Can't help feel certain people on here massively overstated shifting a bit of deadwood; lauding it as 'the best window ever'

At this very moment in time, it's nothing short of an absolute failure (I recognise there is time left and am willing to hold out some hope)

Currently, we have one senior striker; with the other two seemingly been ostracised.

Furthermore, we still lack pace and incisiveness and those linked to us would go some way to fixing that (especially Berahino).

What worries me though is reports, ITK and quotes from the horse's mouth (Poch) seem to all point to attacking targets being the (only?) priority.

I'd love to know who has been identified in the squad as the main stay midfield partnership... Because theoretically combining anyone we currently have, I still see us on the receiving end of a fair few thrashings this coming season.

N'jie seems to be the only target that is somewhat near and I have my reservations about him - Would anyone really feel comfortable with him leading the line in the scenario of a HK injury.

It does all feel very much after the initial optimism and 'new approach' it'll be another last minute dash.

That's all well and good, as I know many clubs do business (for an unbeknown reason) right at the end... I just wish we would find an equilibrium between chasing the unobtainable and snapping up basement bargain dross.

So in short, let's give it up with Bender, all the signs are pointing to it not being a goer... But by the same token let's not go sign some bang average midfielder for the sake of doing so.

For what it's worth, Berahino, N'jie and *insert midfield option* sounds a very good window.

Scary thing is, there really isn't any obvious midfield options that spring to mind (at least for me, the average football fan)... Time for certain personnel at Spurs to earn their bread me thinks.

Although there is still plenty of time left I do agree with the majority of this. I was very optimistic given the speed we've been shifting some out the door, because I thought that would speed up our key incoming business. By key I mean addressing our attacking options (more pace and better movement etc) and another CM, hopefully experienced to guide this very young core group of players.

I understand that we work off a list of targets for each position we want to address, and it always involves satisfying three parties etc and that can take time but it just feels feels like its all heading towards the final week of the window, probably the last couple of days.

Other Clubs, below us, have brought in key signings well in advance of the start of the season. I know we got Trippier, Wimmer and TA done and that's very positive for addressing the defensive issues but only TA is what I'd call a key signing out of that lot - ie straight into the team.

I know we can't just throw money at a Selling Club in the first instance to get deals done earlier but surely we can get some key additions in before deadline day.

Based on nothing whatsoever

You're right. But then everyone else assuming he will play tomorrow is based on nothing whatsoever either. The only way we will find out for sure, is tomorrow evening around 7pm. Everything else is pure conjecture. So my hunch has no less validity than anyone else's who says he will play based on an instagram photo

It might have something to do with Berahino saying he's looking forward to playing tomorrow.

So what's the point of assuming we have fucked up until we get there?

It's a terrible way to live your life, getting angry about things that do not happen. I'm all for people getting angry after the event and people may even have valid reasons - but they don't while things are still capable of being worked on.
Fair point, but I do think it's fair for people to be frustrated (albeit not totally apoplectic) that as we played our first game of the season we only had one striker in the matchday squad, and that our options for changing our attacking play from the bench were limited at best.

Obviously, as per the info from JJ and others, things are still being worked on and we may well see the necessary reinforcements join by the end of the window. But the striker situation we currently have is unarguably not acceptable at the moment, and we've played our first game (and who knows how many more) in a position where it's Kane-or-nobody. That - to me - is nowhere near good enough, so I feel that people should be cut a little slack when they get impatient for us to sign a forward or two to spread the goalscoring burden in our squad at a time where we are playing competitive matches with league points at stake.

For all you know he may have been advised to do that so as to make out he has acted professionally the whole way through the saga, so he doesn't leave on a bad note. I'm not saying he won't play tomorrow, but I just have a feeling he won't play.

I'm sure it won't be long before Poch comes out in a media conference stating how happy he is with the squad and doesn't expect any further additions...

We might get both ....
Think many of us expected these two at a minimum.. 'we might get both' hardly sounds like they're both signing on the dotted line any time soon.

Personally, I'd take just Berahino if it meant we could go and sign a real top midfielder.

Ending up with just N'jie for instance (which seems atm the most likely scenario) - would be thoroughly underwhelming.

When did we get the scout's update Berahino to be announced 100% in next few days? I took that as roughly 2-3 days.

Doesn't seem imminent but key pointer will be if he plays tomorrow.

Ghostofarmo: Berahino to be announced next few days..

100%

Dont discuss my source thanks guys.

Think we got this on Friday (but could be wrong). I'm not sure there is a definition of 'a few' but a 'couple' is one or two so 'a few' is more than that so could be any time next week

But as other itk has said, WBA could be holding out to see if another club comes in with lots od cash...so the 'fewt' could get stretched - remember Shakespear's Henry the 5th speech 'we lucky few' referring to an army of a few hundred...

I forgot the transfer window was closed
Congratulations on completely missing the part of my post, and also @EnfieldYiddo post where he mentioned the failure being at the moment. I even highlighted the word because I knew you'd bang on about the window not being closed. I'll capitalise it for you so you don't miss it this time, but at the MOMENT it is a failure because we haven't addressed the glaringly obvious need for attacking options and I don't believe we're actually as close to SB or N'jie as ITK is hinting at. There is nothing in the media that suggests they are that close and as usual we're left scrambling after the season starts

A&C may as well delete the transfer thread, as everyone seems to think we'll never sign anyone ever again....
And yet we've already played our first game with one striker available to us. Chap, if you're not getting why some people are frustrated by that situation then there's no explaining it to you at all.

Agreed.

N'jie should be an 'in addition to' signing alongside somebody who's going to be more or less a first team regular from the outset - be that Berahino or another source (unlikely granted).
