Roles has a real composure in and around goal. I like him a lot.
Not saying that Jack is at dele's level but just think if roles made our first team, and we have two absolutely clinical young English (I know Jack reps Cyprus) midfielders in the side, how jealous would everybody else be.

For Aussies with Foxtel, the FA Youth Cup games are live on Chelsea TV.
Bias AF commentary but it'll have to do.

Roles definitely plays as a Dele-lite. Even has a similar amount of petulance to his game as well.

Personally he's one of my pet favourites in the academy along with Bennetts.

Agree about Roles but not Bennetts.

will be interesting to see which of the 2nd years get pro deals and which only get extended scholarships. i'm guessing it comes down to the quality of the group rather than there being some kind of limit on the amount of pro contracts we hand out?

My hunch.

Brandon Austin - 3rd Year
Keanen Bennetts - Pro
Jaden Brown - 3rd Year
Dylan Duncan - 3rd Year
JPG Velasco - 3rd Year
George Marsh - Pro
Joy Mukena - Released
Jack Roles - Pro
Samuel Shashoua - Pro
Kaz Sterling - Pro
Japh Tanganga - Pro
Nick Tsaroulla - Pro
Alfie Whiteman - Pro

Wouldn't be surprised if Bennetts & Tsaroulla were given 3rd Yr but expect both to turn pro.

we had itk a little while ago from @Lilbaz that tsaroulla's already signed a pro.

the bottom five on your list are those i'd definitely look to get signed up - if they aren't already. only one i'm unsure of staying on is velasco as he hasn't played a great deal, it's not a good sign for him when an u16 like patterson is starting games over him though. we've done well to get such a good group overall and that's not even including edwards, it makes up for the poor group that preceded them bar ccv.

Quotes on twitter from Poch...

Mauricio Pochettino says academy striker Kazaiah Sterling will be in the first-team squad next season. #THFC

Pochettino: "Nowadays, it is not so important for young players to move, but you need to respect every single opinion." #THFC

Pochettino: "I prefer to have our young players here and offer them the potential to be first-team players than send them out on loan."

Pochettino: "But if you do not get the opportunities, like Harry Kane, to be involved with the first team, it is best to move and go."

Pochettino: "But when you give those players the opportunity to train with the senior squad, that is an even better experience." #THFC

Pochettino: "One example is Kazaiah Sterling. Next season he will be here and means every day there is an U18 striker training with @HKane."

Pochettino: "There is no better teacher to learn from. Where would we send him? It would be a completely different philosophy." #THFC

Pochettino: "If you do not have opportunity to train every day with the first team, it is true that it is good to grow in another place."

Pochettino: "But here we try to provide the facility to train with the first team for any player who can cope with the pressure." #THFC

I'm absolutely buzzing for him, sterling must be just brimming with confidence. I see no reason he couldn't at the minimum become a Danny welbeck type, hard worker, who is pretty consistent in front of goal.

What does that mean for harrison or the other players on loan?

Harrison doesn't fit the mould. We probably gave him a couple of years training with the first team because of his goalscoring form but he was always a bad fit for a Poch side. Sterling, while not the goalscorer or pure technician that Harrison is, is a far better physical and mental fit. He'll chase all day, get stuck in and run with the ball. When he's not injured he's very fit and surprisingly strong. For Sterling I can see him filling the Son role. For Harrison...who does he cover for? He's not an Ericksen, he's not an Alli, he's not a Kane, he's not a Son.

We have not had much luck in signing strikers since Berbatov, Defoe and Keane so let's pray Harrison and Sterling can make an impact.

Do we not think that this is essentially just referring to the fact that he'll be turning pro and training with the first team constantly rather than the Academy with occasional first team?

i thought it meant he'd be in the starting lineup for the opening game of next season, don't dash my dreams  ;)

anyway, i'm intrigued as to how this is going to work with the amount of talented young players we have coming through. if sterling's getting the 1st team training/no loan treatment then you'd think it'll be the same for the likes of whiteman, tanganga and shashoua at some point, tsaroulla too maybe, then you have tob and eyoma in the age group below who you'd also put in that category. that's not even mentioning kwp, ccv, edwards and onomah who are already there, i'm just struggling to see how you bring all of these through whilst keeping them at the club.

edit - just noticed you could make a pretty sweet 11 out of those named above

whiteman
eyoma ccv tanganga
kwp tob onomah tsaroulla
edwards shashoua
sterling

imo those regular spots training with the first team would be saved for the 'elites' like your edwards and sterlings. Tsaroulla, shashoua etc would probably go on loan. the next person i expect to do the full time training would be Oakley-Boothe

I don't think Harrison is a lazy coaster though. I think - if your theory is correct (and it could well be) - that Poch needs to be a little bit careful. You wouldn't have said Eriksen was an archetypal "Poch" player 3 years ago, but Poch has improved what he does without the ball enormously.

I think there's a danger of filling your side with energetic but erratic "Son's" and if possible I'd rather try and teach an intelligent, technically gifted player to be diligent than a diligent worker to be intelligent and composed.

It's not like Alli and Kane don't do a bit of coasting either. Alli trundles around a lot but doesn't always press intelligently. But because he's very young and talented it's tolerated.

Don't see why Harrison couldn't be viewed in a similar vein.
