Will train with the first team at some point this year as well as U21's.

Not leaving been told he wants to stay, best training facilities in the UK and loves the fact Poch watches him train and talks to him and says he is a fan of the way he plays, also family love the club.

I think first years can be fast tracked once they have settled into full time training especially the talented ones. Maghoma, CCV, Onomah, Azzaoui all featured for the u21s as first years and have looked good. It's just a matter of dealing with the size as a youngster
don't think Edwards will have any problems with his size playing u18s next year he may do thought against the u21s which is why he will need

I too think Edwards has the ability but that's all that it is at the moment - as he made his way into the team last season his impact wasn't immediate with one game being the exception when he came of the bench and gave a cameo performance and it was very exciting to watch. Its going to be a learning curve for him U16 football is pretty much non contact and it takes most of them some time to find their feet as they progress. I would say judging by his performances last year he needs to establish himself with the 18's before moving up. Of the other players mentioned with the exception of Azzaoiu they all played for the 18's as schoolboys so were a year ahead of schedule and certainly with the likes of CCV and Maghoma had the physical presence to progress early. I am not saying Marcus won't tear up the U18's League in I rather hope he does I am looking forward to watching him and a few of the other first years which is part of the fun of youth football - but it won't be a disaster if he doesn't as long as there is progression in his game. Pushing him up the ranks can be detrimental and from the little we have all seen of him he has great potential but an awful lot to learn

I agree about Goddard he is a nice player and had a decent first season but the injury did set him back and he struggled to win back a place in the team then when he did play he struggled to make an impact. Size wise there are similarities and even playing style there are some similarities to Edwards though Marcus would seem to want to take on players more but it was promising that Ehiogu praised Cy after the Rangers game

He's clearly better than his current age group, I think he will get some U21s games and we will see how he gets along. He looks to be getting a touch stronger, although the toughness (in terms of tackling, attitude, etc) is something I think he would struggle with. Playing against bigger players is something he will just have to get used to, but you don't see players at that age trying to kick a player out of the game, defenders going right through/over attackers, and I think we will be very careful about exposing him to that

Yet another player/prospect citing poch as a main reason for wanting to stay.

We should integrate him into the first team this season, maybe a couple of league cup or europa appearances even if off the bench

If they good enough they old enough, Rooney was playing regularly at Everton at 16
That mentality shortened Michael Owen's career.

Two chaps on FTL also saying that he won't be going anywhere. Both know his family.

It doesn't matter how many times I see it from people claiming to have inside scoops, it's all the more reassuring each time.

I fear the war for top youth prospects is only just beginning to flare up, as more money is getting pumped into the game, homegrowns are becoming all the more valuable with increasing regulations, and these kids getting better and better at their respective age groups due to sheer competition as well as improved training techniques. These articles about City and Chelsea hovering over our most promising youth seems as if it's unfortunately only the calm before the storm.

Agree, but whilst we have a clearer path for youth to make it to the first team - we can still hold an edge on them in this department

You talking about the Man City game if so he started that, though I agree his impact at u18s wasn't what you'd expect but that was because he only got a few minutes here and there. I see your point though, but I think Edwards is like Azzaoui and he may get barged off but he is tricky enough to slip em. We shouldn't rush him granted, but with his talent we need to show we have his future in mind, which from latest ITK seems we are doing getting him to train with the first team.

I hoep Goddard has a good season in u21s this year, with it likely Onomah and Winks will go on loan he will be getting a lot of game time. He is the most two footed player in the academy and has serious ability, hopefully he will impress enough to get a loan

I don't remember which game but I pretty sure he came on as a sub but I could easily be wrong he also scored at Brighton.

I think the point is that yes he is promising and he has the sort of game that's very eye catching but at the moment it will take him time to adjust and I think the few appearances at the end of last season should serve as a reminder of that.

I think as ever it will be really interesting as to how the u18's line up and how Marcus is used in the side. Of the second years I would expect Azzoui to be fast streamed up and not used much in the 18s same as CCV and Maghoma. Glover will be the number 1 keeper and Muscatt encamped at left back I assume the rest of the back 4 are likely to be first years unless Paul plays in one of the roles and he was progressing at a rate of knots last season after a less than impressive start but seemed better in midfield imo - Owen and Styliandes are likely to form the central midfield and that only leaves Daly who may be converted to a right back Hayford who has hardly played and Lofty who could be used as the battering ram up front with Edwards and Sterling as wide forwards time - will tell but it should be interesting especially as the basis of the side are likely to b first years and that may take time to bed in

Any further news in this one wpd659? Would love this guy to sign a pro-contract. He plays like a young messi or maradonna with an afro.
