Its not only down to Pochettino, of course it isn't, that would apply to any manager. But he's sure as hell enhanced their performance as a collective, and that's what good coaching is all about.

So its fair to say a lot of them have really flourished under that coaching.

Indeed 2 were in the pfa team of the year this year

Ahh, that's right, I forgot. That's the kind of thing that will follow him forever though.

He's also pleaded not guilty to being way over the drink drive limit on the basis he doesn't understand English lol

Hands up, honestly, did anyone really tip Saints to finish 8th this season? You know, honestly at the start of the season?

Honestly?

I know you shouldn't pamper to their egos, but one of my few concerns with Ponch is how the players contemplating their futures will react to his appointment - will this settle them down in belief that we may actually start going forward again - ie Lloris, Verts and Eriksen. There are certain players we can do without, but there are others that we need.

It's one of the things that I believe FdB has in his favour - his past relationship with some of these, and how he may be perceived.

I wouldn't have put them far off. Especially after they've spent more than most teams in the league since they came back up.

These outstanding home grown players that were at the bottom of the table, who are now being picked for England and who are now the main transfer targets for the top 4 sides in the league.

C'mon, everyone saw how good these guys were in league 1, the championship two years ago, and when Poch took over in the middle of a relegation battle last season.

I look at the squad of players at Southampton and then I look at where they finished in the league.............he hasn't done that great a job.......they finished where I would expect them to.
I think going for Pochettina is a mistake.
That's not a negative though is it? We're massively underachieving. So if he can get similar results here then we will finish where we're expected to which will point to improvement. Very difficult to find a manager that can get a team to massively overachieve.

Not giving Poch any credit for the improvement at Southampton is like saying "big deal Rodgers got Pool second, look at how good Sterling, Suarez, and Sturridge are!"

Which just completely ignores both the progress of the players as individuals and collectively.

Yes, Southampton look like the 8th best squad in the league. That's because they are! But they became that under Poch.

Exactly. I didn't think they were doing that badly under Adkins, and I certainly don't think Pochettino had them performing significantly better. He did improve them, but they were already playing quite well and holding their own in the Prem.

Like I said, he'd get a goals under Tino, all anyone needs to do is go and watch clips of s'ton attacking and see how many people they get in and around the box. Tino takes the word 'attack' very seriously indeed.

Bobby would not be short of supply or opportunities.

I guess that's why they scored fewer goals than us, and let almost as many in.

Meanwhile, whilst Bobby-darling (glad you two—and Tino-baby!—are on such touchingly close terms!) is getting oodles of supply, what happens to our best striker?

Eriksen has already stated he will stay, Lloris leaving would be a blow and Vertonghen isn`t anywhere near as good as he thinks he is or gets credit for on here, he can`t even get ahead of Vermaelen for Belgium.

So if Adkins had stayed they'd have been, inevitably, developed to this stage/level, at this point, and been england picks, right?

You guys are joking this evening....

You can't compare them to us. We've got far more quality.

And where would the Scousers be without Suarez' goals? Their defence was almost as comical as ours.

Edit: Entertaining ratings from no-marks who haven't, apparently, checked the league table recently. Liverpool let in 50 goals, we let in 51. This would suggest that their defence was quite as bad as ours.
