I agree with your general point here, however there is a difference in signing players ready to make a difference for Southampton and signing players ready to play for Tottenham. Our ambitions, rightly, should be far loftier than the Saints so I hope that the likes of Mitchell adjusts his standards accordingly and sign players that will contribute to a Top 4 challenge and not players to push for the top 8.Flash back to last summer.
Southampton sold, Chambers, Lovren, Shaw, Lallana and Lambert, amongst others. 5 of, if not the 5, best players they had. 4 of whom were, and still are the 4 biggest fees received. We also took their manager and entire backroom staff.
Fast forward 12 months, how did their reassembled squad fair? Not too bad actually. Their signings were very astute, and typically under the radar names.
The scouting staff did their due diligence so they were bought in for reasonable fees, to come in and be genuine instant difference making additions, not so much risky big name, big reputation, big money buys, who ultimately end up as mere squad fillers.
The point I'm trying to make here, the man rumoured to be largely responsible for those aquisitions, none other than a certain Paul Mitchell, who is now in the employment of our own beloved club, at the instigation of Pochettino. So I'm inclined to believe they are historically on the same wavelength, and as such, if they feel Linetty, or anyother lesser known players for that matter, would be positive signings for us, happy days. Crack on fellas.
