Spurs U21s (v Leicester): Archer, McQueen, Walker-Peters, Ward, Ogilvie, Khumalo (c), Sonupe, Winks, Lameiras, Onomah, Oduwa #COYS

Think this means Lameiras playing as a false no 9

Archer,
McQueen, Kumalo, Ogilvie, Walker-Peters,
Ward, Winks
Sonupe, Onomah, Oduwa
Lameiras

Spurs U21s subs (v Leicester): Lesniak, Miller, Akindayini, Miles (GK) #COYS

See if that was the case I would assume they would have put Miller up there. I thought Lameiras is wing prob LW with Oduwa or Sonupe up front. but your just as likely as they carry in experimenting

U21s: Lads have controlled opening stages, forcing several corners. @GrantWard_ off target from 30yards, Ogilvie alert to deny Panayiotou

Lameiras often plays as a no 10, so thought Onomah would be 10 and Lameiras false 9. But Ward could be false 9, Lameiras 10 and Onomah as a CM. Lots of possible ways that these guys could line up - agreed surprised Miller is not playing false no 9 again.

Versatile players are great aren't they ?!

U21s: Great chance as @Joshuaonomah10 threads a pass through for @RubenLameiras but keeper Maddison saves low down. 0-0, 25mins #COYS

U21s: WOODWORK - @RubenLameiras' shot is deflected onto bar. Sonupe also strikes woodwork 2mins later after breaking down left. 0-0, 30mins

Close but no cigar !

Here's the Spurs under-21 side to face Leicester this lunchtime.

Tottenham Hotspur under-21s: Maddison, Pearson (c), Chilwell, Sesay, Moore, Upson, Dodoo, McCourt, Stankevicius, Panayiotou, Fox

Subs: Lesniak, Miller, Akindayini, Miles (GK)

Line-up conformed by Lewis Doe..or should that be Doh!

Speaking of which Dodoo, Stankevicius.:)

Prime example of why HTC is a site I avoid. I've no idea why it ocassionally gets on the front page, HTC clearly knows nothing about Spurs

I cant help but think lineups like this highlight the need for a striker or 2 at the upper levels of the academy. Besides for Loft, Harrison and Akindayini, the only ones we have who can fill in are WF's by trade like Oduwa, Azzaoui and Sonupe.

Yup been saying that for some time.

Big gap between Kane (age 21) and Loft/Harrison (age 17) with Coulthirst and Akindayini in between and neither shining - a couple more have fallen away but another striker or two aged 18/19 would be good - allows a couple of years to polish them up, and if older and any good they would be starting to trouble the first team of their current club.

Unless you are playing long ball football, why get overly hung up on whether we have an orthodox striker or not. Our academy is about pass, press and movement, about coaching/teaching players to work as a group. Play without an orthodox striker, as long as whoever's up there is a good football with decent technique and desire and work ethic, we'll be OK.

Yes, but its also about whether we can get another striker to follow Kane into first team contention, plus it does the world of good if we have good players in every position in the u21's to maximise chances of winning which in turn is a great spur to all players to do their best.

Not essential - because I imagine next season Harrison will start to play for u21's, but if he doesn't make it for any reason, we have an even bigger gap opening up. So its certainly on the 'useful to have' list

Fair point.

On another note, is Edwards a midfielder/ attacking mid or forward ? Not seen much of hm at all, just snippets where he always seemed to be in the box, but someone called him a midfielder on here the other day ?

http://www.thefa.com/news/england/d...football-makes-him-smile-on-the-inside-010814 England call him a forward in this. Think he's positionally more of an AM/no 10 but could also play as an unorthodox forward as he seems to have such great atttacking instincts (and an unusually low centre of gravity). He's still young, will develop so may well change as he gets older.

Agree with SI. I think forward is quite vague, as a second striker could be a forward and also be classed as a number 10. Plus a winger could be a wing forward. I have only ever seen him play behind the sriker or on the wing in forwardish positions. So I'd call him an AM/W but he can play as a forward, but I think it is misleading as it implies he is a striker which he is not. BUT he could always change.

FTI - When I was watching the Nike tournament last year I posted at least one stream of the match which can be rewatched. Edwards played in 2 of the matches so anyone who hasn't seen him can go and watch the games.

So what you're really telling me is Messi is the English Marcus Edwards.

I actually compared him to Messi in his style in this thread. The way he moves/walks/dribbles etc. Sounds extreme but he has that low centre of gravity and excellent balance too.
