We got "meh" players. Then what the f@^k do they have?

It's great that people think that. I thought United had 'meh' players when they last won the title.

I don't really blame other fans for thinking that either. If I weren't a Spurs fan, watching us week in and week out, I'd probably think that apart from Lloris and Kane our team is generally pretty 'meh'. Most fans of other teams probably still think Lamela is the expensive flop of the last two seasons, Dembele being hit and miss, then players like Dier and Bentaleb that don't appear to contribute much unless you watch them in several games.

What matters is that we have a lot of players doing their jobs well, and performing as a unit.

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the 'What Our Opponents are Saying' or 'Top 4 finish' threads instead of here but here goes.

Spent yesterday evening surrounded by Liverpool fans (my own fault - I invited them!) including my brother who is, like most Liverpool fans, loathe to give any other club any credit ever.

We got onto football (my own fault - I was feeling chipper about all things Spurs) and he says:

'Spurs will fall away. You don't score enough goals'.

I point out that we've got the best goal difference in the league and only Leicester and City have scored more (I forgot about Everton).

He continues, 'What I mean is I don't think Spurs have it in them to score freely. Like City who score 4 or 5 in games. Spurs can't do that'.

I pointed out the 4-1 wins over City and West Ham, and the 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

He goes on, 'Noooo, what I mean is that as a team Spurs don't have enough goals in them'.

I pointed out that we've had 12 different goalscorers in the league this season, which I believe is more than anyone else (I may be wrong about the latter).

Finally he shakes his head, but doesn't concede the point. Instead he finishes with, 'I know what I mean. I'm just not articulating it well'. Then he started talking about Klopp and the importance of Daniel Sturridge and how one of Vardy and Mahrez will definitely be sold by Leicester in January.

There you have it. Proof that you (or at least I) genuinely cannot argue with a Liverpool fan. Doesn't matter how calm you remain, or how well prepared you are for their bullshit, it simply cannot be done.

(Think they'll win tonight, mind. Sunderland are dreadful)
Well we do have Nacer Chadli who scored more goals than any of their players did last year.

Saw this on Facebook re a few of the lad bible staff giving their team of 2015 and no Liverpool players being in it...

Absolutely deluded. Mignolet, Origi and Lovren mentioned in his team of the year rant. He says lots more ridiculous things but I can't be bothered to screenshot them all.

They've got an alternate premier league table over on rawk.. they are raving how they are only 4 points behind Arsenal in said table, and Arsenal are going for the title! Deluded doesn't even come close to describing that bunch

Spent a few minutes searching for that thread and glad I found it. Bookmarked it now. Their delusion knows no bounds.

The comments

Ha! I like Danny as a pundit, but apparently Spurs have a better LB than Real Madrid target Moreno. And much better defenders than the ever dependable Skrtel. And you don't get to dismiss Sturridge on his injury record. Ridiculous. Coutinho, Henderson, Clyne, Skrtel, Moreno, Sturridge all waltz into the Spurs team. That's six out of eleven. The majority. Danny is so out of touch here.

i think Danny Murphy had probably been out celebrating Christmas before he did this interview

We'll see end of the season. I think none of the Spurs team will get in the Liverpool team. They will be lucky to finish 8th.

Those comments are fucking hilarious. Yeah, everyone's guilty of being biased, but for some of those morons to come out and say that none of our players would get into their team is just pure idiocy. Then they have the cheek to call our fans deluded. If anything, the majority our fans are usually quite conservative, we all love our club but know not to get too ahead of ourselves. We often accept that when it comes to the crunch we can often psyche ourselves out. Liverpool fans are the ones that seem to think they'll win the league the second they squeeze out a 1-0 victory against relegation fodder. To be fair to them, it can't help when the media seem to be feeding their egos with over the top articles.

Murphy's article is pretty fair though. I know Henderson is a consistent and key player for Liverpool, but I'd rather stick with who we have in the midfield. It's not just about the individual talent, it's about how they work as a unit. Dier, Dembele and Alli has been very solid and really works for us. Out of the 3 I actually think Dier's been the most important, he alleviates a lot of pressure off the defence and allows the other mids to do their jobs. Alli would never be able to have the freedom of movement (and success that he's got from it) without Dier backing him up.

Clyne for Walker? Maybe, Walker is frustrating but he has his moments. I've only really watched Clyne for England and I thought he was pretty average. Standard modern day full back in that he's good going forward but weak defensively. Walker's an athlete, strong and quick, but lacks a brain. Not sure if Clyne has one either.

Coutinho I'd definitely take, he's a class player. Not quite at the Iniesta/Hazard/Silva level, but not far off. In fact, he's probably the only Liverpool player I'd actually take that would go straight into the starting line up, no questions asked. For the rest of them I either prefer our options or see no real improvement to merit the swap.

