A thread to discuss Sky related stuff, for better or for worse. Usually worse though.

So Martin Tyler has gone, which is good considering he commentates like he hates being there more often than not. They’ve now got Peter Drury to replace him. Lots of pressure on him as he’s always retweeted thousands of times for various pieces of Shakespearean type commentary. Let’s hope we get some semi excitable commentary with no ‘when Kane leaves’ shite every game. Might be a bit much to ask for….

Saw a bit of news today regarding Jaydee Dyer, one of their reporters. I posted the following around 4 years ago shortly after our CL final:

‘Does anyone watch that shitshow transfer talk on sky sports? There’s a guy on there called Jaydee Dyer and on the very first show a couple of weeks ago, he was really disrespectful about Spurs when they were talking about Eriksen. He said ‘he‘s never going to win any trophies at Spurs so you can understand why he wants a move’. I thought at the time that was a proper ****y thing to say. He said other shitty things too but I can’t remember what they were now. Even worse was he said it so ‘matter of factly’, and it wasn’t challenged by anyone, despite us being in the CL final weeks earlier.

Anyway, just watching the show again now and he’s almost crying about Koscielny leaving Arsenal. He’s talking to the camera and pleading with him to stay. It all makes sense now...... Great unbiased journalism as usual... ?’

Well that Jaydee Dyer has just been let go from Sky. This has made me smile menacingly. Like from the film ‘Smile’. I can’t stress enough how biased he was against us regularly but particularly in that episode. He’ll get another job of course but thank fuck he’s off Sky. I’ve had a kind of irrational hatred of him since I saw that.

Also, Laura Woods. Left TalkSport, apparently taking over on BT Sports (TNT). Good move?

Peter Drury is a phenomenal football commentator.

The Kane goal away at City was absolutely perfect

Jaydee Dyer was actually good on soccer Saturday as a commentator/reporter at the games. Never actually seen him in the studio but he was a decent reporter which for sky was very rare.

Yeah the general consensus on one social media site* is that he’s a decent reporter. But on the transfer talk show, he just came across as really unprofessional due to bias. Not just once either. And they weren’t all amusing digs, it was genuine disrespect.

*that social media site was The Sun….

Don’t know anything about this bloke but you’d hope that if you were 30+, especially as a journalist, you’d be able to put amy allegiance to one side from a working perspective., especially if you’re a bit of a nobody who has just got lucky and ended up in that kind of position.
Totally get it from anyone in the comms guys who have actually played for a team they are commentating on but the rest of them can seriously jog on!

Don't listen to her on Talksport, but when she was working for ITV during the world cup I thought she was a very decent presenter and one of the best things about their coverage.

Think she's a great shout for TNT. Miles better than that insufferable bellend Jake Humphreys (even if she is an Arsenal fan).

Talksport had got overrun with Woolies, mostly it was off Laura Woods and Bent inviting almost exclusively former Woolwich players on as guests - other than Dean Saunders, Tony Cascarino and Gabby Pingponglahor, it was a parade of proper bellends constantly, constantly going on about how Spurs fans are delusional to compare us to their stellar squad, like Space Jam and shit.

They talk about it like it's inconceivable (

) we could ever measure up, ignoring us finishing above them for six seasons before this year. Comes to something when you tuned in, heard Cundy and thought well, at least it's not another red. Cundy! ffs!

Yeah I kind of agree. Her digs at Spurs are more often made in a humorous way and often in response to Spurs fans calling in and making cocks of themselves. But also she does show her bias too….. But then again if I worked with Jamie O’hara I’d prob wanna get as many digs in as possible.

She is a good presenter though. Very calm and clear. Not the worst looking person in the world either…..

Honestly I think I’d genuinely hate to hang around with 95% of the guest presenters on TalkSport. I very rarely listen but see clips on Facebook. The new breed over the last couple of years make Adrian Durham seem bearable. Genuinely.

Bent, R Jennings, Keown, Cundy. Just rubbish.

That’s prob for the TalkSport thread though.

I couldn’t stand him. He just waffled for ages about 0-0 draws at Doncaster.

Sky need to keep going for a bit tbh, bin off the likes of Merson, and Alan fucking Smith.

Would be genuinely nice to have some football coverage where they talk generally about the teams and it isn’t just a constant United, City, Pool and Arsenal love in and every game they have becomes about them with the opponent an afterthought.

Geoff Shreeves is the latest to be leaving Sky.

I wonder if Branislav Ivanovic broke the news to him?

Looks like they’re having a proper clear out. Long over due to be honest, but this looks a lot like cost cutting rather than a genuine desire to change the quality or style of their output.

Quite likely (I’d imagine lots of households are cutting down on subscriptions at the moment), but a good mate of mine has worked for Sky for years and has always given the impression that it’s very cliquey on the broadcasting side of things, which often ends with a load of ‘old hands’ being pushed out/moved on in waves, in order to make room for whoever is friends with the right people at the right time. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jaydee Dyer decision is cost cutting but the Geoff Shreeves decision is more of a changing of the guard to be replaced by one of the regular contributors on SSN.

From listening to him on American broadcasts he grinds my gears. Very picky but his constant overselling of any half chance irritates me.

Rob Dorsett just said the Mount deal was all but done and it’s just a case of crossing the i’s and dotting the t’s.

You have to wonder whether with so many leaving Skysports football its a strong signal they expect to lose the next set of primary rights bids

I have as of last week cancelled my entire Sky subscription. I can do without it as I have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Now TV on both our main tv and our bedroom tv.

After 30 years of Sky/Sky Sports I believe it is a dinosaur.
