Mahrez was an unknown quantity in his first season and did well but i think he got a bit found out by defenders in his second season with his tendency to cut in mostly on his left foot. I am not sure his work ethic either would fit into a Poch run team. Don't want to spend big on him, think it will be a mistake.

To be fair on him, the entire Leicester team got found out in the season following their title win.

Mahrez, playing in a team with a lot of possession probably has another gear in him that we still haven't seen. If it's us or the Arseholes - playing in a team with a lot of the ball, Mahrez, would do the business.

He'd also be in situations where other teams couldn't key on him. He was basically the only threat LC had last season. Much easier to negate.

Very true. The more I think about this, the more I'd really like him at the club. He's a game changer and you can never have too many of them.

I really can't see anything here that suggests we are going to sign mahrez, too expensive and too unlikely to happen imo.
Our policy is to buy some promising up and coming cheap Peruvian nobody for not much more than a weeks shopping, there is nothing to see here surely.

Not so sure personally. Can't put my finger on why, just not totally convinced he'd have the stomach for the fight required in our game. We'd also be playing full price.

I'm probably wrong though!

Ultimately he's a talented player with a nice left foot and I can hardly think we'd get a better player. Feels unlikely though

Levy never pays full price

30mil on the donkey and 23mil on Son the year before. Let's not pretend we only buy dirt cheap prospects.

Mahrez though would surely be way too expensive in current market, not entirely sure why we're bothering enquiring. Even if 35m or whatever was accepted he'd want 150k a week which would kill the deal. Feels like a waste of time.

I thought he was being paid over £100k a week but according to this Guardian article it's less than that. So wages wise, it could work if he's not asking for a massive rise.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/aug/17/riyad-mahrez-leicester-city-new-contract

"it has also emerged that there is no release clause in Mahrez’s new contract, which will make him the club’s second-highest paid player, behind Vardy, who earns around £100,000 a week."

The other thing with Mahrez is that he'll get so much more space playing for us. You can't mark Eriksen, Kane, Alli and Mahrez. With Son and Lamela rotating for those four. Yes please

Agreed, he be brilliant playing off the right in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation and centrally in a 3-4-2-1.

He's also quick and skilful, not something we really have in our AMs.

Nearly a perfect signing for us IMHO

Leicester fan forum:

Roma won't be stumping up the cash, it's not their style.
Arsenal will depend on Lemar.
Chelsea looks a no-go.
Tottenham are the team to worry about snatching him.

Doubt that highly. It's very unlike Daniel Levy to stump up a massive fee like £50m. Spurs are very much like Roma. It's not their style to spend a tonne on one player.

Soldado, Lamela, Eriksson...They were interested in January. If someone offers us £40M I'd be surprised if we didn't sell. (someone thinks we spent a lot of Eriksen :D)

If Spurs are asking £60m for Eric Dier then we have every right holding them to absolute ransom for Mahrez. Still think Arsenal will come in late in the window after they get rebuffed by Monaco. Hope he stays though

Can't see him going to Spurs unless he takes a pay cut which I doubt him and his agent will agree to. Spurs have a very strict salary policy and Riyad is already above that at Leicester; that's before you even factor in any further rises that he and his agent will most likely demand in order to move.

Can you see Mahrez getting a place in front of their attacking players anyway? I can't. He said he wanted Champions League football anyway, not group stage football. :poop:

True and their wages are relatively low. He'd have to take a big pay cut and no way spurs will pay 50m

None of which cost near £50m. Our club is playing hard ball and rightly so. It's refreshing to see. Tottenham okay hardball for their players, so we should also. Their wage structure is also similar to ours if not lower. Therefore I can't really see him ending up at Spurs.

£40m-£50m plus Oxlade-Chamberlain, if Arsenal are still keen - would be a very good deal.

Rather sell him to peanuts to Roma than Spurs.

Thats us fvcked. Rudders negotiating with Levy. That's Mahrez gone and we owe spuds 30m.

Would be funnny if mahrez went to spurs for 30 mill and they win champs league. Wenger would be burned at the stake

I wouldn't find that funny at all I hate Spurs much more than Arsenal

I actually only had an issue wit spurs during the title season. Before that was just another club to me. Arsenal have always been w@nkers and always will be. I dont hate spurs i just dislike their attitude from that season thats all.

I get sick in my mouth whenever I even hear the word spurs.

Worried about news, was not sure about Roma, but he may go to tottenham

If he did you can be sure Spurs would f**k him up. They already have an absolute dearth of creativity and one guy to score goals. Riyad has proved that, in the right role, he can score his share...He wouldn't with them !

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Semi relevant. The ACN's have now officially been moved to the summer. I know they were talking about it earlier but seems they've done it now. So we wouldnt have to worry about going 2 months mid season without him.

If we can get it done for £25m or so, I think it would be a good signing. I think Poch can get him back to his best. Plus a salty Leicester is always funny.
