There's a few promising mane like speedsters we could go for

Quincy promes
Salah - snatch him out of pools mouth
Justin kluviet
Leon bailey
Or go back for zaha regardless of contract

But we've tried 3 times and failed 3 times with Clint, gkn, and sissoko

Are you nuts fam?!

That video is from this season

Did you watch the video?
Alli can make all of those runs. There's not a single play in that video where he glides past players with speed, they are all long balls. I'm not saying he's slow, but he's no longer the lightning quick player everyone wants

I actually watch the games, not yt videos. The speed comes from the full backs. Marcelo is faster than Ronaldo right now

I'd really love to know what your definition is of 'gliding past a player with speed' is because there's plenty of examples in that video...besides that video is that it's a good indicator to see what we lack at the top. If anything it's players who have burst of acceleration...it's not just about making runs behind the defence if it was as easy you'd see Alli drifting behind defenders constantly. Poch made an exact reference to the kind of pace we need after the Liverpool match last season It's about having a player or players who can burst through the lines and unsettle defences.

Your point about Marcelo is redundant, the speed that we're in need of needs to come from the top end not the full backs/wing backs. No-one is saying that Ronaldo is as quick as he was and you're right Marcelo is faster but Ronaldo is still quick and is seen as a threat on the break, that's something we lack. Walker and Rose are two of the fastest players in our team but we're still in need of pace up top.

“We need a player who is more direct, more aggressive offensively,” Pochettino revealed. “Because we have players like Eriksen, [Heung-Min] Son or Lamela who like the ball played into their feet. So we need someone who has characteristics like we saw from Liverpool, like Sadio Mané, the type of player that can break the defensive line. I'm not talking about kicking or punching someone, only running and having the right mentality.”

That sounds like a judicious use of funds -pay something like £20m and about £80k per week for Barkley to sit on the bench until Kane gets injured, and when that happens, Dele can occasionally play centre forward whilst Janssen sits on the bench and Son stays on the wing?

Cool story bro.

I just stated one example of how Barkley could be utilised. But, if you take that literally as his only role, I can't help it.

For starters, Dele is banned for 3 CL games and most likely Son won't be available for the 1st month. So there is a chance for Barkley to come into the XI & perform. Poch always says players are paid to train. So, if Barkley trains well, who knows he may get a berth.

The very fact that Sissoko is on 90k (with a fee of 30m) & struggles to get to bench says that we are Ok to have a highly paid player on bench.

If your attitude is Spurs should challenge for all competition like Chelsea...then don't question why Barkley should be paid for bench role, when Fabregas & Willian are doing the same role for Chelsea.

Have to admit I watched him for the first time this season last night in the confed
He looked lime he had lost tons of pace to be fair even the commentators said he looked so much slower.

Are we already counting gkn as a failure?

Writing a guy off after just one year with the absolute lack of playing time he's had is way too quick in my book. He's always been a breath of fresh air when he has come on.

But onto Barkley. I think Barkley would be a nice complement to Eriksen, Alli and Son. While he might not walk in and outright take their spot. His presence would motivate them to keep it up in practice.

Looks like poch is the one that's already written him off given the lack of game time he's had, we've seen it before under his tenure

I tend to look at Barkley as a Poch Project....I think that when you put the two together the result could be an exceptional player. It all depends on the lad's attitude and willingness to learn. At the moment he is good and has 'potential'....under Poch we could be looking at someone very special.

I don't understand this obsession with the pacy player. Who's the speedster in the Real Madrid squad?

It's more than pace, it's the ability to open up space with fast movement and then all at feet. Madrid have plenty of this, as well as several players who can provide direct pace on the flanks.

It's football. It's not a "preoccupation" or "obsession," it's acknowledging a fundamental component to the game, as well as to side balance and complementation.

Ummm...Bale comes to mind although he's been injured a bit lately. It's just a matter of options. Currently, we don't have anyone who can really beat anyone with the ball at their feet in the open field and therefore good pressing teams will pressure the ball and anticipate passes like Liverpool did to us. We need options against clubs like that which means we need someone who is very pacy or who is a magician with the ball at his feet. Bale and Modric would both fit the bill as one as pacy while the other controls the ball like few others.

He's not been playing much lately. They use Isco now

Creativity beats pace
Players tend not to play much when they're injured ;)

Bale was out injured for nearly 4 months and then again in April. When it came to selection for the CL final, why would Bale have come straight back into an in-form side after a 6 week lay-off, when he was saying himself that he wasn't fully fit?
