He doesn't seem to have the built for the EPL and I am pretty sure Poch & co. have spotted that. As I have stated before, Dier will need to play regularly this coming season to develop in the to top class CB we all hope he'll becoome. And, if Jan keep up with the way he ended the season I see now reason for buying more CB, as Fazio seem to have adjusted "somehow" to the EPL and Wimmer also need playing time. Then you got Veljkovic, who I prefer Spurs use as CM rather than CB (just an opinon).

Agree wholeheartedly about Dier - looks to be developing into a terrific player. Great acquisition by Spurs. And Vertonghen has reverted to his pre-Tim form. Worried that Fazio will cost us a few points if and when he gets to play. Wouldn't it be best to get rid of him now when he still has the appearance of being 'valuable'. Otherwise, next summer, we might be struggling to shift another player that hasn't worked out.

Actually, I wouldn't mind if they sold Fazio and bought a replacement - unless they think Ball is ready (I doubt it). But, Fazio's defense, he did play decent in the last few games of the season.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who has some belief in Fazio.

He did shape up somehow at the end of the season though. I think he's had a hard time adjusting to the pace and power of the EPL. And the guy seem to have passion and not afraid to get stuck in. I don't think he's such a bad back up CB really.

If he'd shown a capacity as a holding midfielder maybe, but otherwise I think his physical capabilities fall short of what's required in the centre half position in the PL, which is a shame because he is world class as a ball-playing defender.

I know we shouldn't take JJ's word as if it's a club statement, but find it hard to believe any story linking him to us now

A world class ball playing CB would be capable of playing in any country, surely, the problem is he's not world class.

I like Bartra, but even if we sell Vlad and Kab i don't see why we would buy him. He is not much better then what we have currently, yes he could raise his game a bit with regular first team football but we dont need another "good" defender. If really want another CB then we should be looking to get someone very good. But very good defenders would cost large amounts of money and most likely not wish to come to us. I would hope, now we have Trippier, our focus should be moving further up the field.

You're right sorry, that's a muddled description: he's world-class with the ball at his feet, for a defender.

I would rather have Fazio right now. I don't really understand the hate towards him. We need a bit of experience and he did form a good relationship with Verts.
Some people put too much emphasis on speed, like it's a game of FIFA.

Not only is Fazio slow (and he's REALLY slow) his decision-making is highly questionable. Have you noticed his passing? Apart from making passes that are intercepted he'll make a pass to a team-mate that will immediately put that player under pressure. So stats-wise it might look like he made a good pass but in reality that wouldn't be the case. Good partnership with Verts? Wasn't there an on-field incident where he and Vertonghen had a go at each other?

The Premier League is known as a League where speed is king. To keep this slow lug is asking for trouble.

Dier & Fazio, Vertonghen & Wimmer.
Would the club sanction a multi million £ outlay on a 5th CB?? This year we had Fazio, Dier, Vertonghen, Kaboul & Chiriches, but in truth, we've barely seen Kaboul since before Christmas, and Chiriches only really when we needed Dier to cover RB.
Rather than spend on someone like Batra, why not give Velkjovic the chance to cover as 5th CB.

You do know he had a successful tackle rate of 49% last season? The only tedious link with him is from Lyall who also works for sky sports. JJ has already said we have zero interest in him. He's nowhere near good enough.

Between Davies, Veljkovic, Stambouli, Dominic Ball, and CCV, we have more than enough players who could fill in at CB in a pinch. No more cover required.
