Very excited to watch this young lad till the end of the season.
Dumb question, but I legitimately don't know anything about him: Everything is saying he's an AM, and that he picked us because Poch had him in his plans for next season... is he a #10? and if so won't that be in conflict with Eriksen? Does he play on the wings at all?
No - he can play there but from what I've seen and heard he looks more like a CM
Question from me - does anyone have a sense of how quick he is? Looks quite quick, was just wondering if anyone had seen first hand?
You spelt his name wrong- it is 'Dele Alli', not 'Delle Alli'.
Think Toure (as a very broad comparison in terms of the role he plays). CM that gets forward to support the attack.
So we got this new feller.
Who: The Goat
When: 3rd February
Hearing today we beat Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Villa to sign him this month. A few more clubs would have been in for him come the summer but had other fish to fry this January. We have a very different set up now, we are better with youngsters coming through. Been told he was very impressed with the training ground and will be in Pochs plans for next year which was one of the reasons he chose us.
The bolded in particular is most intriguing. It seems most, including myself, suspected he'd probably go right back out on loan next season but this would contradict that. Look forward to seeing more from this boy, and seeing what he has to offer our midfield which IMO is still struggling for a bit of consistency despite our great numbers.
Would love to have Bentaleb, Mason, Stambouli, Carroll & Delli as our CM options next year
I'd be delighted with that, and I hope that is the direction we're taking.
Reserving judgement. Not everyone can cut it in the Prem. What i've seen of him, he will be highly spoke of in a few years if he doesn't turn out to be one of these injury plagued players.
Still need a wise old head in there too. Maybe Milner?
Anyone know what type of player he is?
In his interview, he described himself as a "more technical box to box midfielder," and has previously said that he thought of himself as "something in between Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure."
Yaya? He doesn't look that big unless the picture of him is misleading.
They're the same height according to Wikipedia. He'll obviously need to pack on mass, but there's still a lot of time for him to do that.
6ft 2in who is 18 years old. 19 in April still time to grow abit and will get stronger.
I think people should stop comparing him to other players. He is Dele Alli , a creative CM who comes deep to get the ball and good balance and a great athlete.
Every source I've seen says he's 6'2", but I have to agree from the videos I've seen of him I think that seems generous. Not particularly concerned myself with height in the middle though, as we need more athleticism rather than size and from the highlights he does seem quite dynamic and agile despite his height.
Of course I'd like him to be Alli MkI rather than anybody MkII. I was only responding to what he himself likening himself to Toure and Gerrard.
You literally just described Onomah whom imo is better than dele and better than Bentaleb at the same age
Well 2 players both to compete with each other can only be a good thing IMO.
From the sounds of it though Alli is a CM whereas Onomah is a AM. So the real competition is between Winks and Alli
