All the indications from ITK are that Berahino is happening and signs are also that N'Jie is also getting closer. I think it's both. We really need pace up front so no point signing one pacy player for the season. We are crying our for a CM to add to our young players in this position as shown by playing Dier there.
So I still think it's three players in before the window closes.

Wasn't there ITK last week that said Berahino wants to come, but that his agent is holding out for offers from bigger teams? we could have agreed a deal, had first part of medical, then the agent had second thoughts

Could be it couldn't it. I think a good indication of how close it is, is if he plays Monday or not.

I feel Levy wants to show faith and back him though, I think all this is mainly due to Levy preferring to work late in the window to get value.
I hope you're right.

Edit : it's not I hope you're right I'm sure you are, I'm more worried about being able to get the deals done

That never really strung true to me as all the most positive ITK was coming from those linked to agents and they were pretty strong about saying Berahino was coming here.

In fact I think it was more WBA looking for a bigger offer than it was Berahino and his people.

You think that's the only reason? You have to remember we are looking at second tier players generally with the potential to be top tier. as such they still have a possibility of attracting interest from top tier teams. You can't blame selling clubs or the players themselves for waiting to assess their options on who they sell to/sign for. In the Berahino case alone City have shown an interest, so West Brom are obviously going to make sure they only sell when the feel they will get the maximum possible return for him. They will need to ensure that either A, City are no longer interested or B, the player has declared he will only go to one club.

Would go down as a distinctly average bordering on poor window for me in that case. Would leave us light again in key areas.

Close but no close enough.

I remain positive that we'll get it right in this window.

Is was in reponse to @Original # 10 post that Berahino will be the only one in.

Maybe we wanted a look at Berahino's knee injury from the summer to ensure there was no long term damage. Might not be worth continuing if that was the case...

That's all irrelevant now though isn't it? Hopefully....

I don't think Levy wants to do business late in the window he just knows that is sometimes necessary and all part of transfer business. There's no point finishing your business early if you don't get the best targets.

Perhaps on this one, but the general point still stands. The thought that Levy waits until the last minuet purely to get bargains is just rubbish imo. A lot of players won't be sold last minute, because clubs won't deal without getting in replacements. IMO the reason we are hearing this news on Berahino is because he has made the decision he is coming here and City are perusing other avenues. If we were to wait until the end of the window, West Brom might not have been able to get Rondon in, and he might not have been available. Deals get done when a whole list of criteria are met, sometimes that means having to wait till the death sometimes it can be done early.

Thanks for all the continuing info on deals Trix. Although a few bits are common sense, filling in the gaps with your info has really helped. Now let's hope Saido gets done early in the week and can play a part against Stoke next weekend...!

I know which day it was likely Saido did his medical but I guess that's not important. Great to hear it's getting closer.

Bringing in a player takes a lot of work. If you buy too early it gives any competing clubs a good idea of what it would take to steal that player away from under your nose. Buying close to the end of the window, or on deadline day, stops that scenario from playing out to some extent. However, that limits choice and results in the very real possibility that you'll come away with nothing. It's a proper dilemma, but sometimes you've got to bite the bullet and do what needs doing/take a chance rather than always taking the less expensive route. I think that's what I find increasingly frustrating.

I agree with that rather than value, maybe opportunity would have been a better word for me to use. No doubt Levy is trying to do what is best for the club in my mind.

Been ages since we had some proper 'medical' ITK. It's my second favourite after 'airport' ITK. I have a vague recollection that we had some inside info when Sigurdsson signed a few years back but can't remember any since.

All eyes on the clinic rooms and MRI scanners of London next week please folks.
