We were fantastic for 75 minutes... crap for 15.

It's to be expected with such a young team.

They will improve quickly. It's not the end of the world. There was so much good play from us in that game. It was a bit of a freak result in the end. Stoke didn't deserve it. They got lucky, we got sloppy. I don't think it was a pen.

Also, everyone. It's the 15th of August. We'll be alright. I'm happy a result like this happened early on. It means at least the players can learn. They're mostly kids.

Anyone know why Kane was brought off and we were without a striker for 30 mins?

The team were disappointing but so were the supporters. Shit atmosphere for most of the game and then booing the team off at the first home game of the season? FFS.

when kane went off we lost possibly our best player today with his vision and movement, lamela coming on has been a joke, could he have been any more inept

As a very big Poch fan, that one is on him. Obviously we can't blame him for brain farts such as the pen, but taking off a striker without having one to come on just changed the flow of the match and the ability for us to be assertive or progressive. The subs, Lamela and Bentaleb, didn't play poorly particularly in comparison with Kane or anyone else (despite what those who dislike them will say) but the complete lack of tenacity going forward bought about because of the change was a huge reason they came on to us.

Anyways on my way back and on to the next one.

Ps, out fans were poor and some of the stuff I heard was idiotic
Serious question... what will it take until you finally admit you are wrong about Lamela?

Lad, so many people still try to defend him and whenever anyone makes some comment like yours, neg rep flies in. It makes me laugh, people can't see it. He isn't good enough. It's so clear to see...

I def think he has some talent, just feel not suited to the premiership, same with Soldado. Time to cut our losses and get someone I who is. 3 seasons now .. We don't have time to see if he'll come good and we can get a good few still from Italy and take a sell on clause out.

He had an ice pack on his calf when he went off so perhaps a strain - hopefully nothing too serious.

On that performance he's struggle in Hackney marshes.

He was so terrible. The reason why Ireland was getting into the game so much was because Lamela was not contributing defensively in that area, did not bring any attacking threat - he cant hold the ball up, he cant dribble and every single pass of his is misplaced - and for some reason was fouling every time he got close to one of their players.

Its awful - he has shown no signs of improvement at all. A very expensive failure.

Yeah so it's all Lamela's fault. Ffs. He came on when we were already playing shit, and Stoke were on top. If he was starting in place of dembele who did very little, would we he really have done worse. Yes he was poor like most in that half, but the result isn't his fucking fault. Get a grip guys.

The reason we lost is because we have started a season with vital parts of our squad missing. Very light in CM, up front and on the wings. Nice bank balance from our deadwood though.

That lets Poch off far too easily. The main problem is he is wedded to one approach absolutely.

Yeah we don't have an abundance of wide options, but it was hardly a radical idea to put on a Rose/Trippier or both and so that meant we had pace and defensively would have been stronger out wide where the threat was coming from.

But no, 4-2-4 with free roles galore until the bitter end with Poch.

Can someone answer me this..

We were very good with a right footed right winger and a let footed left winger a few years back. WHY do we use inverted winger's. It slow's down our play. It is not the tottenham way at all. Sick of it

5 points dropped from 2 games we could and should have easily have one. What will that cost at the end of the season. The lack of ambition that runs through this club is pathetic and sadly Poch is showing himself to be nothing more than Levy's puppet. Any decent manager worth their salt wouldn't put up with starting the season with a squad with such obvious weaknesses. Every point counts Mauricio and it is your position on the line. Sickened today.

I'm not normally one for knee-jerk rants, but I'm so fed up now. We're boring, lack winning mentality and leadership and have no proper understanding about creating chances in open play and keeping goals out at the other end. And now we have a weak, imbalanced squad. We'll finish top 6/8 again, but that's not good enough. The football we play is awful.

We were literally coasting for 70 minutes without breaking sweat. 2-0 up looked like it would be 4-0. Then off comes Kane and we implod. No reserve striker no game plan. Dumb or what....its Stoke without Crouch. How can we play so well but end up crashing and burning in the last 15 minutes. I will not blame Lamela, he is not a striker. It's down to piss poor planning by the club, having one striker and no replacement when he gets injured and no game plan if he does. We had no width at times, no Lennon or Townsend to relief some pressure. Even Ady would have been a better option as a substitute. For 70 minutes we played well but without the option of suitable replacement strikers for Kane we will get screwed. We have all talked about this all summer. Today the Pidgeons came home to roost. 3 points down the drain to poor management and piss poor planning.

Without reading I'm going to guess that signings (lack of), Levy, and the subs get the blame, but really that was such a weak and lazy second half right from the off and we eventually got punished. I'm sorry but that was really poor from Poch and shows the problem with his 4-2-4 when we get lazy, people just stroll and do their own thing and we stop pressing. We were repeatedly gang-raped from wide positions, particularly down Walker's side, and were in chaos through midfield and he did absolutely fuck all about it apart from like for like changes and too many people with free roles. How about going to two banks of four and shutting up shop? He could have brought on Rose or Trippier or even both and played them ahead of the fullback. Even if we were defending for the rest of the game at least it would have had some structure and some fucking legs to be able to counter attack.

Weak. Poor. Lazy. A manager who is too stubborn... And we got what we deserved.

Bang on MP. Was just about to post something similar. I've just waded through 5 pages of it's the fault of us not having another striker and Lamela that we lost.

I was saying early on the second half we should have had Walker off an Trippier on. Everything (including both goals) were coming down that side.

The Kane sub and Chadli up top was forced and was absolutely fine tactically. When I saw Bentaleb warming up I thought "great, take Eriksen off, he's barely touched the ball second half, now go 433, 451 without the ball and stop them walking through our midfield, what does he do, take our best CM off. Then he weakens our right side - the side all the problems were coming down - by bringing Lamela on and moving Dembele, who is a more disciplined defender and was more help to Walker. Lamela works hard but is careless and erratic, not what the situation required when they were getting loads of joy down that side.

And the changes weren't the biggest problem, our complete and utter shelling of the second half - before any changes were made - just invited what happened. We just stopped playing, stopped pressing and stopped wanting the ball. Sat back and let Stoke dictate the game. And this was exactly what we did to Pochettino's Southampton twice, and I believe his Southampton had the worst record for conceding leads as well.

actually for those Lamela moaners, I am not sure have you even noticed Eriksen when he was shifted to the left.. cos I only saw him once towards the end trying to put the ball in but was tackled.. a drastic 2 halves of Eriksen for me..

Lamela has a workrate too often ignored.. no doubt his fanciness needs to be sorted, but at least he did not disappear...
Workrate...workrate...blah blah sodding blah...

Lamela is playing in his favoured position. We're shifting Eriksen out wide.. when will people realise the centre is his spot, and the centre only. Christ.

That was a good performance until kane went off.

Pretty much every passionate spurs fans knew we needed another striker before the start of the season, yet it didnt happen. So frustrating.
