We were terrible tonight. Our squad is so lacking in quality it hurts.

G Nev was quoted as saying that Utd need to spend another hundred mill to compete for the title, and that's the kind of money we'd have to spend just to get us ready to compete for top four again. Shame we wasted roughly 70 percent of that figure on utter dross last summer.
Sad but true

I think tonight has shown that we're going to struggle against any team that sits deep and hits us on the break. We don't have the quality to break teams down easily. We seemed short of ideas. We may do better against better sides who will allow us to play a bit.

Barcelona played Malaga away tonight. They had 70% possession and didn't manage to get one shot on target in 95 minutes with a team that included Iniesta, Neymar and Messi.

Teams have sussed us out. Pearce said they came to sit back and counter attack and it nearly worked. Liverpool did us easily with the same tactics yet they are now suffering exactly the same. It's far easier to defend. Without a Modric or a Bale we're gonna suffer a lot more this season. I'm hoping Lamela can be our new Modric, if not it's going to be a long season.

That's how everyone will play against us. We need to be passing and moving at least as twice as fast and making space but regardless It just doesn't seem to be clicking though.

Mason made the difference, he moved the ball forward and looked like he gave the team a lift.
Andros did ok some good some bad.
Bentaleb had a dodgy game, gave the ball away in dangerous areas.
Motm, Mason changed the game.
South stand was great, loads of noise, funniest thing all night, stewards telling people to sit down, someone said stand up if you hate Arsenal, everyone stood even the stewards laughed.

Bentaleb never hides, in fact the last thing anyone can accuse him of is being anonymous because he's always showing for the ball. He doesn't shirk his defensive duties either. He was dispossessed and made a couple of bad passes but still made near double stambouli's passes(a whooping 106 passes with a 91% accuracy) Considering his age he should earning rave reviews.

Glad Soldado scored. When he missed trying to whack the ball in the net after Masons goal I was waiting for the commentator to come out with some snide comment

I would also like to add that his running into space was absolutely fanatastic also but 95% of the clowns in this place will never, ever see it or realise what he is doing!

It was P Nev. I don't take anything he says seriously, he's an idiot.

Our problem is that although we were willing to splash out on headline-grabbing fees (which may or may not have been largely conditional - knowing Levy, I wouldn't be surprised if we outright spent far less last summer than most of us believe) we were not willing to splash out on tip top wages. That's the real reason we can't compete with the big boys.

It's probably because his passing is usually quite unadventurious so he's not really a player who makes you stand up out of your seat. Which is why a lot may consider him anonymous, he'll see a lot of the ball but do nothing memorable with it so you just forget what he did over 90 if you're not paying close attention.

Hence no rave reviews from media or press

It always has been, and will continue to be a problem until we get the stadium sorted. As far as I'm aware our wages to turnover ratio is actually higher than Arsenal's, despite the fact that their wage bill dwarves ours. There's not much we, or Levy, can do about that. We should have got far better quality for the Bale money though, there's no denying that. That transfer splurge could have, and perhaps still will, defined the short term future of the club. It's a crime that the money was invested so carelessly on players who fall short even of mediocrity.

I agree, but it really is easy with hindsight. At the time, most thought we'd done very well, me included. If we'd spent less than we did, the arguments that we'd not reinvested and had no ambition would've been deafening. I really don't think we could've attracted many particularly top class players last summer either.

But yes, bottom line is in a summer of self-imposed mass-upheaval there was not way we should've been bringing in Capoue, Chiriches, Chadli. I admit that I thought Paulinho was going to be class. Soldado was never a good fit.

I have been saying for ages that if Liverpool had spent all that money on those players.....we would be pissing ourselves with laughter.
We spent £50m on Soldado,Paulinho and Chirches and we will be very, very lucky to get £20m back..........will Levy take that hit?................If he doesn't these guys will be here for quite a while.
Capoue and Chadli............they are ok not worth half of what we spent on them.
They both could be a bit better if someone shoved a rocket up their arse every game but from their languid demeanour thats probably very unlikely.
Lamela.......hope he comes good, still young and at least he puts in the effort everytime he plays.......even though there are lots of things he needs to improve on.At present still looks like a very expensive Adel Taraabt.
