I think I'd cry if we bought Bolasie. He's the definition of a MOTD player. Can look pretty decent in a 45 second highlight package when they show the 1/68 successful take ons. I'd rather play with 10 men than 11 with Bolasie.

N'Jie expected to sign a new deal at Lyon, we are being used again!

I think a deal structured between £15-20m for Berahino is acceptable in this market based on his nationality and age, and also the fact he shouldn't be on crazy wages.
and the itk saying Poch wants players with proven PL experiance

I really hope that we can continue to produce home grown talent so we can spend our money better on the continent, rather than paying the premium that is on English players.

The inflated market applies to everyone. There's not a shot in hell we're getting Beharino for 15 million or under.

He's young, English and has bags of talent. I'm not saying we should be held to ransom either but we have to be realistic as well.

This is what I dont fully understand. It seems we will have to pay around £20 mill for McCarthy, and MS was what? £25 mill? Surely getting the man Poch wanted would have been Worth those extra few mill?

But if that's what Everton wants and if we agree to that figure then surely McCarthy would likely be a Spurs player by now. I don't think that we are, at this point of time when there is still ample time before the TW closes, willing to pay that amount for McCarthy, so the diff between what we are willing to spend on him and MS's rumored asking price may be more that 5m.

I am sure others can elaborate but wasn't there a match last season where at half-time Poch had a go at Lennon for not doing what he had been told. To which Lennon got angry and defended his peformance only for Poch to bring out the Opta stats and prove him wrong.

Something like that....

Yeah, I remember reading that, but that alone can't be the reason Lennons bridges are burned, can it?

I don't think McCarthy brings enough to warrant the chase. I'd rather stick with what we've got.

Im not sure about that we do have some potentially young great players but they havent done it at the top level yet like ali, pritchard etc.
We do need a slightly more experienced body in there just to keep things on an even keel.

Just like Kane last year....out played the experienced soldadoand ade.
Just like bentaleb and mason showing paulinho, capoue, and stambouli who was better.

Experience is fine, if we have players we can get that fits into the system we want to play and is better than what we have, if not then youth players are fine. These days with the amount of games, loans, tournaments and international games at lower ages, they have more experience than a player 10 or more years ago at the same age.

Lol... Looks like we are the unrealistic ones tbh with the current TV money. Let's just focus to bring the best out of the young players and be patience till the stadium is paid off...... That's like 2025. So signings will likely be no more than 15m.

Look Im with you all the way regarding our great young players i cant wait until they reach maturity and what a team we will have probably 60-70% HG.
But during a long season nearly every team hits a rough patch and that where experience tells guiding them through difficult patches.

I thought there was something mentioned the other day about us thinking we could get McCarthy for less than what was being reported which backs up what was said upthread.

Something about there being a reason why we thought that but not what that reason was, if that makes sense.

Probably due to how long he has left on his contract though I could be wrong.

We don't spend big money on the continent though. I'd prefer us to spend big on proven premier league talent and small on European maybes.

Don't disagree at all, but does James McCarthy really tick that box? I'd argue that Bentaleb even in his youth has more experience than McCarthy. He's played at a World Cup and African Cup of Nations, and he's played in a cup final.

I just don't see McCarthy bringing an upgrade on Mason or Bentaleb in terms of talent/potential, or bringing the warranted experience to make him worthwhile.

20 million on Bolasie or 20 million towards getting McCarthy? Toughie.

It would be totally bewildering if we were prepared to spend big on Bolasie but not McCarthy.

I'm not saying spend big on the continent. But £20m on the continent goes a lot further than £20m on a Brit in the PL.

It works two ways as it means we can also sell English players at a premium
