And the same thing will happen because our players cannot make the passes that exploit the extra space. Big pitches expose some of our technical deficiencies. Defend against us is very simple, especially in a 4231: Press the CBs, clog the midfield/deny ball to Eriksen, track and Double the long diagonals...hit us on a counter or set piece. Job done. the only way we have to break it is Dembele driving through the lines. This is why we need a CM with good distribution. Winks would have helped but to not at least have had Dembele from the start really hurt.

Spot on, there were numerous times today when someone had the ball in the middle and had a player right next to him but also someone completely clear hugging the touchline a bit further but we more often than not chose to play the short pass, slowing down the move, probably pass it back to the centre backs etc. I don'd mind that sometimes as it's become part of our game and it's how we put a stamp on and control games a lot but there was too much of it today. Back to Vertonghen, slowly to Toby, to Lloris, to Toby, to Davies, to Dier, to Veronghen etc. We really struggled to get the ball to Alli, Son, Eriksen and Kane in the advanced positions.

I said exactly the same at half time in here. Too many with "next man" vision. There were times when if we'd by-passed that next man there was a chance to break ranks but no one wanted to play that pass.

I know it's tough when teams do what West Ham did tonight but we didn't help ourselves. At least we are getting linked with some decent 8's, we desperately need one if Winks isn't playing and Poch isn't ready to play Onomah.

Fair play to Henry, he came out of the blue and put to bed the theory of us "bottling" the league. He said that in neither of the last two seasons have we led and so cannot be labelled as throwing it away.

That aside, it genuinely hurts to watch average teams winning cups over the last few years (Man Utd, Arsenal, Leicester) and we have absolutely nothing to show for what is described as the best ever Spurs team since the Premier League's inception

He hates us - and I do mean I have seen him being interviewed and using the word hate in regard to us. But never allows it to get in the way of doing his job. He gives us credit when it is due and if he hears nonsense being spoken about us, he calls it as it is.

Very good, but not sure about the bit with the bloke puking. Is your daughter lead guitar?
Lol me neither, never liked that bit. Guitar roles are shared, as with vocals, so there's no "lead" as such. She's the first singer in the song, the one with the nose ring. Tonight she just did a little solo gig. So glad I went instead of being glued to the tv at home. Unfortunately it was on the tv in the next room and I was tempted in once or twice.

He also said, 'you don't need to be a brain surgeon to know that football is a physical game'! The man is a fucking idiot who talks himself into a corner and then starts digging!

The thing is it's done now and again we are left to pick over the pieces of what might have been, we always seem to be just that little bit short and i don't know what the answer is anymore.

Top draw quality in the depth of squad, a good wide player and an altetnative to Kane.

Saw that post and 'liked' it. It happens every game someone in acres but either ou friggin player is too 1 fucking footed, unable/unsure of making it with their dominant foot, or lacking the vision to do it because of a history of the first two.

There was a glaring exception to this against Arsenal on Sunday. Jan, only rivaled by Robben as the most left footed person ever, got stuck around the center circle with limited options. He saw/knew Trips was high up in the channel and 'double-pump' a right footed ball up to him. It wasn't the most picturesque pass and it might have come off his ankle but it was the correct pass and it immediately put Arsenal on the backfoot.

Did we bottle it? Who knows. I love our team and hopefully we'll eventually be able to get over the line one day. However you want to look at it we should be beating that West Ham team. Fact is we just didn't turn up tonight.

These results can happen but this time theres been no margin for error. We've had injuries all season and especially right at a crucial point in the CL groups. It's disappointing but 2nd would be a massive achievement let's be honest. I don't care about Leicester and Hull now, just want us to win our last game at the Lane. Not much we can do but keep going, strengthen the squad and bring our desire to very first game of next season.

If we beat Man Utd hopefully Poch gives Edwards a debut against Leicester. At least give a reason to be bothered about what could be a pointless game.

Overall brilliant from lads and we have a positive future.

Head over to the stadium thread to see our purpose built FOOTBALL stadium. All ours.

Let's get behind the club and boys

we will finish above them for the third time in four years despite spending 40% of what they have on players.

And? What do we win for that? We all know that we have a better team than them, that's the point. We have that and yet they win trophies and we don't, that is the issue here.

I think the problem was exacerbated by having Wanyama and Dier next to eachother.

No idea why we didn't start with 352 like we had been playing. I think that would have helped.

Last night reminded me a bit of England Iceland in the summer in that when we went behind the players looked scared and lost all focus of our gameplan.

The boys are going to need to get their shit together this week for the Man U game and I think they will. It's the perfect game to focus the mind.

That's where we still need a been there and done it at the highest level experienced pro in their early 30s to come on and sort the game out. We've been calling for one for 2 summers.

Arsenal got worse over time. In the early Emirates years they challenged for the title and got to S/F stages of competitions. Not winning anything led to key departures and they've fallen back to top four contenders at best.

Whereas we are on the ascending curve. We may fall apart but time will tell and I believe in this group that success will come. At the moment it sucks because the stars just don't align for us. We're always chasing rather than being chased which is a different type of pressure but in our position and where everyone said at the start of the season we'd be, us being the second best is no shame because we are out-doing expectations anyway.

And that is a fact? How so? This season has been virtually a replica of last, where is this discernible ascension? We are about to move into two new stadiums in the next 2 years, this has historically impacted sides and one of those stadiums is Wembley where we have an abysmal record. I really do not where such optimism is coming from give the circumstances ahead. It's why I find this blasie attitude from so many of supporters with respect winning things now so perplexing.

And again we are Arsenal circa 2007-2012, lots of pretty football, lots of plaudits about youth and building for the future and zero substance when it comes to silverware. We haven't won anything for a decade now, we have had 2 fantastic sides on paper and nothing to show for it. Do you not think that like Bale and Modric this will be on minds our current best players, that like Arsenal a club hat does win major honours will find it difficult to retain their best?

Just a quick observation. Before the game kicked off Kane was just standing all alone in the tunnel. The team didn't all come out together which I find a bit strange. Maybe they weren't as "on it" from the start as they should have been.

Top two places aren't in the bag yet so we've got to sort ourselves out pretty quickly.

At least we will never have to get t-shirts with "We stopped West Ham winning the League [date]." I'd rather have our future than theirs.
