I believe Capoue's long range pass is not bad either. and yet we still have tom carroll coming back from QPR. I would rather save some budget and look for a good LB instead.
Yeah i do agree, i was just saying who i'd take from Southampton. I think a LB and LW is essential this summer.

i'd say neuer & courtois are better tbh

but lloris is superb. he really isn't going to be here next year though, once psg or monaco put an offer in he's gone and you can't blame him

Good news on Hugo.
Looking at the situation logically and divorcing our feelings from THFC for a moment, if i were Hugo i wouldn't go back to France, PSG would pay silly wages and participate in the CL, contest the league but the overall quality of the league is poor, if he moves it will be for big money within the PL, realistically only City or to one of the Spanish giants.
With the longevity of GK's he can bide his time, he must look at Brad everyday and think he has at least another 20 years at the top :woot:

Really i think Lovren should be the priority from them, terrific player and would fit into our defence perfectly.

As much as i like Lalllana (and i really like him quite a bit) with his pricetag (£25m-£30m) i almost feel it is better to take the same money and at least try for Shaw....yes we will likely get shotdown and outbid but at least Shaw would be addressing our most glaring need, can't hurt to ask and all that.

I really like Schneiderlein, if we lose some of our depth in the middle of the pitch i think he would be a fantastic one to bring in. Sounds like the Gunners are interested though i am absolutely baffled as to why LFC haven't sounded him out...seems like the exact type of player that would flourish with them especially if they are able to offload Lucas.

I think we have a better shot at Shaw than Lallana. Shaw is still very young, and might want to have a couple more years with a manager he likes and trusts, now that that manager is at a bigger club. He can still get a bigger move at some point in his career. Lallana, on the other hand, is at the point in his career when time is about to run out. I'm sure he'll rather play for a team that challenged for the title this year.

Lallana and Shaw look too pricey, great players but not at that money,Schneiderlin/Rodriguez/Lovren i can see being in our range, in fact i wouldn't put it past the goons to snap up Schneiderlin as the new Flamini.

Schneiderlin/Rodriguez and i would be ecstatic, would start to balance out the squad nicely.

Thats on topic wrt Soton's fire sale ITK bc of Poch. I dont see a need for Schneiderlin. We have more than enouch CM's. Sandro, Capoue, Paulinho, Dembele, Carroll, Bentaleb and Holtby(whose also a 10). We can afford to loan out Carroll and Bentaleb and still have enough CM's!

Fair enough, but I did say if Sandro Leaves. Schneiderlin was pivotal to Southampton last year.

A new contract typically means that you keep the player for a year. I know that is raining on everybody's parade, but it's only meant to be realistic yet hopeful. It doesn't mean that Lloris is off next year, mind you....he might stay for a long time (and my gut is that he will). But the new contract typically means you are safe to assume a player will stay for the next year only

And that's just the reality for clubs below that uber-rich level. Hopefully it means he'll be with us a long time. But with commodities that are sought, like Modric and Bale, the contract kept them for a year but allowed us leverage when they threw their tantrums to leave.

Now the first person to quote me will have all kinds of examples that counter this both for the player staying and the player leaving. But I don't mean for my post to indicate this is concrete. It's just a rule of thumb.

So good news. But don't get too comfortable. As always with us, the Champions League is our security against top players leaving more than contracts. However, keeping him is pretty important if we are going to make it back.

I feel bad for their supporters. I enjoyed watching Southampton and a few of their players. They will have money, but I don't see them re-investing all of it. I think they will fail to attract some players. Hopefully their academy does the job again, and they stay up.
When the owner died midway through last season it was said then that his daughter, who inherited his estate, wasn't keen on continuing the project at Southampton.
Cortese left now Poch and then the better players will go. It will be interesting to see how much, if any, of the money is reinvested or whether the owner looks to take money out of the club.

Still not entirely sold on Lovren. He was decent last year, but nothing too special, and that was the best season of his career to date. Lovren is still young and I think we could do with a bit more experience at the back, considering we might lose Kaboul through injury, and Dawson isn't good enough.

Excellent post

Their academy has produced for years, so I think that will continue. But even when it was creating the likes of Bale and Walcott, they were relegated and it took them a number of years to return (although a lot of blame goes to a certain manager who likes to talk from his auto who spent too much and used the academy too little). So a lot more will be contingent on getting a manager who can nurture and utilize the academy.

Lallana is so overated, 26, journeyman who had one good season, reminds me of Charlie Adam at Blackpool

I would take a punt at 10-12m but 26m or so is just barmy

Agree 100%

We've seen it all before eh - the blokes 26 !

Journeyman ? He's been at one club his entire senior career.

Exactly, what i mean is he is a reasonable to good player who didn't make any real impact on anyone and has just had a golden season, same as Adam did at Blackpool
