Why would Levy not want to deal with Mendes?

Was it anything to do with Moutinho deal or something else?

Who should be dropped then? I'd be highly against shoe horning him in just for the sake of it, when the team is functioning so well.
in the 4231, I think Isco is a better pure playmaker than Eriksen.

But, in the current 343/3421 Eriksen plays a role that requires both a playmaker and someone who can score from creating their own shot. I think Eriksen does that better than Isco.

Exactly- both players bring similar but nuanced differences to a game. If we weren't so defensively stable, I'd question the sense of having them both on the pitch but currently it makes sense.

If Isco, or anyone else with potential to unseat one of the current XI, were to come in, it would mean the best player for the formation, the opposition, the tactics and current form could be played.
If you look at Eriksen, the games where he is not on top form would be the ones where someone else coming in would be great. Competition for places is key.
I am sure Poch would be very happy to have a selection dilemma like that!

I meant of concern to us, as in has been loosely linked.

Here is a link of his companies players

Moutinho isn't on there as he's dropped him as an agent, but he messed us around only to join one of Mendes's favourite clubs, Monaco, when Mendes was agent.

Coentrao is another, who we were after, then got a new Real Madrid deal and was loaned to Monaco a season later.

There is also a certain Helder Postiga, that would be a long but probably deserved grudge from Levy.

May be other players but I've missed those rumours.

Regarding Grey Fox's ITK I wonder if one of the young players we might be looking at on a buy and loan back basis might be Leicester's Ben Chilwell as a possible Davies replacement next season. He impresses me more each time I see him; great pace, works hard and can actually cross the ball. Given Rose's injury and disciplinary record I see LB as one of the few positions where we could really use an upgrade as back up. No hate for Davies (he's a solid reserve) but there is a big drop off in our attacking threat when Rose is out and Chilwell is a very similar player to Rose.

Don't know why this got so many funny ratings, Chilwell is World Class. Tore us a new one last year. If we signed him we'd have a great backup in Rose.

So Isco is the player we want.

Weirdly enough there isn't a thread on him on the first page of the transfer rumours forum.

You should have seen the response I got on COYS when we were rumoured to be interested in Theo Walcott and he went to Arsenal and I posted that I would rather sign Southampton's young LB who had yet to make an appearance for their first team .

Funny how a lot of us are planning formations for where to fit Isco in...

I'll be so surprised if we pull off a signing like this in a January window. Saying that, if we pull of a transfer like this (whenever), what is the guarantee he'd even take Eriksen's place? He's done it in the EPL - and continues to do it at the age of 24.

He scored 6 times last season and created 114 chances wth 13 assists. The season before he scored 10 with 80 chances created. He's improving every season. Half way through the season he's already racked up 58 chances and 8 assists.

Isco's a magnificent player but the assumption he would come to the Premier League and mop it up is just that, an assumption.
Eriksen's a magnificent player and he's ripping it up for us already.

We are told (quite often) that this thread isn't the place to just pick out names. People being polite. :)

Great info from Grey Fox. Interesting that we think that we could still get Isco in this window, and nice to hear that we wouldn't just move on to plan B, but will keep pursuing him in the summer if we can't complete the deal in January.

Going by the previous info the other player is probably Zaha, but that's going to be a bit tricky with him being at the ACN isn't it?

We clearly have to prepare ourselves for a very quiet January and Summer 2017 as there no longer seems to a list of players we work our way down. We seem to want two specific players and if we can't get them we get no one. We stick with what we have.

He's proper dodgy. He has been in China recently, either doing deals or lining up future deals (he is Costa's agent after all). Lots of his players have been named in a tax evasion scheme. He has a lot of control over their futures and if you deal with him, he can just decide to create a situation where they kick up a fuss and it ends in them moving on. Plus he's Mourinho's agent and any deal could easily be scuppered/leaked to Man Utd (or others) to come in and gazump.

Sure there are plenty of other reasons, too.
