is going to be the biggest hurdle in our attempt to attain a top four place now.

It has been for long, no matter if tonight would've been just 0-1 climbing up the difference would've been too much of a task on gd department.

Sending off or not, they were a different class tonight. Only one team was going to win that match tonight for me and it was quickly apparent. We were competing brilliantly but they seemed to be in 2nd gear for stretches. Their squad has hideously underachieved for a couple of yrs now. With a manager/HC who knows what he's doing in charge now, these are the results of hunnerts of millions spent season after season for about 6 yrs. Insane strength and quality.

We also didn't give a good account of ourselves tonight when things went against us but hey, only one game in a 38 game season. We have a lot of our bastard fixtures already done and have been looking better in the 'should win' games so far under TS. I'm still expecting us to fall short but there's every chance in reality. Just my decades of glorious defeat skewing my outlook.

Football's a funny old game, Misfit, me old mucker. I do agree that City were clearly the most likely to win, however, things could have gone so differently. We could have held on to a point had that Dawson goal been allowed, or even grabbed an equaliser if the red card had not have happened. I do think that the red card was the proverbial nail in the coffin, and without that decision we could've got something despite playing poorly. You can still play awfully yet grind out a result. Seen plenty of teams do that over the years.

Nonetheless, I think we'll go on to get a good result against Hull on the weekend. I hope the FA sees sense and rescinds Rose's card. To ban him for that would be criminal.

so Tim gets off scott free after a performance like this, but AVB gets lambasted?

A) where did I lambast AVB; and
B) AVB did set the team up with a fundamentally different philosophy, which I must admit, in my view, was not suited to the premier league but that is not relevant to this game at all

That been reality for a least 20 years, maybe longer.

We lost - thats all.

Thought we gave it our all - no complaints. (other than the linesman)

Positive of the night for me was Eriksen's set pieces. We've been utterly shit at these for years and it always felt as though our most recent managers probably weren't even making us practice them in training. If that's something that changing under Tim, in conjunction with Eriksen's prowess in that area it's definitely a major plus point for the future. In other seasons it could well have made the difference between CL and Europa qualification. Probably not this season mind...

French international Capoue should be ahead of a 19 yr old, without question!.

Chadli should be ahead of Siggy, granted there's not a lot in it but Nacer gets in for me..

When Dembele went off Holtby should have come on replacing attack minded with attack minded, when Capoue came on we had two cm who are more defence minded, and we were behind!

Rose is average at best but he's a better LW than he is a LB, we need that position sorting out and its needed sorting since last summer.

Walkers poor decision making at vital times still amazes me for someone who looked so promising a couple of years ago..

I am really concerned about how the club is going. I can see us on a slippery slope if we stay as we are.

You really think we deserve to get hammered 1-5?

Didn't see the match but judging by all the comments from the sky panel yeah. He kept saying during the first half that we could be 5/6/7 down. Then the stats had 21 shots to our 3 so I certainly don't think we can complain.

Depressing of course.

Agreed. Only way to get 4th is to continue to stay in contact with Liverpool, Everton and United and hope that we pick up points where they drop, and to pick up 3 points against Liverpool and Everton.

Yeah, Eriksen was poor, that's why I said Sherwood was 40 minutes late replacing him with Holtby. What use is putting on a player with 10 minutes to go, at 4-1 down?
Maybe he was thinking that Eriksen would start on Saturday at Hull despite the poor performance and so not risking an injury in the last 10 mins with the game out of sight. That's all I can think of. I didn't disagree with your initial post, I just thought there were a few candidates in front of Eriksen in the queue to get dragged. Namely Siggy and Lennon (who seems to keep disappearing in the big games - barring United)