Coutinho sure looks like Hazard and Silva, but I have to say I am very far from convinced he's as good as everyone says he is, and certainly he's a zillion miles short of those two imo.

It's almost as if his physical stature (classic No. 10), his busyness (ditto) and the No. 10 on his back automatically make people think: "Oh, he's Silva!" But is the evidence really there to suggest that's correct? Being busy and having a few nice touches does not make you a top-end player like David Silva.

Does Coutinho really terrorise the channels and the D? How often does he play slide-rule passes and turn the defence? On goalscoring, he's scored a modest 5 in each of the last 3 seasons. He scored a couple of excellent goals last season all right, but IMO those goals aren't the benchmark of his quality, but rather something of an over-achievement. Certainly he doesn't score goals like them that regularly. I also don't think he has a particularly notable set-piece like, say, Eriksen.

I don't want to mindlessly slag the guy off - he's good, and young, and seems to have a positive attitude, but if I had to take a bet, I'd say he's never going to be the CL-class No. 10 people seem to already think he is.

Okay lets see here....skrtel, moreno, henderson, clyne, coutinho abd sturridge would all waltz into the Spurs team, eh? Lets take this one by one...

Skrtel - I laughed. Skrtel would get in our XI over Verts or Toby? Yeah uhhhh no.
Moreno - Rose and Davies are 2 very good full backs. We dont need a so called real madrid target to have good full backs.
Henderson - Eh, no. Dier is one of the best DM in the PL. Dembele is the best all around CM in the PL, IMO.
Clyne - Maybe i could see that. But its tough. Walker is having a fantastic year.
Coutinho - Most overrated player in the PL bar none. Good player but christ almighty. Everyone acts like this guys gods gift to earth the way people go on about him. I'd much rather have Lamela in this team.
Sturridge - Over Kane? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. Oh and the guy is never fit.

I think it's partly when glory hunting goes wrong.. The older lot say 30's-40's have seen them drop right out of contention and the younger ones maybe captured by those lot as their parents or the CL win don't know a Liverpool that has been as dominant. So there's a lot of glory hunter type fan psychology going into breaking down their team's 'achievements' into smaller victories to boast about.. And the utter absence of irony or gallows humour that normal fans can indulge in..

Some halftime feedback from the Klopettes...

Absolutely woeful yet again. We can't defend anything coming into our box, don't think we've won an aerial challenge all game, and we're being bullied off the ball with alarming regularity. Our passing is sloppy and ineffective all over the pitch and our attack is as slow and predictable as ever.

Goal was absolute bullshit of course because of the foul but it was weak, weak defending to allow that cross and unchallenged header.

It's like we've learned absolutely nothing from the Watford game. We need to score two to win when we've been struggling to manage 1 in recent weeks. It's not looking good.
We are bang average. Tra la la la

Half time rant time.

Benteke's ball control and game intelligence has been shocking so far. If a more mobile forward was upfront who could control a ball I'm sure we would of had a goal on the 25th min. Fuck it easier to just say we have been turbo gash in that first half than start slating individuals. As the end of the half got closer to a end the more long range pot shots were happening. Not good viewing that at all.

Shame this ref is shit tho and we never got a freekick that led to their goal.

Their time wasting is annoying to say the least.

Hope we can up our stuff all over or it's deemed to be another Waftord/Newcastle result coming.

Oh and the c*nts that are the comms are loving this so far, gobshites.

Come on redmen time to stand up and get a grip of this game as so far we have been as uneffective/less threatening as I can remember.

Such a poor team with so many issues.

Benteke is isolated and no one around him. Plus we can't cross so what's the point?

Firmino is a 29 million player. He has been shit for weeks.

Coutinho and Lucas have been a disgrace. Fucking hell are we missing Hendo in the middle.

Dogshit

Wouldn’t give any player above 3/10 for that half

Dysfunctional across the entire team, second best to everything and bullied again

Firmino is never going to make it for us, its now plain to see

We could play these for 900mins and not score

*sighs*

Benteke has literally zero technical ability.... Then you look at what else he added to this game, zero aerial ability, zero strength and no fight. Fucking appalling.

Klopp looks on in disbelief. And rightly so. We've been well off the pace, poor decision making, poor movement , and awful ball control all over the pitch, particularly from the big fella up top. Ibe looks an upgrade on Lallana. Lazy arse closing down on their goal. Another frustrating afternoon so far.

But...but...the gegenpressing though?

I used to enjoy watching us play.
But...Klopp?

Replace Firmino with anyone, Just anyone.

Look shittier than Carroll's hair.

Ah well, they seem happy enough. :)
