Re BEN's ITK, there's also the Levy factor.

For the Shiny Headed One to retain his reputation as an ace poker player and, ahem, "different" (copyright Fergie), he has to show he can't be bossed around.

Frankly, if Levy wants to demonstrate he wasn't bluffing with his bids for Berahino, and that he did consider them fair value, then signing Son and walking away from Berahino will be useful evidence for the next couple of dozen transfer negotiations.

If WBA want £25m mostly in cash, mostly now, and with very little based on performance clauses, then that isn't a good deal. We could use that amount of cash to get a better player.

Alternately, if WBA really need to sell, and we've agreed terms with SB's agent, then if the price drops closer to £15m up front plus clauses, this deal could happen very quickly. And Levy's "master negotiator" reputation would be boosted.

I note BEN's ITK suggests that he himself thinks he may be being played...... ;)

If only there was another striker in the world besides berahino........

We have to take this info with the usual salt and see what happens by the deadline

Also, JJ said maybe both Berahino and Son. He has repeatedly said we will all be happy with our dealings once the window shuts. Having a back up CF wouldn't side with this, I think we will go late for Hernadez should Berahino not happen.

As others have said, Ben Ruled out Son and he signed shortly after. Once JJ & Trix say we are closed for Business I will pass judgement. Can't believe we won't sign a back up striker.

Let's wait and see. I came close to throwing my toys out of the cot a few weeks ago, but since then we've signed N'Jie and Son. N'Jie looks like he's got lots to offer and Son was a veritable coup for the Club (really wasn't expecting him!). In addition to that, Dier is doing a sterling job in midfield and lots of people were dubious about that; very pleased to say that I wasn't one of them! The situation is nothing like as bleak now as it looked back then. I've got much more faith now that we're actually trying to fill in the gaps, so keep your lids on for the time being lads!

Would be a real blow not to have another specialist centre forward in the squad. Really if Kane went down seriously the amount of PL goals in our squad is nothing - Eriksen and Chadli have about 40 between them, and then - a big fat nothing.
Quite frankly, Kane doesnt have much in him right now either. He'a clearly knackered. He can be ran into the ground playing 90' every single game across 4 competitions because he's our only striker. It's gross negligence from baldy. He's left us short in key areas before and he'll do it again.

I think we'll get Berahino, but why on earth is Kane knackered at this stage of the season?!

Exactly, Kane is 22, being forced to play every game because there is no choice could risk his career too, look at Owen and Pato, never same players again because they played too much when young, i really fear for Kane if we dont sign a striker

If we don't get Berahino I suspect we won't buy any old striker just to have one so we'll go without or loan someone like Hernandez, either way we go back in for Berahino in January.

I can't understand that either, he's played the internationals but has had some rest too.

Maybe it's he isn't up to fitness levels yet or his confidence is down a little.

Bad news, pinch of salt obviously, but there really are no excuses for this situation.

If what Ben says turns out to be true, can't believe we're ignoring the huge hole in our midfield. Let alone the farce of only having one striker. Clinton, Son and N'Jie are not strikers

How come everyone is so convinced N'Jie can't play CF?
I'd like to be proven wrong but it seems too coincidental that barely minutes after WBA last statement out of nowhere we moved for Son.
In terms of a starter in my opinion we have much, much the better player.

A front four of Son, Eriksen, N'Jie/Chadli and Kane has more than enough goals.
All we need is a back up, I really don't think we need to spend Berahino money. Yesterday N'Jie coming on could've made all the difference. I've got question marks but I'm really excited to see how our dynamic is going to change with Son in the side along with Eriksen, I'm hoping it allows Kane to stop dropping so deep.

Can't wait for the meltdown on Tuesday evening.

Will bring some popcorn and a couple of drinks on my way back from work.

I'm not actually against the idea of buying a strictly stop gap striker if we can't get SB. Someone who would cost say £3m to take just some of the pressure off and use only if needed. The Lambert style solution for now. Just think that's a sensible option - especially if N'jie or Son don't work out for whatever reason.
