Some people just have bought into a narrative where it's all pretty a much negative slant on everything we do and they either do not see or do not want to see anything that is not within their own narrow, negative view of the club and on Levy, etc.

I've been supporting Spurs for over 30 odd years and have experienced many ups and downs but I do not think the club has been in better shape than it has been over the past 5 years or so. There is a lot to look forward to, we are a club on the up. Just because we didn't sign a certain player on deadline day doesn't take that away, as disappointing as it might be.

Which is a sentence that shows how far we've come in the last 10 years.
True but it's also where we were 5 years ago.

Which means that we're fighting every year to keep still and one slightly below par season drops us out of the CL and potentially puts our best players at risk of leaving.

It's very demoralising fighting every season to keep still.

It's why I think the new stadium us so very vital for us

tbh I don't think a lot of the ITK helps...people take it as gospel so when a lot of it, inevitably, doesn't materialise the easily disappointed just start hammering away on their keyboards for us all to read.
I look forward to when the kids all go back to school, I get the impression a lot of posters are about 15.

You mean it's stupid to get annoyed over us not signing a player that only two days ago none of us knew we had any intention of signing? Keep your logic to yourself :D

We all know that certain ITKs hold a lot more weight than others, but some people really believe that Poch is telling his innermost feelings and emotions with people to post on a fan forum is quite frankly ludicrous.

Its justified IMO.

New tv deal, CL and so on. And we sign two bench warmers and let half the squad go.
Wanyamas played every minute so far, and Janssen almost the same.
Are these the bench warmers you're referring to?

Our club is more pessimistic in nature. Even when we position ourselves to maximise opportunity this still stays true and i believe this is the core complaint.
An example being we are a CL club this season and have significantly more additional revenue benefits from TV deals, selling squad players and yet we hear the message 'we can't compete with any other big club for first 11 quality signings.'

The two signings thus far showed real optimism but now fans feel a bit sold short based on the opportunity we had to further strengthen.

Without question 3rd last season was a success but their were external factors at play too...largely the big clubs were shit.
This season all of the big clubs have strengthened on paper through player and management team acquisition. They have started brightly whilst we've looked jaded and lacking squad depth - due to the sale of pretty good squad players that we wanted sold on the assumption stronger players were brought in.

I think the worries are justified and rightly voiced as we want the best for our club as fans.
Once transfer deadline is over we should rally behind and be hoepful once more...
Good post though and great to see fans keeping it together!

Of course we're negative, we're football fans, if we were positive well adjusted people we wouldn't watch a bunch of rich ****s pass a ball about every week.

I'm not really bothered by Christmas presents but I do hate it when Santa sells all my old toys (that I may have played with again) and then brings me fuck all.

Its all about the statement of intent.

If net spend was zero every year, and there were 10 clubs that made money from signings, and there were not millions extra in Tv money every year, and we were not one of the most expensive places to watch football in the WORLD, the Op would have a point.

But we are bottom pf the table for 7 years running in tfr spend, and we ARE one the most expensive tickets in the world, and we DO have millions extra every year from TV, and our wage bill has DECREASED.

They are taking the piss.

Sissokho, Another huffer and puffer. Will tear his way up the wing, skip 3 tackles and cross it into the 8th row, all day long. If that is our statement signing after getting into the CL groups then my ticket will be up for grabs.

After I read the rants of the Negative Nancys, first I bash my head against a wall, then I sit back a relax knowing that I'm that much more intelligent than they are (even after having smashed my skull in).

I think its a matter of trust. Fans pay to watch their teams play and when they don't see the money used to enhance the team they feel cheated; that it's gone to someone else's pocket.

Truth is probably in between. You need to buy the right guy at the right time and now isn't the time given macro factors.

Personally i trust DL to run the club responsibly which means balancing financial gain for shareholders, paying people correctly and satisfying fans (in that order).

And how the feck does ben know what weve offered for Sissoko? How can he be so exact when weve only been interested for 24 hrs.

I wouldn't have been too unhappy if we had kept our squad players except Fazio and Yedlin, with Wanyama and Janssen coming in. . I see absolutely no reason that we needed to sell Pritchard, Bentaleb, Mason or Chadli. We need a bigger squad not a smaller one. Ok, if we bring in replacements but it's looking increasingly likely that we end with zilch. Even the Nkoudou deal seems to be still in the balance. That by the way is a complete farce.
We are playing in the Champions League FFS. And all those around us have strengthened. It's great that we have talented youngsters like Onomah, Winks and Edwards but we should have seen how they integrate between now and January before offloading our squad players.
As usual Levy has screwed up with his ridiculous strategy of waiting until the day before the deadline and then making stupidly low bids which have zero chance of success. The only reason that we got the 2 players that we did is because we made those moves early. When will he ever learn ? Great that we balance the books. Most of us don't give a shit about net spend especially with all the extra revenues this season from different sources.
My own opinion is that it is very unlikely we finish in the top 4 and that ending up in the Europa League again after the CL group stages is highly likely.
Sorry if this is overly pessimistic but many of us are really pissed off.

