Agree with you but Mason and Bentaleb really don't offer much going forward either and Stambouli was a much better shield for the back 4 IMO.

Mason was the one that pushed us forward. Before he came into the team we'd pass it sideways and backwards.

True, but even so they were hardly the dynamic duo offensively. We still do pass it sideways and backwards a hell of a lot.

Levy is showing faith in poch. With pauly this will be a £10m hit with more to follow.

Hope he does the same with purchases also. We might get a ballanced team finally.

Watford itk saying deal done for both. £13.5m should be announced in the next couple of days.

Isn't it better this way? £26 million plus tons in wages freed up. The alternative as has always been was to play hard ball and waste the club's money and the players' careers.
Couldn't agree with you more. Gomes and Bentley are two prime examples.

That suites me just fine, a lot of talk about Levy taking a hit on some of the players moving out, its important to remember that these players were pushed out of the starting 11 to bleed players such as Bentaleb, Mason and Kane.

Imagine if these signings had performed to a higher standard and we simply moved Kane and Bentaleb on? Surely that is a much greater hit.

Sell 4 midfielders bring in a top one,(20 mill plus) sell Fazio chiriches and Kaboul, bring in alderwield. Sell Soldado and ade, being in reserve striker. Sell townsend, bring in someone to compete with lamela. Huge trimming of squad and wages

We all know we need to sell and get a smaller squad in order to buy.

Paulinho and Holtby were out of favour and we seem to have got a decent fee for them. Capoue is also massively out of favour and we appear to be recoupling most of the money we got for him.

Stambouli was a player I had some hopes for. A defensive mid who passed intellgently was a good fit for our needs. His interviews always showed a desire to improve and make a success of his time here.

But if he is deemed not good enough then fairwell, all the best.

I wonder if these sales are with the hopes of sealing a deal for an expensive player like Schneiderlin. Maybe Poch just thinks the young players like Bentaleb, Mason, Veljkovic are as good as those we're selling so no need to keep them.
I too had hopes for Stambouli but clearly Poch doesn't rate him. All the central midfielders must have been annoyed once Bentaleb and Mason became first choice. I'm pleased with our work in the transfer window so far. We've cut the dead wood and brought in Wimmer and Trippier. Bring in a couple more, maybe Alderwierald or McCarthy and above keep Lloris then it's just some support for Kane. I'm dreaming if I imagine we'll get big money for Chiriches, Kaboul or Soldado.

so lets see...we spend roughly 18-20 million for a pair of midfielders that are about Watford quality and sell them for roughly half in short order. someone in our scouting department isnt very bright.

Capoue cost £9.3 mil and Stambouli was £4.5. If we sell them for £13.5 mil then we're only losing 0.3 million - hardly a terrible loss. Even if we sell them for £10 million it's still much more than half what we paid.

I'm mostly with you there
Alderweireld in for Fazio (so the rumours say)
Rabiot (or similar) in plus Carroll returning, in place of Paulinho, Stambouli, Capoue
Pritchard returning and a LWF capable of playing CF, in place of Lennon and potentially Dembele
A new CF in place of Ade and Soldado

Happy days. Smaller squad but better balance. As you say, with more out than in, probably almost break even on fess, and definitely slash the wage bill.

Also, I found £10m for the pair a bit hard to believe since there was talk of £8/9m for Capoue on his own. The latest rumour of £13.5 seems a bit more credible.

Just can't see Tom Carroll featuring. Didn't see any progress while at Swansea or in the U 21s. Shame. He could probably play for Barca reserves but hasn't the physicality for EPL.

Oh, OFC. But 'didn't offer much going forward'?

No, not really. Compared our competitors I think our CMs are both pretty static. They are mainly recyclers but I don't see much from them in the final 3rd. Very few goals, very few attempts on target and very few telling passes.

If you are going to play Eriksen, Chadli and sometimes Townsend then your CMs can't do much more than work their balls off to avoid the team being overrun.
