If they turn up and play in the same way they did last year (i.e. come to play football and be very open) then I'm confident we'll beat them. Does Martinez know any other way of playing?

Okay N'jie isn't match fit but ffs if we need some pace surely chucking him on the bench won't do any harm...

In the place of Carroll he isn't going to have any effect and we already will have two midfielders on the bench in Alli and Bentaleb

All the people saying "FFS why is Poch delaying N'jie's debut! he must be fit for 30 minutes"

What if a player unused to Premiership pace comes in for his first game slightly off the pace, and is written off by those that don't know he's not quite up to speed? wrong or right it happens, that players are judged from that first touch of the ball, so isn't it right that we give the lad the best chance by making sure he's at least fit and understands how his teammates play?

Oh and if a new player comes into training and blows everyone away with his tekkers and application do you really think Poch would think 'I'll have to leave him out for a few weeks to work on pressing'

They'd be straight in.

Anyway nice to wake up with a new Son (I didn't even know she was pregnant  and it certainly ain't mine...)

Njie would be a good addition to try and keep the pace of coleman under control.

Verts needs to be stronger or he's gonna get bullied by lukaku

I seem to remember Verts does quite well against Lukaku?

Maybe something to do with training against him for Belgium. (lets hope it's the same for Toby)

Given the injury to Eriksen, and Lamela maybe still here and Poch's affinity for the 4231, this should be the team, IMO;
Lloris
Trippier Dier Vertonghen Rose
Alli Bentaleb
Pritchard Lamela N'Jie
Kane

N'Jie's pace running in behind should create the movement and space we've been sorely lacking for Lamela to operate and create chances. Trippier and Rose should further open up space for Pritchard and Lamela to operate.

Everton are on their 3rd choice left back... Will we..

A) play the same slow inverted crap and not test him all game, or

B) let Trippier or Clinton take a run at him.
A.

Definitely A :(

I refer to Man U game.
17th choice goal keeper.
We have 2 shots on target.
Should have been like the alamo.

Trippier and Rose must start.

We need pace on wings, id even try Yedlin or Walker out on right side of midfield until N'Jie and Son can feature.

Pretty sure it'll be Lamela or Dembele out there though.

Got a pissing international break after this game haven't we? Won't get to see Son until the middle of September

I'd be inclined to start a different 3 behind the striker whoever that might be ;) I'm looking forward to seeing Pritchard & Njie and just don't want to see Dembele at right wing again.

Rose and Trippier need to start for me

I'll die a little inside if I see Walker and Davies start this game.

Time to get your job done Poch.

The only change I can see happen is Alli for Mason. Other than that, there is zero chance he changes anyone else. He'll also have Townsend on the bench for Onomah, as Onomah was left off the provisional squad along with Wimmer, Winks, Pritchard and Yedlin. Son and N'Jie were named but no chance Poch selects them. So disheartening. Toby, Walker and Davies should all have been dropped. Son is a waste of a squad spot as Poch will never select someone who just fucking joined the team plus he doesnt have international clearance yet.

Be ready for another dull, boring, compact game with no meaningful pace and no width like a classic Pochettino-coached Spurs side

Taking my boy to this as his first game tomorrow! Not driven down for a while - any parking tips? Used to chuck it in that big IKEA - is that still OK or have they put a stop to it now?

Need a big game from Dembele if we're to win this IMO. He needs to impose himself more. We always say this, but we need that really good game we see a couple of times a season tomorrow IMO.

We're just so lacking at the moment, its actually quite daunting given the pace and power they have in their side.

I really, really don't want to see Dier in midfield again, but I'm sure he will be. Rose had better be back in, we need width - and hopefully Trippier to.

As it stands, I'd play:

Lloris

Trippier
Toby
Jan
Rose

Bentaleb
Alli

Dembele
Mason
Chadli

Kane

Press them like mad, that's what we did last year at the lane and it was the first, and one of the few, games we actually looked like a proper Pochettino team.

Mason in the ten position, as he's got the incisive passing but just as importantly he's a great trigger for the press.

Mason has been our best player over the last two games and Toby, other than his penalty brain fart has been solid and proactive in creating attacking opportunities from the back.

This is an absolutely critical game. We must win this. A draw would not be a good result, and a loss would be a straight up disaster. 2 or 3 points out of 12 to start the season, with a brutal stretch beginning in the middle of September will put unnecessary pressure on Pochettino. So, we have to hope we can win this one and the Sunderland game after the break and build momentum and confidence into a stretch where we consecutively play Palace , Arsenal, City, Monaco (away), Swansea (away), Liverpool, Anderlecht (away).

Eriksen being out is a huge blow, though. We'll need Kane and Chadli to step up tomorrow and create chances up front for us. Going to be a tough game all around.
