It was before a game like Chelsea, I think he was asked if he'd been studying them and he said something not too dissimilar to "nah, I don't bother with that, we just go out and do our thing and you can't be worrying too much about what they're doing". Can't find the video or quote at the mo

It was the LFC match....that he did that.

If he did say that before the game he must have been deliberately attmpting to mislead, because he clearly did set up his team specifically for that game. Certainly on becoming manager he said that it was important to adopt a different approach when playing the top sides.

To be fair, he said a lot of things originally, then completely contradicted them to suit him later on in his career.

Whether or not he's learnt, I'm sure time will tell...

Sherwood's philosophy was that you should play your own game against teams that you should beat but that against those that have better players than you do you need to vary your approach to set them a tactical challenge they are not anticipating. Such tactical experiments may or may not be succesful, on a case by case basis, but will almost certainly fail if you get a player sent off.
Well what the living fuck. lmfao

Ok, that's it, I had suspicions you were Tim, but now I'm fucking positive!

true but a lot of decent coaches are, look at van Gaal - mad as a box of frogs
Did you just mention Timothy Alan Sherwood and LVG in the same breath in a shoddy attempt to conflate their ability level.

This thread will go gold.

Talking about last seasons coaching staff, Ramsey often got painted as the enlightened one, but the couple of games I have paid notice of QPR he seems to be making equally daft decisions. 4-4-2's no matter what, Kranjcar central midfield... Hardly wise choices.

You say that but I read this yesterday on villa talk

"Really impressed with Sherwood. My favourite managers in football right now are Simeone and Klopp and whilst i'm not going to make comparisons between Sherwood and them tactically yet you can definetly see a few similarities in their motivational abilities."

To be fair on the Kranjcar front, he is normally played on the left wing. Against Arsenal, Barton was suspended and, as per norm, Sandro lasted about 30 mins in the match. I don't think he had any other choice other than to stick him in CM.

On the 4-4-2 front, HR has built a team designed to play that kind of formation, so without a transfer window I don't think he's got the depth to do anything to different. 2-1 against Arsenal isn't bad, especially as their potential survival could come down to goal difference.