Is this something that is deep rooted within our fans? When did it come about? I know we've had plenty of false dawns over the years but we've also had some wonderful achievements as well. We're no longer stuck in mid table and continue to finish in the top 6 even though we're not mega rich and the league is tougher than ever.

Are we ever going to believe in this club again? It just seems that every season I read nothing but negativity from our fans. We've finally got a great manager who is young and still improving. The best academy set up we've ever had. The best training facilities for them to work on and a new state of the stadium on the way. Our team (with the youngest average age) last season finished in our highest ever position. We have Champions League football for only the second time. Yet still there is more negative talk about the club.

I think the transfer window brings the absolute worst of it from the fans. It's like a bunch of petulant kids crying over what presents they wanted for Christmas and didn't get. It seems many of our fans have an agenda. If you post something positive about being happy with the work we've done in the window people disagree. Why? Because I'm being optimistic about the club I love? Fuck you. I believe in this club. Regardless of what squad we have come 11pm tonight I will be behind them. I couldn't give a shit about players who play at other clubs that we may have been linked with. The only players that matter are the ones that represent the club.

You get people complaining about selling players who they also moan about in the match threads. Mason is shit one minute and then hang on why have sold him? People are too obsessed with what we could have they overlook what we actually do have. This is the best position the club has been in since the Premier League era started. Sorry if it sounds like I'm writing with a judgemental tone because that's not really my intension. I just wish this place was a lot more positive considering what a great club this is.
I like your sentiment however two points:
1) For as well as we're doing on and off the field we've won basically nothing of note for 25+years!!!!
That's is appalling and deep rooted now within us. Once Potch and this young team win something of note I think this will kick off a period of success for us.

2)Football as a game seems to be a bit ruined, for as well as we are doing, we have one good season where we get close and then every team spends hundreds of millions on new players and leap frog us, it's boring. Also if Chelsea nick Sissoko that just sums everything up. We have fucking champions league football and they may sign the guy instead of us!

All for being positive but there is only so much we can take as fans. That having said If as a neutral I could pick a team to support right now with a bright future it'd probably be between us and Liverpool.

Financially, we have no right to even compete with those teams, yet we do, year after year.
If anyone really thought after last season that the Mancs and Chelsea weren't going to spend big this year then they're bloody naive.
Right now maybe 4th is the best we can hope for....and I'm absolutely cool with that.
Why be cool with 4th?! If you can't aspire to win something then what's the point. The game is about glory not net spend profit margins.

I'm not sure how far back it really goes. Considering we've had great success winning trophies in the past I don't know if it was like this back then. I can just imagine people complaining back in the day about how Bill Nic didn't get any backing in the transfer window. If MacKay or Blanchflower get injured we're fucked. Or our squad of 17 players is far too small to win anything.

I think it's because we have the internet now. For one, it breeds negativity and abuse as it's 'faceless', it says more about the so called 'fans' than our club. Secondly, we have more information about players/transfers/pretty much everything, we feel we know individual players on a more intimate level, we have ITK which never used to happen, we can follow every transaction, some fans think they even know how the club does business behind the scenes. All of which, is through the internet.

I remember in the 80's, the first you would hear of a player was a headline in the Sun "Spurs bid £1.5m for x player" it was exciting to read that. Then you'd hear that 'x player signs for Spurs (or rejects Spurs)" a few days or a week or so later. That was essentially it. People were disappointed, but it didn't (indeed couldn't) lead to being obsessed about it, because people simple didn't know all the details.

They were good times, it was so exciting to read the big bold headlines on the back page. My advice to those who can't cope with transfer windows or info overload, is simply don't read it. You will avoid stress and disappointment. Simply watch the games, form your own opinion, and avoid match day threads. I might even try it for a few months, see how it goes!

Sorry if this is overly pessimistic but many of us are really pissed off.

Many were even more pissed off last year but some of the younger players came in and did pretty well. Dier playing in midfield was laughed at early last year and many people were on a witch hunt because we didn't sign a true defensive midfielder. Maybe they see something in the kids that we aren't. Maybe they've sold some of the squad players because they don't really believe they are any better than those coming through and certainly less hungry. Maybe its just going to be a crazy deadline day, but I think we are still in a pretty good spot.
