I look at the squad of players at Southampton and then I look at where they finished in the league.............he hasn't done that great a job.......they finished where I would expect them to.
I think going for Pochettina is a mistake.

Absolutely agree. He inherited some outstanding home-grown players (I don't know what they do down there, but we could have done with some of it at Spurs over the years) and was given the thick end of £40m to spend last summer and didn't spend it too effectively—Osvaldo, anyone? That's a pretty decent squad he's had at his disposal, and to be fair he's had them playing some pretty football at times, but is a 38% win percentage that great? At best, he's achieved par.

If van Gaal had still been on the cards (and who knows, he and the media may have been counting unhatched chickens) it would have been a no-brainer. Now, none of the potential successors to Sherwood comes without a question mark.

Not sure Poch could handle egos. He's got some honest players at Saints who don't fancy themselves - and those who do want to leave. Going to Spurs he'll be buying a different class of player. How we he handle them? We don't know. I feel it might be to big a step.

Short term (18 months) I'd go for Benitez. We'd have a spine, be cohesive, his name will attract the kind of quality we're looking for, but the footy will be pragmatic, hence only a short-term, back-on track, appointment.

I'd like Benitez too but I just don't think he's available. I'm sure he'll be extending his contract with Napoli.

calm down darling. only? no. but you don't need to take everything so literally. They weren't no-hopers, but they are playing above themselves for a manager they seem to want to play for... traits or qualities - even an outcome if you like - that would suit Spurs very nicely.

And there's no need to swear dude; or wave your willy.

Maybe I don't need to swear, but nothing will stop me waving my schlong around.

If he comes in, I'll support him and make outlandish claims about him being the second-coming of Nicholson. Just not 100% sold on him as of yet.

Fair do's mate; I think it'll work. An if it doesn't, it doesn't. As long as we win the league before 2019 (my deathclock prediction) all will be fine... Erk!

The issue I have is with the 'only' part of the post. They are not only that level because of him - they can take some credit themselves for having the talent/potential.

Ok, fair enough. Of course they have some players who are excellent in their own individual right and would show this for whatever Club they played at in all likelihood.

Hes played with some pretty big players in his career and with the Argentine National team. Sure he can handle a stroppy shits at our club.

Are they though? Thats like saying AVB propelled Bale into a Galactico, which is of course absolute nonsense.

Its not only down to Pochettino, of course it isn't, that would apply to any manager. But he's sure as hell enhanced their performance as a collective, and that's what good coaching is all about.

So its fair to say a lot of them have really flourished under that coaching.

Sorry for the ranting, I just can't understand why we're considering doing this dance again.

Did we learn nothing from the last two fancy foreigners with a Powerpoint and a diet plan? Is Levy genuinely gambling on "third time lucky"?

Could say this about FDB too ya know

Soldado can play the lone striker role in the right environment. An environment that excludes greedy and ineffectual wingers and includes genuine creative players and proper tactics. There is a massive difference playing the lone striker in front of Lamela, Chadli and Eriksen instead of Lennon, Townsend and Sigurdsson. He isn't a striker that creates for himself like Adebayor so he needs this kind of unselfishness behind him.

We have seen his intelligence and skill, the only thing that is missing is confidence, and as long as our new manager favours our better attackers then he will get more chances and score more goals. Once this happens we'll see a new Soldado, a centre forward that gives us a cutting edge that will make all the difference.

Like I said, he'd get a goals under Tino, all anyone needs to do is go and watch clips of s'ton attacking and see how many people they get in and around the box. Tino takes the word 'attack' very seriously indeed.

Bobby would not be short of supply or opportunities.

These outstanding home grown players that were at the bottom of the table, who are now being picked for England and who are now the main transfer targets for the top 4 sides in the league.

People citing Osvaldo as an example of Pochettino's bad spending are missing three things:

1. He scored a ton of goals for him at Espanyol
2. He scored a load at Roma before and has actually gone up the league to Juve
3. Poch won't get near a chequebook if he comes.
