Here is my assessment of the current situation regarding the need for a Harry Kane back-up... Simply put Harry Kane is irreplaceable. Like many of our rivals, there are players in our team that we have back-ups for, but aren’t a like for like replacement from a skill set point of view.
Our North London chums without Giroud will use Walcott, Sanchez or maybe Campbell. But none of these have the same skills as Giroud and you could also argue he is less important in his contribution. Like us they have an abundance of Attacking Midfielders that can do a job up front. Their title challenge would be dented by a loss of Ozil or Cech. Welbeck is injured and is he going to win you the title?
Man City without Aguero is pretty buggered and we all know that Kompany is irreplaceable. Granted they have Bony, but this surely proves the point that £30m and £100k per week, is not going to buy you a decent back-up.
Leicester City without Vardy or Mahrez are a much less potent threat, granted they are in for Remy, but £11m for a back-up striker who can’t deliver with the embarrassment of supply from a Chelsea team (ok might be considered a little generous to the Chelsea attacking midfielders), is unlikely to make a world of difference and Ulloa has again not proven he can carry the load.
Then you have United... Striker?? Martial plays wide and Rooney is no focal point attacker any more.
We could do a Liverpool and hoover every second string attacker out there, none that actually fit your system.
So what I am saying… We, like our rivals are in the lap of the Footballing Gods and I understand our frustration, those Gods have dropped us a fair few times over the years. But if there is a Harry Kane replacement out there that can fit automatically into our system from day one, is fit enough, young enough, understands their role as understudy, won’t upset the dressing room harmony, is affordable and AVAILABLE, let me know because I don’t know of one. Maybe with Son, Chadli and Alli we can just muddle through if we need to…
So… We won’t win the league without Kane, Arsenal without Cech, Man City without Kompany and Leicester without Vardy… So the pessimists from each club can say we are all doomed, the realists can keep their fingers crossed and the optimists keep on dreaming…
Nice post mate. But surely Welbeck is Arsenal's back up striker. He is a centre forward who can do a job wide. He's not identical to Giroud but as a back up centre forward he's exactly what you want as he can also fill other positions in addition to his primary position as CF. Just because he's injured doesn't mean they don't have backup for Giroud - they do.
Wellbeck is no different to Son. He's spent most of his career playing as a wide forward in Fergies teams and the same for Arse.
Damned auto connectThat should have been geordies by the way

When we were so desperate we took Andy Booth on loan. Or signed the Raz. Take your pick.
I remember this game quite vividly, I'd just got out of hospital having contracted meningitis. Then I really felt rough when I saw our lineup.
If there is it'll be in this forumIs there a Alex Pritchard transfer thread anywhere?
Cheers. If there is it'll be in this forum
I saw somewhere (not sure if true obviously) that Dembele went from 40k a week to 70k in his new deal. No wonder he was smiling.[/QUOTE

I remember the game vividly too. It was the day I got with Mrs Ryantegan
Is it worth keeping up the usual deadline day charade of getting dressed in my work clothes, kissing the wife goodbye then driving around the corner until said wife leaves for work only to come back to the house with SSN on the TV and SC on the laptop?
