Shock horror clubs not giving away their best players and we have to actually pay the going rate. Aka move on to inferior targets .

Lol @ "the going rates".

The same "going rates" we sell our players for? No clubs pay asking prices until thy absolutely have to, cf. Carrick, Modric, Berbatov and Bale.

We should have bought Ricky Lambert really. Would have been happy to sit on the bench or play cup games and would have been ideal to bring on yesterday. If there is no one in the youth squad capable of stepping in we need to go out and buy a third choice striker (once we have bought 2nd choice), regardless of how unfashionable they are.

Edit: disagrees prove that people are blinded by how fashionable a player is. Point is that with a cheap back up to Kane, I strongly believe we wouldn't have lost yesterday. How many points did the unfashionable Clint Dempsey get us? All clubs need these sorts of players.

Going on a rant I always use Fergie as an example of knowing how important a striker is. None of Cole/Yorke/Sheringham/Solskjaer were world class forwards but they knew how to score and made sure that Utd never lacked firepower.

Ha - still one point better off than last year though.
Yeah everythings fine, we look good for a strong season. Dier and Mason bossing that midfield, chadli up top when Kane is injured. Big boys getting worried about us. And I'm a spurs optimist!

Doesn't matter where you sample, on here, among journos and pundits, or more importantly chatting to fellow fans in the stadium, to be two games in with one recognised striker is negligent. We saw proof yesterday, not opinion or what if. Evidence.

Berahino next week would be fine, just fine, given the circumstances we find ourselves in. I will have to go with ghostofarmo for my own sanitys sake.

If you want a player you need to make it worth the selling club's while. They're not just going to give away their prized asset for less than market value. If you're not prepared to do so, move on and stop wasting everyone's time.

Thing I don't get is - number 1 forward target Ings we knew was going to Liverpool pretty much as soon as the season ended. So how long have we been trying to extricate SB from WBA? This is absolutely urgent, top priority, we're already off the pace in the league due to our failure to support Kane who the manager made a point of saying won't be fully firing at the start of the season because of England. And he was right.

Does it really take 2 months or whatever to establish WBA want proper money for Berahino?

Wasn't Martial second-choice after Ings?

Move on. Move on. Move on.

To who? This attitude is so annoying. I get you're frustrated, but we pay what we value the player at. If that's less than the Seller wants but all parties believe we can EVENTUALLY get there then maybe it's worth waiting for. The player may benefit us for years to come. Why can't you see that? Have a slightly more long-term based look at it and think, on balance is it better to get the player after a tricky negotiation and have him for however many years or is it better to get another also-ran in that barely improves us and we sell next year at a loss.

Obviously that may not be the only option, but it kinda looks like that to me.

So yes, drawing with Stoke ISN'T ideal. Nor is losing to them two games in a row. But if Toby doesn't give away the penalty - something completely not related to any of our transfer activity then we wouldn't be talking about this today. Those are the fine lines we're apparently dealing with with some of our fans.

Didn't JJ say we'd all be happy with our signings by the end of the window? So far I'm only OK'ish so there has to be at least 1 good'un to come before moving up to happyish.

At what point have I said that? We're still in the market for players? Wasteman.

apparently Kovacic has just signed for Madrid, maybe this may free up Illarramendi to leave...
What an absolutely idiotic move for Kovacic if true, he should be going to a club were he will be a starter. As for Illarra, he was surplus before, I'm sure he doubly so now even tho they are completely different players.

Everyone's referring to Trix's post but there was the one from FTL just before him suggesting we have a deal in place for Illarramendi.

Do we know who on FTL posted that little nugget.
I just can't see what sort of "deal" we would have in place, with him or RM?
I know that @Trix and @JJetset added the whistlers but whether that was regarding a deal, or just interest, I'm not sure.

Agree with you about yesterday and we only drew to a 'new signing' making a mistake. We were fine till then against a good team. The no striker issue came up though as he went off and we had a midfielder playing there instead of him. I just don't get the logic someone like berahino is more attainable on the last week of the window than the first. Teams don't sell there best players now and that's the type of players we need

Well obviously it does. Otherwise we would have done it?

Answer me this: why would you think our board would deliberately slow this down? Which is your insinuation.

I think you'll find we signed him this window - puzzling some like myself as to why we needed him. While neglecting areas of the team more in need of our scarce resources.

My point was the player giving away the penalty has nothing to do with the general moans about us not having a striker.
