I think you're right.

It seems clear that we don't have anything imminent lined up in those three positions, one of which (CM) is absolutely crucial to our first team. I would now be very surprised if we see any new signings in the squad for United other than Trippier and Alderweireld.

It's disappointing but not altogether surprising both in terms of our financial position, and our chairman's reluctance to risk that financial position. It's not categorically the wrong way to approach things, but from a purely football perspective it will make it quite tricky in our first few games if we don't at least have a new CM.

As for the ITK, I think the areas they've highlighted (CM, WF, STR) are the right areas to be looking in. And I'm assuming the 'at least 3 out' are Adebayor, Lennon and Chiriches, with Townsend, Carroll and Soldado presumably also up for sale.

Either way it's starting to look more like the deadline day sort of window than the 'sort it out early' window we were perhaps naively hoping for.

But until that window slams shut, I think it's unwise for any of us to be overly worried/critical.

I've rarely seen the window slam shut. Usually it just fades out with nary a whimper.

Ali Z:
Lennon has made his bed, he won't be part of the first team, not exactly many suitors for him west ham were keen but put off by his wage demands.

on werner:Him and Kramer were both being looked at but not sure we will get either.

There's some info in the Werner thread. Arguably it should be in here but it's not a regular ITK;

What's the situation with this, Mods? I know there has been ITK from the likes of Jerome r.e Onomah's contract in here previously.

So I took a look at this. Nobody on SO is responding to him really. Two people replied (neither were negative). But Swedishspur has been around since 2009 and always been a good poster. I don't remember him trying this before, so it seems like he is being sincere. But we can't consider it ITK as SO ITK is granted by one of two guys (Paul being one) and neither has backed him yet. So it is probably more suited to Werner thread at the moment but it's well worth discussing there as I bet there is something in play here.

Very concerning we arent even trying to improve the first team. Which is something we need the most. Business is about spending money and taking risks to make money, and about keeping your best assets. The top companies in the world didnt make it to the top by being frugal, non risk taking schmucks. Being a good businessman is not 100% about keeping something well run. It's also about improving your company every year. We may be well run and financially stable, but that doesnt win us anything. Having good infrastructure also doesnt mean anything if your unwilling to improve beyond any potential future revenues from a minimum of 5 years down the road.

I really could care less about n'jie and the like. Those are for the future. There's nothing that improves this team immediately.

I hate it when America wakes up and you come online.

How is this spam? @flamsteadspur - you need to get outside. Let the mods moderate the thread, there's no place on this forum for your brand of vigilante justice. Wrong-doers will be apprehended, by @Archibald&Crooks and the other mods.

Personally (as per the ITK @flamsteadspur you trigger-happy sob), I'd be quite sad to see Lennon go, he's been here for ages and was one of my favourite players in his first few years with us, but if he's a disruptive influence we have to get rid - especially when he hasn't offered much on the pitch for us lately.

Never really seen Kramer conscious on a football pitch so don't know if he's any good, Werner looks good from the little I've seen - he seems the more realistic of the two.

Whenever I think of Bolasie I think of those giraffe toys which when you press the button at the bottom they collapse in a heap.

Haven't really seen enough of him, but I suppose he's in the same category of potential signing as moses, in that he'd be brought in as a versatile squad option rather than a starter.

Would much rather we took a punt on Werner, failing that Njie, than Bolasie.

And the money they would want for Bolasie, just can't see us being that interested.

Beharino and one of Werner/Njie would be much more preferable IMO.

imo the MC pos is more important than the ST/WF pos. we definitely need a bonafide starting MC, so i would prefer us not to limit ourselves to UK for this one. if the kramer interest is real that would be great news. tbh if JM cost 25, there are other players out there that cost in that region as well such as krychowiak. either one of berahino or werner would be spectacular..i don't think bolasie is shit but i don't think he's gonna improve us much
