Ah, Spurger 'glass...what glass??' King.

:p

Hey I'm optimistic that we'll bring in who we need. However, you can't deny that with the exception of Alli our transfer business under Pochettino has so far been 'rebuild the defence', and 'rebuild the rebuilt defence'.

Yeeees, but the rebuilding of the defense was a defensive move to deflect offensive offensiveness at the ...ah forget it.

Yahtzee?

I've still got all the dice(?). :coffee:

Even Poch said that he expects some movement in the next couple of days. I'm positive we'll sign someone this week but other signings will drag on longer. Just my guess.

Congratulations on completely missing the part of my post, and also @EnfieldYiddo post where he mentioned the failure being at the moment. I even highlighted the word because I knew you'd bang on about the window not being closed. I'll capitalise it for you so you don't miss it this time, but at the MOMENT it is a failure because we haven't addressed the glaringly obvious need for attacking options and I don't believe we're actually as close to SB or N'jie as ITK is hinting at. There is nothing in the media that suggests they are that close and as usual we're left scrambling after the season starts

Congratulations on completely missing the point for the 2nd time.

In the timeline of
1. "getting money"
2. "having money" and
3. "spending money"

it's important not to start kicking off before step 3 and acting like the world is over, just because Daniel doesn't involve the Daily Mail in his transfer conference calls

We've sold/released players so that we can afford to provide the best options for signing new ones (i.e. wages). We can't control what happens with the other team - it's obvious that IF WBA are going to sell SB, it won't be until they get their new striker.

Why should we expect another team to cock their own games up when we're the ones who want something they have? Spending £30m (or whatever obscene amount) on a lad with very little experience just to get him a game earlier (and no doubt start the first match on the bench) is ridiculous.

We can only sign players IF and WHEN their associated teams decide. Unless you want Saha back, with Joey Barton in DM

Nah I think it's just realism setting in

Well lets see what happens this week before overreacting.

I genuinely thought Berahino would advance quickly now - given the ITK, the way Pulis has been talking, and their imminent signing from Zenit. It was all looking very good until that tweet earlier.

And yet we've already played our first game with one striker available to us. Chap, if you're not getting why some people are frustrated by that situation then there's no explaining it to you at all.

We played all last season with one striker, especially as you refuse to acknowledge Soldado as anything but detrimental to us. There's a reason why the window doesn't end before the first game, and if you can't understand that then there's no explaining it to you either.

Can't help feel certain people on here massively overstated shifting a bit of deadwood; lauding it as 'the best window ever'

At this very moment in time, it's nothing short of an absolute failure (I recognise there is time left and am willing to hold out some hope)

Currently, we have one senior striker; with the other two seemingly been ostracised.

Furthermore, we still lack pace and incisiveness and those linked to us would go some way to fixing that (especially Berahino).

What worries me though is reports, ITK and quotes from the horse's mouth (Poch) seem to all point to attacking targets being the (only?) priority.

I'd love to know who has been identified in the squad as the main stay midfield partnership... Because theoretically combining anyone we currently have, I still see us on the receiving end of a fair few thrashings this coming season.

N'jie seems to be the only target that is somewhat near and I have my reservations about him - Would anyone really feel comfortable with him leading the line in the scenario of a HK injury.

It does all feel very much after the initial optimism and 'new approach' it'll be another last minute dash.

That's all well and good, as I know many clubs do business (for an unbeknown reason) right at the end... I just wish we would find an equilibrium between chasing the unobtainable and snapping up basement bargain dross.

So in short, let's give it up with Bender, all the signs are pointing to it not being a goer... But by the same token let's not go sign some bang average midfielder for the sake of doing so.

For what it's worth, Berahino, N'jie and *insert midfield option* sounds a very good window.

Scary thing is, there really isn't any obvious midfield options that spring to mind (at least for me, the average football fan)... Time for certain personnel at Spurs to earn their bread me thinks.
Everything above

Yeah the unnamed CM is gonna be a Real Madrid player we've never been linked with. It's not like levy would settle for some cheap, £5m player nobody has ever heard after missing out on all of our previous midfield targets

I'm sure it won't be long before Poch comes out in a media conference stating how happy he is with the squad and doesn't expect any further additions...
I can actually see the interview. Where he desperately tries to keep it together whilst wearing his 5 o'clock shadow at 9am, bags under his bloodshot eyes from all the night time tequila drinking and desperate courting of Charlie Austin down the local Shepherd's Bush strip club.

I was frustrated by that ludicrous state of affairs last season, and I continue to be frustrated by it now. Aside from Kane we've got one striker who can't score (Soldado) and one striker who can score but we choose not to play (Adebayor). Given that we've made an active choice to exclude Adebayor (which may be a prudent choice, but regardless, we're choosing not to play him) then I was and am frustrated by the fact that we've got no bugger else to help Kane out. The fact that we still have until the end of the month to improve things doesn't change the fact that it was a shit-show last season, and so far this summer / start of the new season it's still a shit-show.

I'm happy for you if you're all karmically cool with that state of affairs, but I'm not.

i am amazed that any of you thought it would be different. every june it's "lessons have been learned", every july it's "deals proving difficult", every august "clubs dragging feet", every september it's "we tried"

Really don't need to say any more.

It's been playing out like this for so many years it's hard to believe it'll be any different this time.

I really do hope it is though.

I'm happy, because this exact scenario was one which gave us Kane in the first place.

It's not like we're playing Mason up front because we don't have a player, we're just missing options that may or may not contribute any better than the ones we already have.

If MP was really that concerned, he'd be throwing the likes of Chadli or Coulthirst up front. He must know there's something on the horizon to cover our shortfalls.

There's something so fragile, innocent and pure about that post, nedley.

Cuts right through the chronic scepticism in here.

Fair point, but I do think it's fair for people to be frustrated (albeit not totally apoplectic) that as we played our first game of the season we only had one striker in the matchday squad, and that our options for changing our attacking play from the bench were limited at best.

Obviously, as per the info from JJ and others, things are still being worked on and we may well see the necessary reinforcements join by the end of the window. But the striker situation we currently have is unarguably not acceptable at the moment, and we've played our first game (and who knows how many more) in a position where it's Kane-or-nobody. That - to me - is nowhere near good enough, so I feel that people should be cut a little slack when they get impatient for us to sign a forward or two to spread the goalscoring burden in our squad at a time where we are playing competitive matches with league points at stake.

But what is the solution? Just get anyone in?

It's the same argument over and over again and it seems that no-one ever seems to quite grasp it! And I wish it was me being dense (but it's not). You and I want Player X as he improves us. Now if Player X can't be done (for whatever reason, i.e. Player or selling club is not ready yet) then do you just get someone else in instead?

Not for me you don't. There's a reason that these deals haven't all been tied up. Every pound counts when it's not backed up flowing oil fields or exploding vodka factories. So the thing that gets trotted out (not necessarily by you) is that Levy should just pay up. Which is not a fair criticism given our means.

So I don't know what the answer is for some of you. "Just get them in" ... don't you think they all want to too?
