If he thinks he's overpriced at 3.5m euros wtf are we getting him for?
Because he's 3.5m euros Oh Levy....

Yeah, I was definitely hoping for something more along the lines of 'really talented player, am surprised no one else has gone in for him, could immediately get into our first team, is a snip at that price' - it wa basically the opposite
Oh well, as others have said, if it's true we'll just have to trust our scouts
Looks interesting. I like signings like this. 'Got Mitchell written all over it'. - @thinktank
I wonder how many English names sound like girls names in other languages when translated....
Stambouli won't leave, he will be an important player next season, seriouslyMy impression is he's the No 8 in a 4-2-3-1, and so is listed in many places as a DM when he's just a holding midfielder who can get forward. Nonetheless, I think Stambouli will probably leave this summer anyway.
I know you said you watch a lot of football, so have you seen him play and you rate him, or are you just being sarcastic?I hope we sign this lad very much!!! He's gonna be good! I have no doubt
Nooo I watched him twice this season due to me betting on the team he plays for and genuinely think he will be real deal if he settles quick abroad at a young age. I'd throw him straight into cups if we buy him so he doesn't get stale with lack of match practice. Future talentI know you said you watch a lot of football, so have you seen him play and you rate him, or are you just being sarcastic?
Palace after Cabaye? And we're not interested
Maybe he wants to play for Pardew againPalace after Cabaye? And we're not interested
Flash back to last summer.
Southampton sold, Chambers, Lovren, Shaw, Lallana and Lambert, amongst others. 5 of, if not the 5, best players they had. 4 of whom were, and still are the 4 biggest fees received. We also took their manager and entire backroom staff.
Fast forward 12 months, how did their reassembled squad fair? Not too bad actually. Their signings were very astute, and typically under the radar names.
The scouting staff did their due diligence so they were bought in for reasonable fees, to come in and be genuine instant difference making additions, not so much risky big name, big reputation, big money buys, who ultimately end up as mere squad fillers.
The point I'm trying to make here, the man rumoured to be largely responsible for those aquisitions, none other than a certain Paul Mitchell, who is now in the employment of our own beloved club, at the instigation of Pochettino. So I'm inclined to believe they are historically on the same wavelength, and as such, if they feel Linetty, or anyother lesser known players for that matter, would be positive signings for us, happy days. Crack on fellas.
Southampton's signings were almost assuredly influenced by their manager, a Dutch footballing legend who knew of, or had worked with a number of the players they brought in. Pelle was Koeman's main striker at Feyenoord. Tadic was the most creative attacking footballer in the Eredevisie, which Koeman saw up close (and he cost nearly 11 million pounds). Alderweireld was one of the best defenders in that league before going to Atletico and one Koeman undoubtedly had been watching for years at rival Ajax (and a player we talked about repeatedly on here for years). Their other signings were Ryan Bertrand, who was a well known quantity in England, but in a difficult position at the best club in the league and Sadio Mane, a player who cost about 12 million pounds and who we were heavily linked too up until the end of August. Oh, and they spent 12 million pounds on Shane Long, but the less said about that, the better (note that in 8 of the last 10 transfer windows, we have not spent more than 8 million pounds on any single player, either). So this idea that Paul Mitchell is some kind of savant who picked out a bunch of players few had heard about for Southampton at bargain basement prices simply doesn't match what happened there.
The point is that most of those players at Southampton were nowhere near as inexperienced (or cheap) as Wimmer, Linetty, or Trippier on the big stage. Almost all of them from outside the UK had Europa or Champions League experience, too (or had played in big matches for their respective national teams). Hell, we had been heavily linked with several of them. Most of them were almost certainly not players plucked out of obscurity by the Paul Mitchell and presented to the manager. Does anyone really think Poch intimately knows much about Wimmer or Linetty? How many times has he seen Trippier play (twice, maybe three times)? If they were players from La Liga, like Hector Moreno or Luciano Vietto, then I'd say these are synergistic signings that could arguably be looked upon "at the instigation of Pochettino." As things are currently headed, I fear we are going to be in for a tough summer and be reliant on the same core of players to stay completely healthy in an ever increasingly difficult league with heightened expectations from supporters in Pochettino's second season.
Agree with what you say but we played Burnley 4 times. The fa cup tie went to a replay.I agree with your points on Southampton with Koeman knowing most of the players they signed. I guess I would make the same argument with Trippier too. We played Burnley thrice this season including the cup- would say that is enough to rate him as a player.
It looks as though Linetty & Wimmer has been extensively scouted since December 2014. Both were given the time to finish their respective seasons. Wimmer has been given a big thumps up by most Bundesliga pundits. In case of Linetty, he does bring in something unique to our midfield - him being two footed which we don't have.
I have no problems signing all these 3 & selling Chiriches, Paulinho & Capoue. The "experience" of these 3 did not bring much to the team performance.
With Cabaye - I see your point - good PL experienced player. But a player who has just played 900 minutes of league football last season - 400 minutes less than Kyle Walker played. He has been plagued with injuries & it has been confirmed by Laurent Blanc. In league, he has 1 game all season where he played whole 90 minutes
Question is - do we want a 29 year old for 15m who is unable to play 3 games in a row ?
