he did reasonably well but i think fans are easily influenced by commentators.

I think he played well but I think so did Onomah and Winks, they all just looked comfortable. They were all impressive performances I guess, just think his has been blown up massively. I actually think Carroll created more chances.

Seems like this should all go in the amnesty thread

I'll most likely get shot down, but I didn't think he stood out among our midfielders in the 2nd half. They all played well and looked comfortable, I think people are building up something that wasn't there, I'm sure he'll be a good player but I think the hype is a little premature from that performance.

I think it's his style of play that won me over. In our third it was simple, possession football, in the middle a mixture of longer range passing with some driving runs, whilst in the opposition third some penetrative passes and forceful runs into the box.
Not only does he show physicality, pace, and a range of passing but genuine intelligence.
He looks like a complete all-round player.

He already looks like the player I always thought Jenas or Paulinho would become and at 19 in his first appearances I think that is a serious case for justifying the hype.

Don't get me wrong I think he played well, but I don't think he was spraying it no different to Winks or Carroll just long passes across the field. Wimmer played 2 of the best long passes of the match for me. Also Winks, Onomah and Carroll showed some driving runs, carrying the ball and good link up play.

I liked that he tried to run into the box but he got tackled and nothing came of it. He did keep things simple and looked like he will be a good player but I am just saying I don't think he stood out among our other CMs. I think people were looking for him to stand out. This isn't even a criticism and again I think he will be good and he played well, I just think we are over hyping a performance.

I completely forgot about alli in all honesty so seeing him play so well was great.Toby and trippier were the ones I was really interested in seeing and they didn't disappoint.

Agree with a lot of the above. Looks a total natural and has a very impressive maturity and composure about him.

He's ready, I reckon. What impressed me was his passing actually. I knew he had good physical presence, a good engine and drive etc, but he was more technically accomplished that I was expecting.

£5m looks a snip IMO

If given the chance to start regularly, he'll be worth 15 million by Christmas.

Maybe it was down to me looking at Alli more than the others so noticing his performance more.
Having seen a fair bit of Carroll, Winks, and Onomah (and already believing all 3 could feature in our squad) I was mainly focusing on seeing what Alli could produce and he looked like a player who had been playing for us a lot longer than a few weeks.

But my main concern was him being more developed physically than his peers which may have been the reason for him standing out at an earlier age.
The MLS game made me think that his technical ability and intelligence was not in question, and although not necessarily superior to Carroll, Winks, and Onomah, combined with his physical presence means he is a genuine all-round midfielder.
Last year we had no back up to Mason and Bentaleb whereas I think this year Alli could feature as 3rd/4th choice (depending on if we bring another CM in).

Very promising.

I've said it a few times elsewhere, but I really don't get the clamour for another central midfielder. Mason, Bentaleb, Alli, and Winks excites me. Dumbbell is an option too, but I think he's likely to play in the three rather than the two.

It's fine to be excited by prospects and it's important to give them opportunities but if we don't bring in a proven top league midfielder and these guys fail to make the step up from League 1/youth football, we're suddenly in massive trouble with only a couple of senior midfielders in the side.

For me talent is talent. I believe that there is just as much risk of a talented young player failing as a player bought from from abroad.

Last season we had proven top league players who couldn't make the step in the PL and we were in trouble luckily the young players saw us through.

I believe there is just as much risk in buying someone like Veretout as there would be trying Onomah

The boy looks seriously like a good signing.

Makes you wonder how many other good youngsters there are at lower division clubs not being given a chance in the premier league because teams keep on looking abroad.
