Mason and Bentaleb were a midfield partnership for a team that finished 5th last season, and I'd say our squad looks healthier than last year. So I think the statement is pathetic.

We were extremely lucky to finish 5th and had a diabolical defensive set up, in no small part due to our midfield's lack of defensive capability. We will be even luckier to pull it off again, at which point it will be even harder to attract decent players. One recognised striker is laughable and the situation is made even worse by the sales of Soldado, Stambouli and Capoue in key positions.

Good one mate.

And how many times did you want those guys to start games last year? Or moan in the match thread when they were announced in the team? And how much did you celebrate when they were sold?

So you expect us to finish 5th or better then?

I didn't say that. I said I think our squad looks healthier than last year. And that our midfield isn't as problematic as people are making out.

I do think that we'll probably finish fifth, but that's not the point I was making.

That's not the point though, is it? The availability of those players, purely as extra bodies in the right positions allowed us to take the heat of our key players in cup matches or as late substitutes. Now we face either playing Kane in every game in every competition until at least January, or playing one of our new signings out of position. There's not even a viable youth option, as he's already playing up front every week for us. And that's without, god forebid, the prospect of him suffering a long-term injury. What a great way either to alienate our most valuable asset, or our newest signings.

Furthermore, we're living on borrowed time with the likes of Lloris and Kane, as we were with Modric, Berbatov... as we were with Bale... unless we show the will to invest (sensibly) and give ourselves a decent chance of playing in the Champions League. Back then, we failed to do it, and left ourselves with an unbalanced squad short in a key area; we've done the same thing again. The top players - such as those listed above are career footballers, they may give us the benefit of the doubt for a couple of years and be attracted to playing for the club, and enlisting in 'the project', but eventually that patience will run out if it's clear that the chairman will continually be prepared to compromise and jeopardise the manager's position to ensure the balance sheet continues to boom. We can't realistically expect Kane and Lloris to be here next season if things go badly this season. It's simply relying on their good will and is unreasonable.

Surely if the terrain is changing and clubs like Everton, Southampton, and West Brom can decide to not sell players for big money, we are capable of doing the same.

You'll find yourself in an extremely small minority then.
Hole, digging stop.
You made an intemperate, erroneous, sideswipe
at a perfectly reasonable statement
which many would agree with
and now feel obliged to defend the indefensible.
Step away from the spade and let us have our say.

So your saying that our squad is healthier than last year. So God forbid HK picks up a nasty injury we are in a better position this season to cover it, than last?

Everybody almost unanimously wanted those three players out. They are out, and now some wishing we hadn't. Even though most wanted them nowhere near the team most of the time.

I've written it twice, so I'm not sure what is indicating that I think otherwise. I can say it a third time?

I think we're in a better position yes. No one would have wanted Adebayor or Soldado playing for any extended time last season. This year we have N'Jie who played as a striker for all bar one of his appearances last season, and the flexibility of being able to play Chadli/Son there if needed.

They never learn. We are always the laughing stock of the transfer window.

Really?

I'll bet sections of Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, West Ham... will argue the toss about that one.

I notice we've started calling Liverpool supperters "victims" now; perhaps some of us should look up the word "projection" in the dictionary as a psychological term.

all of the above either had better squads going into the window so less need to address key areas or shown they have the ambition to invest in their squad and try and improve .......

OK, you've convinced me, shall we protest? What's next?

wasn't trying to convince you, given up trying that game on here ...... just stating how incredibly out of touch you are with the vast majority of Spurs fans, or at least those on my radar - or were you just being provocative on come down Wednesday?
