How much does one need to unsettle a player who grew up a fan of United, who has stated it and who acknowledges it and who knows his wages would double/treble/quadruple? Reality is we have no intent to sell and he is not making a fuss. That said, there is always a number. I have no clue what it is. It is North of 40 and North of 50. Is it 60M GBP? 70M GBP? 100M GBP? United have no doubt, informally, spoken to his agent. Happens all the time. He knows what he will get on the wage side.

From my perspective, it is not so much how much such a player should be worth on the market. 50M seems very high to me for Dier. Barkley makes poor decisions in the defensive end. Loose passes. Unwise dribbles. He is not the only one who has done that. Ask Lloris. The real question is, how much is it worth it for us to have Dier AND to not have him playing for United. They were pretty tight defensively. Adding Dier will make them a lot more solid. There is no doubt we would have to replace him. Not sure who we could bring in who would be able to contribute in the same way that Dier does to our squad. Unlike Walker, the loss of Dier would weaken us.

I would be loathe to sell him for anything less than 70M and am not sure that is enough when it is a sale to a team that will battle us in the CL and for a CL spot. There is a number though. Just not sure what it is.

Thoughts?

He's not for sale mate

In theory, there is a number but not now. I imagine It has to be a bid higher than Pogba, a world record, to make Levy think about it.

I know Dier is integral to us changing shape during a game. But he is an average CB and a good DM, he is worth £30 tops. Take £60m all day, I'm sure we can replace him for half that. If we play with a back 4 he doesn't even start

He starts pretty much every single game for us. Why are some posters so quick to discredit the qualities of our players?

There is so much wrong with this... but I'm just gonna focus on the bold for now. Replacing Dier for half of that? So replacing Dier for 30mil? With who? Who out there is a young versatile player that Poch loves that can play DM and CB and even RB at a stretch?

He's not an average CB. He's a young centre back who makes some mistakes - as almost all young centre backs do, because so much of the position is about decisions and experience.

He can grow into that position and be Jan and Toby's heir.

Problem is it sounds like he doesn`t want to be a centre back....

Well he's been quoted several times saying he wants to be able to play multiple positions, as it makes him better. The "he wants to be holding mid" stuff just comes from the United end trying to stir up the transfer.

His future is 100% at CB IMO. He just needs to get a bit more knowledge and cut out some his dopey play defending set pieces.

Do we not have ITK from Trix that, yes, he wants to play in midfield?

What is your house worth?

I'm not saying he wants out, but he wants to play regularly in midfield. I think, from what i have heard, he would leave in order to do that.

You can't be serious. He starts every game for us and plays a part in the England team. Whom should he be replaced with?

You may well be right, I`m only basing the midfield thing on bits and pieces said on here from various people...

You'd have to suspect he will be the one sold for big money next summer if Man U don't get a DM this summer. I really hope they do get someone else in, it would be frustrating to have to lose him next summer if he's still desperate to leave.

It's his tactical intelligence which is so invaluable. There are very few players in world football who can play both DM and CB to a high level like he does. If we sold him then it would most probably mean buying 2 players to replace him with.

He's invaluable for team spirit too.

It's not just the best most skilful players that make up a successful side you also need ones with passion and grit, which Dier has in abundance.

And him and Dele :love::love:

but we have it from Dier that he wants to play multiple positions like Lahm/ Alaba
When was the last time he said that? The minute he lost his place to Wanyama, those blasted Bayern rumours were trumpeted all over the media.

The only reason we have him switching between CB and CM is because, in my honest opinion, we are short of options; not because he is so wonderfully gifted, and tactically intelligent.
