Side note, if this double-signing were to happen, your opening day Southampton First XI (As it stands):

------------------ Boruc -------------------
Clyne --- Fonte --------- Yoshida -- Hooiveld
---------- Wanyama -- Cork -----------------
Davis --------Ward-Prowse ----- Tadic
----------------- Pelle ------------------------

Note: I don't think they have a true LB anymore. No depth at RB, zero depth on the right and their backup strikers are Mayuka and Gallagher.

I would have thought it has to be Sandro, Capoue, Bentaleb, Paulinho, Dembele in that order of likelihood. I'd never have expected us to try and strengthen CM this summer. But if he can improve the team, fine.

If was a betting man wouldn't move past first name. Far too much smoke.

Eh? J Rod is a solid player. 14 goals in the premiership last season from left wing, and 1 from up front. Griezmann got 15 in La Liga and people were going nuts. Only 1 year difference between then but none of the language / settling problems. I can understand worries about his recovery from injury but there shouldn't be any technically

My concern is that most of those goals came from using his pace to make a striker's run in behind off the shoulder to thrive off the Saints' frequency of vertical passes. They had the space to make that work, but we won't. From what I've seen, Jay is not the type to face a compact back line and make things happen. I agree he is a good player, but I don't understand why we would want him to work for what we face, hence my "technical" concern.

As for the physical, considering he relies so much upon his pace, why in the hell are we pursuing a guy that would be fresh off an ACL tear? Granted, there may be things I don't know about his recovery, but that is almost always an extremely risky strategy, especially considering his style of game.

Doesn't actually look that bad lol. Considering still have like 70 odd million to spend.

That defense, apart from Clyne, would be abused. I think Hooiveld, as it stands, would have to play LB but he never has if I'm remembering correctly. I do agree that there is potential in the attack if they can improve on Davis.

Seriously, just thinking about it, if we want to sell Rose, Southampton would be an obvious choice to get some decent money. Does anyone know who their LB option is at this point?

Yeah but he's not just pace. Anyway, a front three of Rodriguez, Soldado and Lamela could seriously enhance our goal threat, I wonder if Rodriguez learnt any Spanish off his family

Simon Peach has been awful, I thought. Wasn't he the one who said Poch would be staying at Southampton and wouldn't join us?!?!

Don't kill my buzz! I always got the impression he got a lot of info from the club much like a Paul Hirst (Also Press Association) or Ben Pearce or Tom Collomose did with us.

I'd imagine he'd be less inclined to report bad news as he seems fond of Soton (hence why he was keen to report that Soton told him Poch was signing a new deal).

Curious though, why do you cite to back up Lamela? They don't play the same side, while that'd be pushing aside both Lennon and Townsend from their favored side?

Because whenever I watched Soton last season I could barely place where the players were starting due to amount of fluidity. Half the time Lallana left, Rodriguez Central, up top, left. I just see them both filling same 'role' in team despite where they may start on team sheet.

Its a fair point but at the same time he is a very hard worker who presses very well and is an under-rated finisher.

He is a good finisher true enough, but what confidence can we have that he can fulfill that pressing ability after his recovery?

I hope I'm wrong if it comes to be, but I simply cannot fathom a reason from the surface why we'd get Rodriguez with a recently snipped ACL over a healthy player with the pace to press and versatility of style in Konoplyanka. Utterly mind-boggling to me.

Agree with this, would be sad to see Sandro leave but MS is an upgrade on him.

J Rod would be a very Un-Levy like risk

It all depends on the price. If we can get him for cheap due to the injury and his contract running down, it makes sense given his best years are arguably still in front of him so long as he recovers from the injury and he also is home grown.

Just realised he was a PA journo- Press Association always reliable IIRC and many Spurs fans and the suicidal Saints fans taking this very seriously. I will offer a note of caution as he said we are close but then seemed to say that we are just in talks...

It's true Poch's teams feature constant rotation up top, but again Lamela is the kind of player who can take on a compact back line and create. Rodriguez has never struck me as the kind of player to do that, but rather the type to be on the receiving end of such creativity. I'd even draw more of a similar comparison to Townsend or Lennon if we're referring to anyone on our current roster.

Yeah I've just looked at defence again. They'll invest though surely. Personally think they'll be fine. Think Tadic is a fantastic player.

Maybe I'm just used to disappointment but I feel like something will go wrong here. It'd be the most Spursy thing imaginable if we fucked up signing a player who might actually PREFER US OVER ARSENAL.

Yeah, Tadic is great. I'm really intrigued by Pelle just because of how well he played for Koeman at Feyenoord. He's a bit on the older side, but could get plenty of opportunities to score goals. (I'm going for him in fantasy as a decent stash).
